Abstract

ABSTRAKInstagram bukan sekedar media pertukaran pesan melalui foto atau gambar. Instagram memiliki peran penting sebagai media pengungkap identitas budaya individu dalan ruang virtual. Influencer sebagai pengguna aktif Instagram dengan banyak pengikut mengalami proses ini, karena realitas diri yang nyata terpisah dalam ruang virtual yang kemudian membentuk idenitas budaya baru. Konsep komunikasi antar budaya dan media baru digunakan sebagai perspektif dalam proses menganalisa temuan data. Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma konstruktivis dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Peneliti menggunakan metode netnografi dengan mengobservasi unggahan foto lima influencer instagram populer  Indonesia. Hasil penelitian ini terungkap realitas bahwa terdapat tiga identitas budaya virtual yang dikonstruksi oleh para influencer antara lain a) kelas sosial ekonomi, (b) agama dan (c) keluarga. Rekomendasi bagi peneliti yang tertarik tentang studi identitas budaya virtual yaitu dapat memperkaya kedalaman data dengan melakukan penelitian para influencer  di medium YouTube.   ABSTRACTInstagram not only as a medium for deliver messages through photos or pictures but also as a medium that construct cultural identity in a virtual space. Influencers as an active Instagram user with a large number of followers do this process, because of the real reality of themselves is separated in a virtual space that construct a new cultural identity. The concept of intercultural communication and new media is used as a perspective in the analysis process. This study used a constructivist paradigm with a qualitative approach. Researchers used the netnographic method by observing photo uploads of five popular Indonesian Instagram influencers. The results of this study reveal the reality that there are three virtual cultural identities of the influencers:  a) socio-economic class, (b) religion and (c) family. Other researchers can enrich this study by doing research to YouTube influencers.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Pengelolaan informasi publik yang aktif dan responsif menjadi indikator utama dalam perwujudan good governance yang terkait tata kelola komunikasi. Di era digital, media sosial menduduki posisi teratas menjadi layanan yang paling banyak diakses melalui internet sehingga dimanfaatkan oleh Perguruan Tinggi di Indonesia sebagai PR tools yang bisa dijangkau oleh berbagai stakeholder. Praktik Public Relations telah mengalami perubahan fundamental di era disrupsi sehingga peneliti tertarik untuk meneliti tentang tren pengelolaan kehumasan perguruan tinggi saat ini berupa digital storytelling dan social media listening. Tipe penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan netnografi dan memanfaatkan analytical tools yaitu Keyhole dan Social Blade. Objek penelitian difokuskan pada pengelolaan media sosial Perguruan Tinggi yang pernah mendapatkan penghargaan Anugerah Humas di kategori media sosial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa praktisi PR Perguruan Tinggi harus menyadari bahwa manusia memiliki kebutuhan untuk berkomunikasi dan terkoneksi antara satu dengan yang lain melalui cerita. Hadirnya berbagai platform di era digital membuat konten digital storytelling dapat dikemas dalam bentuk beragam seperti foto, video, audio, grafis. Sebagai kategori yang memperoleh engagement tinggi dibandingkan kategori lainnya. Perguruan Tinggi memiliki banyak potensi cerita yang dapat dibangun sekaligus dipertukarkan. Dengan kata lain, Perguruan Tinggi memiliki beragam“earning content” dari praktik Digital storytelling yang dilakukan oleh para audiensnya. Social listening yang setara dengan mendengarkan aktif secara online, memungkinkan Humas Perguruan Tinggi untuk lebih dekat dalam memahami apa yang menjadi kebutuhan dan keinginan audiens. Hasil dari Social Listening ini lebih lanjut dapat dimanfaatkan PR untuk dasar melakukan Digital storytelling dalam bermedia sosial. Berinvestasi dengan social media analytical tools bisa menjadi langkah strategis bagi Humas dalam supporting system untuk melaksanakan proses PR dan mencapai tujuan utama yaitu membangun dan memelihara reputasi.

