Abstract

Weather forecasts are important information for various agencies and the wider community. Weather forecasts are usually used to benefit various sectors such as transportation, tourism, plantations and others. This study aims to create a new model regarding weather forecasting using the random forest and C4.5 algorithms using the WEKA application. The dataset uses data from the Panjang Maritime Meteorological Station with 365 days of data and six attributes: rain intensity, average temperature, humidity, rainfall, sunshine duration and average wind speed. The results obtained from this study between the random forest algorithm and C4.5, namely cross-validation trials fold 5, 10 and 15 random forests, have better results than C4.5 by using the MAE and RMSE evaluation values, then in testing with a percentage split 25% on the evaluation of the MAE value is better at C4.5. Still, the random forest has better results for all experiments evaluating the RMSE value and two evaluations of the MAE value.

Abstract

Kota Baru is the satellite city of Bandar Lampung. The city is prepared for the expansion of the city of Bandar Lampung. Zonation map of earthquake risk is required for Kota Baru due to its location within the reach of earthquake energy of Semangko subduction fault. In this study, we model the earthquake-prone zone map based on the soil characteristics (site effect) combined with the underground layer model to get a detailed description of the horizontal and vertical soil character. The microtremor method is performed to obtain the zonation effect mapping. Whereas, the ground layer modeling is obtained using the geoelectrical method. The modeling results show that the study area is far from tectonic activity based on the history of past earthquake events. However, this area has a large sediment thickness and has a low dominant frequency value, so it is an area that is vulnerable to earthquakes.

Abstract

Ultra dense network (UDN) and reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) are two latest technologies in encountering the increasing demands for network capacity and quality of service in wireless cellular networks. UDN is created by densely deploying femtocells in macrocells area. It causes complex interferences because distances among femtocells are likely very close. RIS provides solution in regulating the reflection of the signal emitted from the transmitter to the receiver to resolve the obstacles. However, RIS reflects the interference signals as well causing more complex interference problems. This paper proposes a solution using clustering method as interference management in RIS-aided UDN network. By clustering method, nearby femtocells are grouped and allocated different frequency channels among femtocells in a cluster. The performance of two systems–the baseline system and the one employing a clustering method–is evaluated based on signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR), throughput, and bit error rate (BER). Simulation results indicate that SINR and throughput improved by 1.57% and 1.73%, respectively. Meanwhile, the BER for the baseline system is 5.78×10-8 and decreased when applying the proposed method system with a value of 2.26×10-8. The proposed clustering method is promising to confront the interference problems.

Abstract

The semiconductor industry is a strategic sector that plays a crucial role in supporting digital transformation and national technological independence. To build a competitive semiconductor ecosystem, it is essential to develop human resources (HR) with a strong understanding of semiconductor concepts and applications. This study aims to analyze the level of understanding among electrical engineering students regarding semiconductor materials as a foundation for strengthening HR capacity in this field. A qualitative approach was applied through a survey involving 35 students of the Electrical Engineering Department, University of Lampung, specializing in Electronics and Control. The survey instrument consisted of a questionnaire with three answer categories: “do not know,” “know but cannot explain,” and “know and can explain,” covering four main themes—semiconductor physics, semiconductor technology, IC design, and semiconductor applications. The results revealed that most students only mastered basic concepts, while understanding of more advanced materials remained limited. These findings indicate the need to improve learning effectiveness through more interactive and contextual methods, along with the enrichment of materials relevant to industry needs. The results of this study are expected to provide valuable insights for strengthening semiconductor education in higher institutions to support the growth of Indonesia’s semiconductor industry.
