Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to increase the knowledge and ability of Koperasi Melati Jaya's waste management. Waste management capabilities can reduce the volume of waste to the landfill. Method: The program began the dissemination of commitment to waste management to contribute to SDGs achievement, assistance in manufacturing verticulture, hydroponics, eco-bricks, garden architects, and utilizing waste. Evaluation was carried out to improve the waste management program. Results: Through this program, more than 70% of the cooperative's members manage waste using the 7R principle. Knowledge, attitudes, and abilities in recycling waste into hydroponics, verticulture, and eco-bricks have increased. The conversion of waste into valuable products indirectly contributes to reducing the volume of waste from TPA Bakung. The income of cooperative members and the fact that fresh vegetables in the city of Bandar Lampung have increased. Conclusions: The consistency program can bring Sukamenanti Baru close to zero waste so that it becomes a livable village. Indirectly, it supports the achievement of SDGs in Bandar Lampung City. Abstract

The performance of the solar collector can be reviewed based on several parameters, namely thermal and large fluid drop (pressure drop). This study aims to compare the thermal and pressure drop performance of plate-type solar collectors based on a spiral-shaped pipe arrangement using the distance between the pipes. The comparison of performance analyzed in each study for the distance between the pipes is 25 mm and 50 mm. The approach or stage of research on the performance of the data plate type solar collector is through CFD simulation testing. The simulation stages that will be carried out include: making the geometric design of the solar collector and selecting the mesh method used by the polyhedral type. The results of the solar collector test carried out by CFD simulation show that the use of a 50 mm absorber pipe arrangement has a higher thermal efficiency when compared to the 75 mm absorber pipe arrangement and also a 49.45% increase in pressure drop.

Abstract

Salah satu upaya untuk mengurangi biaya penyediaan energi panas adalah menggunakan energi matahari. Namun, energi matahari sangat bergantung pada cuaca yang sulit dikontrol oleh manusia. Oven menjadi solusi utama dalam industri yang beroperasi secara kontinu.Salah satu perkembangan teknologi oven adalah sistem rotary dryer yang memiliki pengeringan lebih merata. Namun, sistem tersebut masih mengkonsumsi energi panas yang besar. Konsumsi energi yang besar dapat direduksi dengan mengurangi tekanan ruang pengering hingga lebih kecil dari tekanan atmosfer (tekanan vakum) yang berakibat pada penurunan titik didih air. Dengan demikian, kandungan air dalam produk dapat menguap pada temperatur yang lebih rendah. Densitas udara pada kondisi vakum lebih kecil dibanding kondisi atmosfer. Menurunnya densitas udara menyebabkan jumlah energi panas yang dibutuhkan untuk menaikkan temperatur udara lebih sedikit. Investigasi awal karakteristik laju perpindahan panas transien pada rotary dryer bersirip dilakukan dengan studi numerik. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan waktu yang dibutuhkan sebesar 30.33 detik untuk menaikkan temperatur produk dari temperatur lingkungan hingga mendekati temperatur dinding ruang pengering pada tekanan 10 KPa, dan 47,67 detik pada tekanan 50 KPa, selanjutnya 81 detik pada tekanan 1 atmosfer. Dengan demikian, ruang vakum berputar dapat mempercepat waktu pemanasan dan layak dilanjutkan dengan studi eksperimental. One of the efforts to reduce the cost of providing heat energy is to use solar energy. However, solar energy is highly dependent on the weather, which is difficult for humans to control. Ovens are the leading solution in industries that operate continuously. One of the developments in oven technology is the rotary dryer system which has more even drying. However, the system still consumes a large amount of heat energy. Large energy consumption can be reduced by reducing the drying chamber pressure to less than atmospheric pressure (vacuum pressure), resulting in a decrease in the boiling point of water. Thus, the water content in the product can evaporate at lower temperatures. The density of air under vacuum conditions is smaller than atmospheric conditions. The decrease in air density causes the amount of heat energy needed to raise the air temperature less. Numerical studies carried out initial investigations of the transient heat transfer rate characteristics in fin rotary dryers. The results obtained show that the time needed is 30.33 seconds to raise the product temperature from ambient temperature to close to the drying room wall temperature at a pressure of 10 KPa, 47.67 seconds at a pressure of 50 KPa, and 81 seconds at a pressure of 1 atmosphere. Thus, a rotating vacuum chamber can speed up drying time and is worth continuing with experimental studies.

