Abstract

Abstract

Quranic perspectives on gender-oriented ecology propose eco humanist theocentric theory. This is based on the Quranic description regarding the interconnection and harmonious interaction between a human and him/her self, a human with another human, a human with the universe, and a human with God, regardless male or female. This study employs tafsir maudu’i (thematic), historical-critical-contextual methods, and qualitative approach. The result shows three representations of gender identity, namely biology paired features, various terms referring to men and women interactions, and the balance of femininity and masculinity within every human being. It indicates the possible equal quality of intellectual, emotion and roles in their social life. In addition, the Quran illustrates that both masculine and feminine characteristics have positive and negative sides. This, in fact, has been a debatable notion in the academic world related to men and women stereotyping, which has influenced their social role divisions. While in natural ecology, gender identity is found in three representations, namely biology paired features, pairing in terms of feminine and masculine characteristics/qualities, and pronouns/damir referring to the male and female.

Abstract

Naturalist intelligence carried by Holy Quran and Injil synergizes human spiritual dimention for the God as the center. With the faith to the God and His teaching the human hope to be able to reconstruct the anthropocentric paradigm and finally it can influence the interaction pattern in harmony with the environment (Max Weber, 197). Naturalist intelligence can be understood in the meaning, the people ability in understanding and loving the environment by taking care its sustainability as the responsibility and worship for the God (read Allah SWT in Holy Quran), as the individual creatures, social, and spiritual (Febriani, 2013).

Abstract

Environmental damage is increasingly a problem of the world. Environmental organizations in the world such as Green Peace, WWF and IPCC in 2014 showed that the damage on the earth, the sea and the air has reached a very worrisome stage. Scientists with a variety of expertise have been trying to offer solutions on this problem, including religious studies scholars who have also tried to build a paradigm based on the scripture. In a profoundly Sufi scientific tradition, the idea of eco-sufism in reconstructing the anthropocentric paradigm is interesting because it touches the deepest dimensions of humanity to build consciousness in the conservative action for the sake of the God. The writer also tries to unite gender relations with eco-sufism, as an effort to build an integral and holistic paradigm of society. This is because, without an integrated and holistic paradigm for all the people in the world, environmental conservation efforts will be only limited to small groups of humans among 2 (two) billion citizens of the world.

Abstract

Gender issues are still considered important issues in the last decade. Issues that arise are issues around gender inequality such as women's inheritance rights, witnesses, guardianship, leadership, social constructs, and so on. Men and women basically have the same pattern of gender relations, namely experiencing dehumanization. Gender injustice in women is considered as the cause of dehumanization, while in men dehumanization is due to their tendency to perpetuate gender oppression. The relationship pattern between the two will never be harmonious and find common ground if the relationship pattern between the two still justifies each other about patriarchal culture. This research is included in the category of literature research, with a qualitative approach. The primary source of the Qur'an will be explained based on the books of tafsir that are referenced in this study. Then it is analyzed descriptively to get a precise picture of the pattern of gender relations in the Qur'an. This article concludes that social transformation in gender relations according to the perspective of the Qur'an consists of four main elements. First, there is a transformation in personal activity, including dress etiquette, food opportunities, a shift from negative stereotypes to respect, and a shift from seductive stereotypes to noble personalities. Second, transformation is taking place in domestic activities, especially in terms of changes in inheritance rights for women. Third, there is a transformation in concern for the environment. Fourth, there are transformations in public activities, such as a shift from patriarchal culture to bilateral culture, recognition of the right to allegiance for women, the right to education, the right to witness, democratic respect for women's opinions, opportunities to achieve achievements in the public sphere, the role of women in medical personnel, and religious tolerance. This article concludes that the Qur'anic perspective provides the foundation for positive social transformation in gender relations.

