Abstract

Background: Nurses are one of the first-line fighters who treat Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients. They are prone to stress, anxiety, and sleep disturbances that can interfere with nurses providing medical services. Although some clinical research has established sleep quality and quality of life, the comparisons of sleep quality, quality of life, and each domain of quality of life for nurses who work in isolation and non-isolation wards is not well knownObjective: This study examines the correlation between sleep quality and quality of life amongst Dr. Kariadi General Hospital nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This quantitative study uses a cross-sectional approach. 51 nurses who worked in the Rajawali rooms in the isolation and non-isolation wards for COVID-19 at Dr. Kariadi Semarang were included by the consecutive sampling method. The instrument used are the sociodemographic questionnaire, The PSQI, and The WHOQOL-BREF Indonesian versions. Bivariate analysis was analyzed using the Spearman testResults: There was a correlation between sleep quality and the quality of life of nurses (p=0.020,r= -0.325). There was a difference between the sleep quality of nurses who work in isolation and non-isolation wards (p=0.03). There was no difference between the quality of life of nurses who work in isolation and non-isolation wards (p = 0.698).Conclusion: There is significant correlation between nurses’ sleep quality and their quality of life. There’s bad quality of life for nurses who worked inward isolation so further examination and periodic screening are needed to optimize their care.

Abstract

Introduction: Nowadays, mental health literacy through internet videos, such as YouTube®, plays an important role for individuals experiencing depression. However, the majority of YouTube® videos related to depression are generally in English. This study aims to provide an overview of Indonesian-language YouTube® videos related to depression. Methods: The keyword “depression” is entered into the YouTube® search engine, and based on the highest number of views, the top 100 videos are selected for analysis regarding the characteristics of the videos and various information related to depression. This includes causes of depression, symptoms of depression, prevention/therapy of depression, recovery from depression, and sources of information about depression. Each characteristic will be compared based on the number of views, likes or dislikes, and number of comments. Results: Only 10% of Indonesian-language videos with the keyword “depression” are uploaded by professional channels, and 6.57% of the videos are sourced from professionals. Most videos do not provide information about prevention or therapy (57%) and the recovery from depression (78%). The majority of the videos mention that depression is caused by life stress (49%) with symptoms of suicidal thoughts (39%) and sadness (25%). However, only 16% of the videos state that depression can be treated or prevented with professional consultation. Conclusion: Depression literacy through Indonesian-language YouTube® videos is still lacking. There is a need for YouTube® videos that provide information about depression, come from professional sources, and include encouragement to seek professional help.

Abstract

Introduction: Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder characterized by reality distortion and psychomotor disorganization, with agitation as a common symptom that increases the risk of rehospitalization. Systemic inflammation, measured by biomarkers such as the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), has been identified as being associated with the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. This study aims to investigate the relationship between agitation and inflammation, as indicated by elevated NLR, MLR, PLR, and SII values, in schizophrenia patients. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted involving 314 schizophrenia patients hospitalized at Dr. Amino Gondohutomo Mental Hospital, Semarang, from December 2023 to July 2024. Data was collected from medical records, including NLR, MLR, PLR, and SII values calculated from routine hematological exams, and the degree of agitation measured with the PANSS-EC scale. Results: The majority of patients (65.3%) were aged 18-37 years, with a mean age of 34.07 years. Most patients were male (52.5%) and exhibited moderate agitation (66.6%). Regression analysis showed that NLR, MLR, and SII values were significantly positively correlated with agitation levels. NLR had a regression coefficient of 0.122 (p=0.001), MLR of 0.293 (p=0.046), and SII of 0.000 (p=0.035), indicating that increases in these inflammatory biomarkers correlated with higher agitation levels in schizophrenia patients. Discuss: Hematological biomarkers such as Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR), Monocyte-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (MLR), and Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index (SII) hold significant potential in psychiatric emergency settings as simple, cost-effective, and accessible tools for early identification and risk stratification of acute agitation in schizophrenia and other severe mental disorders. Conclusion: This study found that elevated NLR, MLR, and SII values were closely associated with increased agitation levels in schizophrenia patients, supporting the hypothesis that systemic inflammation plays a role in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. These findings suggest the potential for using inflammatory biomarkers as predictive tools for assessing agitation severity in schizophrenia patients, which could aid in clinical management and rehospitalization prevention.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Rehabilitation for people with mental disorders (PMD) plays an important role in helping the healing process. Given the limited number of mental institutions, Islamic boarding schools participate in assisting in the handling of PMD. This study aims to: (i) Identify the religious activities conducted by Islamic boarding schools in the rehabilitation of PMD, (ii) Identify the benefits of spiritual therapy and religious activities in assisting the recovery of PMD. This is a mixed-method research conducted in three boarding schools that provide rehabilitation of the PMD in Yogyakarta, namely Nurul Haromain, Al Islamy and Tetirah Dzikir in February-March 2017. Data from 84 randomly selected respondents with mental disorders were collected using Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES) and PSP (Personal and Social Performance) questionnaires to see the relationship between the spiritual level with changes in personal and social functions in PMD and analyzed using spearman rank correlation test. Qualitative data is conducted by Focus Group Discussion. Results show that there was a relationship between the spiritual level and changes in the personal and social functions of the PMD (p = 0.008; r = 0.286). In addition, most of the religious activities obtained by PMD were praying, reciting the Quran and dhikr. The perceived benefits of religious activities for the PMD were feeling healed from mental illness and the heart becomes more calm. Spiritual therapy in the form of religious activities has an important role for PMD in assisting healing and providing hopes. Activities and living in Islamic boarding schools may enhance PMD’s confidence and social function.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Self-efficacy and resilience have been associated with loneliness in schizophrenia. Studies reported that people with schizophrenia have low self-efficacy, resilience, and experience a greater level of loneliness, which could lead to worsening symptoms. However, inpatient and outpatients’ differences in these variables have rarely been investigated. This study aimed to compare self-efficacy, resilience, and loneliness among people with schizophrenia from outpatients and inpatients. A total of 130 patients diagnosed with schizophrenia were included in this study. The data were collected using the socio-demographic questionnaire, the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale 10 (CD-RISC 10), and the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Loneliness Scale Version 3. The Chi-Square, Mann-Whitney, and the t-test were used for data analysis. The results indicated that inpatient has higher self-efficacy and resilience than outpatients. Interestingly, inpatient significantly has lower loneliness than outpatients. The findings support the evidence of psychological differences in schizophrenia and provide a better understanding of different settings with this diagnosis. In the clinical practice, these results suggest developing interventions to enhance resilience and self-efficacy in schizophrenia. Keywords: Loneliness, Resilience, Self-Efficacy, Schizophrenia
