Abstract

The study aims at figuring out whether there is or not the correlation between motivation andspeaking ability of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Mengwi in the academic year 2020/2021.The present study used ex-post facto research with correlation design. In this research, there were 36students taken from the eighth grade class of SMP Negeri 3 Mengwi. In collecting the data, theresearcher used a questionnaire that was on the types of motivation by Ryan & Deci (2000). Besides,the researcher used a speaking test by administering the descriptive monologue. The result showed thatthe students’ total score for motivation resulted in 2637, and the speaking ability was 2985. Those datawere analyzed by using SPSS 23.0, which is consisted of the Normality test, Homogeneity test, PearsonProduct Moment, and T-testing. For the result of this research, the hypothesis was significantlyaccepted. According to Pearson Product Moment’s result, the r-value was 0.366, and the significancevalue was 0.014. It shows a significant correlation between motivation and speaking ability of theeighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Mengwi in the academic year 2020/2021. It lies between 0.200– 0.400, which is at a low level.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out the significant correlation between students’ habit of watching English movies and vocabulary mastery of the tenth-grade of SMAN 1 Kuta Selatan in academic year 2020/2021. The sample of this research were 38 students of SMAN 1 Kuta Selatan. For collecting the data, there were two instruments used which were a questionnaire to find out the students’ habit of watching English movies and the multiple-choice test item for vocabulary mastery. The questionnaire used included aspects such as frequency, repetition, and automatic behaviour of habit of watching English movies, while the multiple-choice test item consisted of noun, verb, pronoun, and adjective. The SPSS 23.0 program was used to analyse the data. The result of Pearson Product Moment showed that the r-counted was 0.707. It lied between 0.600-0.800 which was in a sufficient level. It showed that there was a positive and significant correlation between students’ habit of watching English movies and vocabulary mastery of the tenth-grade of SMAN 1 Kuta Selatan in academic year 2020/2021.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out the significant correlation between grammar mastery and writing achievement of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri Hindu 2 Sukawati in the academic year 2021/2022. The design was a correlation study research design. The sample was 40 students. In collecting the data for this research, the writer used two types of tests: the grammar mastery test to test students' grammar mastery of past tense and the writing test to recount paragraphs for testing students' writing achievements. It got a score of 3.010 for grammar mastery and 3.232 for writing achievement. The data were analysed by using SPSS 25.0 which consists of the Normality test, Homogeneity test, Pearson Product Moment, and T-testing. The finding out of the study revealed that the hypothesis in this study was high correlation accepted. According to the result of Pearson Product Moment, it is found that r was 0.608. It lies between 0.600 – 0.800 which is a high level. Based on the result, it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between grammar mastery and writing achievement of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri Hindu 2 Sukawati in the academic year 2021/2022.

Abstract

This paper focuses on undergraduate students’ critical reflection in a service-learning (S-L) project to promote the conservation of the birds based on local wisdom in a village in Bali. The students are working in a partnership with researchers and local communities from a traditional rural village, namely Desa Adat Demulih, Bangli regency. The objective of this paper is to show what students can learn and how they gain personal growth, civic-learning and academic enhancement during the S-L project. The finding shows students’ positive improvements in self-confidence, civic awareness, and community engagement. This study indicates a significance role of S-L based on critical reflection in documenting, deepening and promoting local identity and culture as a key component of community-bird conservation. In line with the finding, this study is expected to show how the interdisciplinary studies are cooperatively applied to draw knowledge from different disciplines by acquiring mutual relationship in learning their local knowledge.

Abstract

This research aimed to increase students’ grammar mastery by using drilling method in online learning at VIII.1 Grade of SMP Widiatmika in academic year 2020/2021. The subject of this research was students at VIII.1 grade of SMP Widiatmika that consisted of twenty-five students. This research was classroom action research which was conducted in two cycles based on Kemmis and McTaggart model. The data of this research were obtained by using the result of pre-test and post-test, and also item of questionnaire. The result of this research showed that there were increase in students’ grammar mastery after implementing the drilling method. Thus, the students also found that drilling method in this research was useful and effective to increase students’ grammar mastery.