Abstract

Membuat video dengan konten edukasi peternakan menjadi salah satu cara yang paling efektif untuk promosi produk. Tim Pengabdian Universitas Lampung melakukan pendampingan kepada CV Raman Farm Sejahtera Lampung Tengah dalam pengembangan digital marketing sebagai sarana edukasi dan promosi. Salah satu subyeknya adalah owner perusahaan yang dapat menjadi role model bagi pemuda seusianya dan generasi di bawahnya bahwa bisnis peternakan sangat prospektif dan menguntungkan. Pengembangan digital marketing dilakukan melalui kana Youtube, Instagram, Tik Tok, dan website. Dampak dari sosial media yang sudah dibuat kemudian diukur menggunakan survey kepada responden dengan karakteristik usia dan perkerjaan yang berbeda secara acak. Hasil survey menunjukkan bahwa sarana digital marketing yang sudah dibuat sangat memotivasi responden untuk mencoba bisnis peternakan.

Abstract

The use of biochar as an organic fertilizer has gained significant attention in the agricultural field. Biochar application can enhance soil fertility and promote agricultural sustainability. Converting agricultural waste into biochar can reduce dependency on chemical fertilizers. Incorporating biochar into the soil improves water retention and nutrient availability. This study aims to evaluate the effect of biomass types (bromelain and bamboo) during the carbonization process on burner efficiency in biochar production.The study utilized bromelain biomass, bamboo biomass, and a mixture of the two at a 50% bromelain and 50% bamboo ratio. The raw materials were carbonized using a rotary drum reactor. The reactor operated with heat supplied by a High-Speed Diesel (HSD)-fueled burner. The carbonizer reached a maximum temperature of 600°C. In addition to biochar, the carbonization process also produced syngas, which was subsequently used to substitute HSD as a fuel source.The results indicated that the type of biomass significantly influenced burner efficiency during the carbonization process. Biochar derived from bamboo tended to have a higher cellulose content, whereas biochar from bromelain exhibited greater thermal decomposition stability. This study provides new insights into the potential of utilizing bromelain and bamboo biochar as sustainable strategies for agricultural soil management.The research demonstrated that biomass type selection during carbonization had a substantial impact on burner efficiency, which ranged from 81.15% to 84.45%. The HSD consumption of the burner was recorded at 35.03 kJ/hour. The use of biochar as an organic fertilizer offers an environmentally friendly and sustainable solution. Converting agricultural waste into biochar can serve as a strategic agenda for agricultural waste management.

Abstract

Pelatihan Penyusunan Tugas Akhir bagi Mahasiswa Penerima Beasiswa di Bandar Lampung bertujuan untuk memberikan guideline dan motivasi kepada mahasiswa penerima beasiswa dalam menyelesaikan tugas akhir mereka tepat waktu. Banyak mahasiswa menghadapi berbagai tantangan dalam proses penulisan tugas akhir, termasuk pemilihan topik, manajemen waktu, teknik penelitian, analisis data, dan penyusunan laporan. Pelatihan ini diadakan sebagai bentuk pengabdian kepada masyarakat untuk membantu mahasiswa mengatasi kendala tersebut dan mencapai hasil akademik yang optimal. Pelatihan ini meluputi pertama motivasi lulus tepat waktu, pendahuluan dan pemahaman tentang tugas akhir, termasuk pemilihan topik yang relevan dan penyusunan proposal. Selanjutnya mendiskusikan teknik penelitian dan pengumpulan data, serta manajemen waktu yang efektif. Selain itu, peserta juga diekmbangkan kemampuannya dalam memanfaatkaan Artificial Intelligent dan optimalisasi software dalam pengolahan data. Peserta juga diajak mengelabolari teknik analisis data dan penulisan tugas akhir yang baik dan benar. Terakhir peserta mensimulasikan penyusunan presentasi tugas akhir. Metodologi pelatihan meliputi ceramah, diskusi, workshop, studi kasus, dan sesi konsultasi individu. Peserta diberi kesempatan untuk mempraktikkan teori yang telah dipelajari melalui simulasi dan praktek langsung, serta berkonsultasi dengan narasumber mengenai permasalahan spesifik yang mereka hadapi. Pelatihan ini melibatkan para beberapa narasumber yang memberikan pengetahuan dan pengalaman mereka kepada peserta. Hasil dari Pengabdian ini menunjukkan bahwa peserta memiliki pemahaman yang lebih baik tentang proses penulisan tugas akhir. Selain itu ketrampiran peserta dalam mengoptimalkan alat-alat bantu penyusunan skripsi meningkat hingga 52%, hanya tinggal 1 mahasiswa yang masih melakukan sitasi manual dansebanyak 70% peserta telah melaksanakan seminar hasil. Pendingan ini bias diperluas dengan pendampingan paska kampus, agar para penerima beasiswa semakin berdampak kepada kemajuan bangsa.