Abstract

The arrangement of the Komodo National Park which will turn this national park into a premium tourist destination has caused controversy between the people who disagree with the arrangement and the government. The existing arrangement is feared to disturb the habitat and the original ecosystem of the Komodo dragon and will complicate conservation activities. This controversy has increasingly attracted public attention with the appearance of photos of Komodo blocking trucks that go viral on social media. The mass media in this case also reported on this. This research was conducted to prove the alignment of the news on the arrangement of the Komodo National Park on tribunnews.com and detik.com. Which is carried out using the critical discourse analysis method on news texts in both media. This study uses a qualitative approach so that it can see more deeply the meaning behind the discourse. The research proves that the media tend to choose one party in constructing an event. Tribunnews.com proved to be in favor of the government by displaying statements submitted by the government and positive things from the arrangement. On the other hand, detik.com shows siding with the people who voice their rejection and view the existing arrangement negatively.

Abstract

Transferring the status from a private university to a state university makes the Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta has more responsibility in the management and governance of communication. Therefore available social media as PR tools that can be reached by all stakeholders is significant. As an institution engaged in education, UPN Veteran Jakarta is active in using social media and has even made achievements. In PR activities of UPN Veteran Jakarta as the new state university through social media, the form of communication is carried out in the form of the use of stories or narratives combined with various elements or known as digital storytelling. Therefore, researchers are interested in researching digital storytelling through social media at UPN Veteran Jakarta as a university that is experiencing a status change. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive using the case study method. The object of research is focused on digital storytelling on the activities of all social media accounts owned by UPN Veteran Jakarta. The research data collection was carried out through (1) observation in the form of daily monitoring of the activities of all social media, (2) interviews with leaders and PR staff of UPN Veteran Jakarta. The study found that digital storytelling is a new way of building and maintaining brand reputation, spoken-content is the main key in digital storytelling, and social media makes digital storytelling more powerful and impactful.

Abstract

The Provision of Green Open Spaces (GOS) as a playground for children as well as introducing environmental awareness is a concern in various regions. GOS is a facility from the local government to fulfil children’s rights in terms of growing and developing in a healthy and safe environment, especially for Brebes, which has declared themselves to be a Child-Friendly Region. Nevertheless, currently, Brebes only has 12 GOSs, which is around 15 per cent of its total area. It hampered by the contradictions between the standard requirements for GOS development and the alteration of land functions due to urbanisation in addition to the lack of community involvement in spatial planning between 2012 and 2017. The purpose of this study is to examine the optimisation of GOS in Brebes Regency from the perspective of environmental communication towards the positioning of Brebes as a child-friendly city; this research is a qualitative descriptive study using ethnographic methods and an environmental communication approach. The qualitative data obtained through in-depth interviews, observations and the documentation of eight informants. The findings show that GOS Brebes currently functions as a media for child development. There are some obstacles in terms of optimising the spaces in Brebes because there are some behaviours that are not child-friendly and/or environmentally friendly. Furthermore, the GOS conditions in Brebes generally fulfil the principles of Child-Friendly Spaces (CFS) as the indicators of the optimal performance of GOS. In addition, communication, resources, disposition and bureaucratic structure are important factors in terms of optimising child-friendly GOS in Brebes. Finally, cooperation between the government and the community members to create an ideal child-friendly GOS should be supported by clear regulations and policies, as well as communicated through the media appropriately and sustainably.