Abstract

The concept of Eco-Sufism, as an environmental ethic, believes that nature is the tajalliyāt and image of asmā and the attributes of God, all of which have theological and humanist sensibilities. The Qur’ān confirms this view, stating that all nature surrenders (aslama), submits to God’s laws (qāniṭūn), purifies (sabbaḥa), prostrates (yasjudu) and prays (ṣalāt). This library research focuses on analysing Tafsir Al-Mishbah by Muhammad Quraish Shihab as a primary source. The content analysis approach is used to uncover the mufassir’s views on Eco-Sufism in his tafsir. In contrast, the mauḍūʿi (thematic) method is applied to explore the concept of Eco-Sufism in the Qur’ān. The results showed that the religiosity of the universe expressed through paradigmatic dialectics and Eco-Sufism terms can be understood as a form of the universe’s submission to the system established by Allah the Almighty. The universe’s harmony, aptitude and discernment are clues to the Power and Oneness of the Creator. However, various natural activities such as tasbīḥ, sujūd, and ṣalāt are variously interpreted as majāzi or ḥaqīqī. However, the servitude of nature expressed through the activity of the universe is proof that nature also has a soul and spiritual dimension, just like humans.Contribution: This paper theoretically provides a holistic view of Sufism in building an ideal relationship among humans, God and the environment, which is expected to produce pragmatic results for the rescue and protection of nature and the environment.

Abstract

Abstract

Stephen Hawking, a realist who adheres to positivism, asserts that the universe was created without God. This perspective considers nature to be only matter, an entity without a soul. On the other hand, one of the factors causing environmental damage is the anthropocentric paradigm that considers humans as the most important element in the universe. Ironically, this paradigm uses the holy book of the heavenly religions to legitimize its thinking, as found in Genesis 1:28 and the Qur'an in Surah al-Baqarah [2]: 29. In the interpretation of the Qur'an, to find a concept is not enough with just one verse, a series of steps need to be taken in order to produce a comprehensive interpretation. For this reason, the Maudu'i interpretation method is used to explore the concept of the Qur'an about the creation of the universe and its maintenance and how humans function in the universe. The authors found that: 1. With the Rububiyah dimension, Allah SWT is the Creator, Owner, Manager and Maintainer of nature. Humans are the khalifatullah/representatives of Allah SWT on earth who are allowed to use natural resources while maintaining their sustainability. 2. Ecotheology in the Qur'an can be understood in the sense: "The science that studies the interaction between creatures in their ecosystem based on the verses of takwn (universe/ecology) and tadwn (Qur'anic texts as the basis of theology)." Ecotheology is related to efforts to preserve the environment through balancing human rights and obligations towards nature and respect for the human rights of nature. This is because in the Qur'an, both humans and nature have their respective roles and purposes of creation as fellow creations of God. Humans as khalifah fi al-‘ard}/prosperers of the earth and nature are partners of humans in carrying out this mandate. Nature is the same as humans as fellow creations of God (ukhuwah makhluqiyyah) who also have the right to worship, develop and live in groups in their communities

Abstract

This study examines Husein Muhammad's epistemology of interpretation in the context of women's empowerment, specifically through the Women's Ulama Training Program (PUP) by the NGO Rahima. Husein Muhammad's epistemology interpretation includes explanations about women's position in the Qur'an, the importance of knowledge for women, and women's leadership. His sources of interpretation encompass the Qur'an, Hadith, and the opinions of scholars, with validity tested using coherence and correspondence theories. Rahima has developed an epistemological model that uses a rational and critical approach to interpreting the Qur'an, focusing on inclusivity and justice. This research employs qualitative and descriptive-analytical methods with the maudhu’i method. Primary data sources include the book "Epistemology of Contemporary Interpretation" by Abdul Mustaqim, "Women Ulama in the Historical Spotlight" by Husein Muhammad, educational modules by Hilmi Ali Yafie, and Rahima's website. The study results indicate that PUP is an academic program that promotes a deep understanding of religion, gender equality, and knowledge of women's rights. The program aims to form competent female ulama who can contribute positively to society.