Abstract

Sosialisasi peminatan kegiatan akademik mahasiswa merupakan salah satu upaya penting dalam memberikan pemahaman dan bimbingan kepada mahasiswa untuk menentukan jalur dan fokus akademik yang sesuai dengan minat dan kemampuan mahasiswa. Kegiatan ini sangat relevan, terutama bagi mahasiswa baru, yang masih dalam proses penyesuaian dan eksplorasi terhadap berbagai bidang yang ada di program studi. Tujuan dari pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk memberikan informasi yang jelas dan komprehensif mengenai peminatan kegiatan akademik di Jurusan Teknik Mesin Universitas Lampung. Sosialisasi ini dilakukan melalui berbagai metode, seperti seminar, diskusi kelompok, dan pembagian materi yang menjelaskan peminatan di bidang-bidang teknik mesin, prospek karier, serta pentingnya pemilihan peminatan yang tepat bagi pengembangan akademik dan profesional mahasiswa. Hasil yang didapatkan dari kegiatan ini adalah meningkatnya pemahaman mahasiswa tentang pentingnya peminatan yang sesuai dengan minat dan kemampuan mahasiswa, serta mempercepat proses adaptasi mahasiswa dalam menjalani perkuliahan. Sosialisasi ini diharapkan dapat memberikan dampak positif dalam meningkatkan kualitas akademik mahasiswa.

Abstract

The lack of knowledge regarding organic waste management poses a significant challenge in various regions, including Pekon Panutan and Pagelaran District. Improper waste management can lead to negative impacts such as environmental pollution and health issues. One viable solution is to utilize organic waste as a valuable product through maggot cultivation. Maggots are the larvae of the Black Soldier Fly (BSF), which can decompose organic waste into high-quality compost (kasgot) used as animal feed. BUMDes Arthomoro in Pekon Panutan has the potential to enhance the economic value of waste through maggot utilization, which is supported by abundant organic waste, sufficient human resources, and community support. This community service aims to raise awareness and encourage community participation in maggot utilization. The results indicate increased residents' understanding of managing organic waste and active participation in the maggot cultivation program. The methods used include socialization and practical maggot farming training. The program received positive feedback and appreciation from community members, successfully improving participants' understanding of maggot farming as a solution for organic waste management and an opportunity to enhance economic income. This success was vital to good initial coordination, participant enthusiasm, and support from the Pekon Head and relevant stakeholders.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this community service program in Desa Pesawaran Indah is to enhance public understanding and participation in sustainable waste management by introducing the 7R principles: Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Repurpose, Reuse, Recycle, and Rot. Methodology: The program utilized a structured socialization approach, which included developing educational materials and conducting interactive discussions with village officials and members of the Women’s Farmers Group (KWT). Each 7R principle was introduced, practical applications were explored, and local waste management challenges were addressed. Results: The program resulted in a substantial increase in participants' understanding, with comprehension levels rising from an initial 2-4 participants to 18-21 participants who fully understood key principles like "Rethink" and "Recycle" by the program's conclusion. Conclusions: The program successfully enhanced community knowledge and engagement in sustainable waste management. Future initiatives could benefit from practical training to reinforce knowledge and empower participants to implement waste management strategies, contributing to the development of environmentally conscious communities aligned with broader sustainability goals. Limitations: The limitations of the study include the absence of practical demonstrations and the limited sample size, which may affect the generalizability of the findings. Contribution: This program contributes to the field of environmental education by promoting sustainable waste management practices within rural communities and aligning local actions with global sustainability goals.

Abstract

This study evaluated the operational effectiveness of the Fluidized Bed Dryer (FBD) machine in the traditional black tea drying process using the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) framework, which includes availability, performance efficiency, and quality rate, as defined in ISO 22400-2:2014. Data collected from January to June 2023 indicated an average OEE of 83.66%. Although availability was consistently high (94–100%) and product quality maintained at 100% throughout the month, performance efficiency varied considerably, dropping to 69% in January and 66% in April, primarily due to operational delays and unstable machine utilization. These results indicate that performance efficiency was the main factor affecting OEE and total productivity. It recommends implementing condition-based maintenance procedures and real-time process monitoring systems to minimize unexpected downtime and enhance operational stability. Better regulation of input load, airflow, and drying temperature was crucial to ensure consistent performance and support product standardization in accordance with SNI 2891:2016, ultimately enhancing the competitiveness of the black tea processing industry.