Abstract

The relationship between social media and individuals is complex. Like how humans flock to form an 'instagramable' culture on Instagram. The author examines this complexity using the lens of Jean Baudrillard in writings on simulation and simulacra. Baudrillard's main argument is that nothing in our culture is "real" in any sense. "Simulacrum", consider as something that is real, which is a depiction or copy of something that does not exist. Instagram is a social media that makes humans addicted to signs and symbols through "instagramable" photos and videos. This research provides knowledge about the potential reality of reality from polished photos or videos uploaded to Instagram. This study uses qualitative research with a phenomenological approach and uses dramaturgy theory (front and backstage) to reveal the reality and falsehood of "instagramable" images. This study analyzes using four stages, namely reflection of the deep reality, covering and denaturing the deep reality, covering the absence of deep reality, having nothing to do with any reality; it is its pure simulacrum. The result of this research is that simulacra are more than a process. Each stage carried out by Instagram users characterizes a level of simulation. Research gives insight to us that "instagramable" simulations are imaginations that are not entirely true or not true

Abstract

Cloud-computing technology present as an impact of the changing cultural environment and competitive ecosystem of Higher Education in the world, including Indonesia. Cloud computing is actually a combination use of computer technology ("computing") and the development of Internet-based ('cloud'). Higher education is considered ideal for the diffusion of innovation because they have a core that can encourage innovation and there are frequently changes in faculty or department’s level, pedagogical and technological. This study pointed out a uniqueness where lecturers (digital immigrant) and students (digital native) could collaborate in realtime by adopting cloud-computing technology, namely Google's Google Apps for Education (GAFE), in the learning system. Diffusion-innovation theory of Rogers will be in depth elaborated to explain the process of adoption of new kind of communication technologies which is currently becoming trendsetter. This type of study is qualitative descriptive with grounded theory method involving several universities in Central Java that are already using GAFE technology during the last three years, i.e. UNNES, UDINUS, and UNISSULA. This study used purposive sampling with total sample of 12 people who are lecturers and students, GAFE active users in learning system. The results showed lecturers especially junior lecturers have a central role as a facilitator of learning technologies in deciding what to use. Common interest is the main reason behind. Though lecturers and students came from different generation but both of them adopted GAFE Keywords : Difussion Innovation, Cloud Computing Technology, GAFE, Digital Immigrant, Digital Native ABSTRAK Teknologi komputasi awan atau sering dikenal dengan cloud computing hadir sebagai sebuah dampak perubahan lingkungan budaya dan ekosistem yang kompetitif pada Pendidikan Tinggi di dunia, termasuk Indonesia. Cloud computing ini sejatinya merupakan gabungan pemanfaatan teknologi komputer (‘komputasi’) dan pengembangan berbasis Internet (‘awan’). Pendidikan tinggi dianggap sangat ideal untuk difusi inovasi karena mereka memiliki jantung yang bisa mendorong inovasi dan selalu ada perubahan baik di level fakultas atau jurusan, pedagogis serta teknologi. Studi ini akan mengangkat keunikan dimana dosen (digital immigrant) dan mahasiswa (digital native) dapat berkolaborasi secara realtime dengan mengadopsi teknologi cloud computing milik Google yaitu Google Apps for Education (GAFE) dalam sistem pembelajaran. Teori difusi inovasi milik Rogers akan dielaborasi secara mendalam untuk menjelaskan proses adopsi teknologi komunikasi jenis baru yang sekarang tengah menjadi trendsetter ini. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode grounded yang melibatkan beberapa Perguruan Tinggi di Jawa Tengah yang sudah menggunakan teknologi GAFE selama tiga tahun terakhir, yaitu UNNES, UDINUS, dan UNISSULA. Pada penelitian ini menggunakan teknik purposive sampling dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 12 orang yang merupakan dosen dan mahasiswa pengguna aktif GAFE dalam sistem pembelajaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan dosen terutama dosen junior memiliki peranan sentra sebagai fasilitator dalam memutuskan teknologi pembelajaran apa yang akan digunakan. Kesamaan kepentinganlah yang menjadi faktor utama mengapa walaupun berbeda generasi, namun dosen dan mahasiswa bisa mengadopsi GAFE. Abstract

The emergence of the internet and social media has changed the ease of interaction and the position of humans where they are no longer just as consumers, but as well as producers and distributors of messages. Whatsapp as the top three social media platforms that are widely used in Indonesia is one of the most common social media circulating information on hoaxes and hate speeches. With the massive information circulating on social media, digital literacy in new media has a very significant role. Lecturers as professional and well-educated people should be able to understand, analyze, assess, and criticize every information carried by social media. But lately there have been various cases of misuse of social media involving lecturers to the realm of law. This will be a threat because lecturers are professions that are used as role models and key opinion leaders in the society. Therefore, researchers are interested in understanding the experience of digital literacy of lecturers as Whatsapp group users in disseminating of information on hoaxes and hate speech. Jenkins's theory of new media literacy is used in this qualitative research with an interpretive constructivism paradigm. The research method uses Edmund Husserl's classical phenomenology which emphasizes the essence of the subject (human consciousness) and its activities. The results show that Whatsapp Group is used as a form of communication and information exchange. Sharing is caring has a strong influence on lecturers to spread all the information that is on Whatsapp Group. The main reason for disseminating information related to perceptions of interests and usefulness of the information, so that sometimes the lecturers unwittingly spread hoaxes and hate speech.

Abstract

According to Law No. 3 of 2002 on National Defense, the defense of the State is the responsibility of all citizens of Indonesia, including community organizations. Forum Bela Negara (FBN) DKI Jakarta, a community organization formed with the specific purpose of overseeing efforts to strengthen the values of the country's defense in society, has long been taking part in implementing the law. FBN, especially in the DKI Jakarta province, has organized many activities such as regular, comprehensive, and integrative socialization of fostering awareness of defending the country to the cadres and the public, as well as supporting and carrying out government programs for the creation of the National Defense Cadre. This is in line with the Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 7 of 2018 concerning the 2018-2019 National Action Plan of Nation Defense, which states that the internalization of the basic values of state defense to the general public is one of the intended action plans. The problems faced by FBN DKI Jakarta include the measurability of the results of activities and the ineffectiveness of the approach (model) of activities that have been held. The voluntary nature of membership in mass organizations (Law No.17 of 2013 article 1 paragraph 1) has caused FBN to have many limitations including in Event Management. The purpose of this community service program was to strengthen the FBN's institutions by increasing the soft skills and hard skills of the DKI Jakarta FBN Management on Event Management, which included, among others, the approach of implementing activities, making creative proposals, and raising funds. The method used in this program was as follows. First, a need assessment was conducted; next, a mini-workshop on Event Management was held, and finally, a Coaching Clinic or supervision to the idea of DKI Jakarta FBN activities was provided. Institutional strengthening was chosen because FBN as a mass organization has a strategic function in carrying out social change, such as supporting efforts to instill nationalism spirit and awareness of the defense of the people's state. The output of this activity was, among others, increasing knowledge and skills of the DKI Jakarta FBN Management related to Event Management, as evidenced by the draft proposal they had prepared. The core of this activity was to identify an adaptive, contemporary approach ranging from planning, implementation, and an evaluation in the activities carried out by the State Defense Forum.

Abstract

Meningkatnya jumlah penggunaan kemasan plastik tiap tahun dan diterapkannya program penghijauan oleh pemerintah Indonesia mendasari UPNVJ mencanangkan program “Go Green, No Plastic”. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara pesan kampanye “Go Green, No Plastic” yang diterapkan oleh Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta dengan sikap mahasiswa UPNVJ untuk tidak menggunakan kemasan plastik di lingkungan kampus, menggunakan Theory of Elaboration Likelihood. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner dari 99 responden, yang diseleksi dari 10.011 mahasiswa UPNVJ, dengan menggunakan teknik probability sampling dan proportional stratified sampling. Hipotesis hubungan diuji dengan menggunakan uji korelasi, koefisien determinasi dan uji regresi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh pesan kampanye“Go Green, No Plastic” UPN Veteran Jakarta terhadap sikap mahasiswa dalam menggunakan kemasan plastik di lingkungan kampus.