Abstract

Pandemi virus corona telah mewabah di seluruh dunia termasuk di Indonesia. tidak saja melumpuhkan perekonomian tetapi juga dunia pendidikan. Program pengabdian pada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan dengan tujuan meningkatkan kemampuan para guru dalam melakasanakan pembelajaran secara online. Program ini dilakukan karena urgensi yang harus dilakukan karena guru terpaksa mengajar secara online selama berkembangnya virus corona. Kemapuan para guru ini mutlak perlu ditingkatkan agar mampu mengajar dengan efektif. Mengingat masih banyak kendala yang dihadapi oleh guru dalam pembelajaran secara online maka program pengabdian ini perlu dilaksanakan supaya pembelajaran berlangsung lebih efektif. Program ini berupa pelatihan dan pendampingan yang dilaksanakan secara online yang meliputi pelatihan metode pembelajaran yang lebih inovatif dan efektif, dan pembuatan materi pembelajaran.

Abstract

Abstrak: Kemampuan menulis dianggap sebagai kemampuan penting yang perlu ditingkatkan. Hal tersebut dapat dicapai melalui pelaksanaan round table technique. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini utamanya dilaksanakan untuk menunjukkan apakah round table technique dapat digunakan dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis mahasiswa. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas sepuluh SMA Negeri 5 Denpasar tahun Akademik 2012/2013. Berdasarkan hasil prates, yang dilaksanakan pada pra siklus, menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan siswa dalam menulis paragraf dikategorikan kurang yaitu 61.97. Selanjutnya penelitian tindakan kelas dilakukan dengan pelaksanaan round table technique dalam rencana dua siklus. Berdasarkan teknik yang dilaksanakan, terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan pada kemampuan menulis paragraf deskriptif siswa, dimana hal tersebut meningkat dari kurang menjadi baik, yaitu 68.09 pada siklus I dan 76,29 pada siklus II.Terlebih lagi, penelitian ini dapat memberikan peningkatan kemampuan menulis deskriptif paragraf siswa melalui pelaksanaan teknik tersebut. Kesimpulannya, penelitian tindakan kelas ini menunjukkan bahwa round table technique dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa kelas sepuluh SMA Negeri 5 Denpasar. Terlebih lagi teknik yang dilaksanakan juga direspon positif oleh subjek penelitian yaitu siswa kelas sepuluh SMA Negeri 5 Denpasar tahun akademik 2012/2013. Abstract

One of the indicators of teacher professional competence is being able to utilize technology in the learning process to answer the challenges of the times. This is in accordance with the competence of 21st-century teachers, namely having good skills and digital literacy. In other words, teachers' competence from time to time must continuously be upgraded to keep up with the development. This study used qualitative research design to investigate the teachers’ roles in innovating learning strategies. The study found that teachers are required to use various skills in developing teaching and learning strategies to meet the demand of the students to equip them with sufficient knowledge and skills to survive in this new millennium era. Furthermore, this study highlights that teachers should continually upgrade their knowledge and ability to conduct learning activities professionally

Abstract

Writing ability is one of the abilities of a student to contribute what they know. Writing is a language skill that has an important role in human life. In writing students often encounter several obstacles, therefore, teachers are encouraged to implement appropriate teaching methods to ensure that the learning activities become effective. This study made use of a classroom action research design with two cycles of learning activities to improve students' writing skills through BEST strategy. Data were collected through pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire. The results showed that the writing skill of the students improved significantly from the first and second cycles when compared to the results of the pre-test. Therefore, the BEST strategy is considered very effective for teaching writing skills. This study implies that teachers should consider using BEST strategy to enhance students' writing skills.

Abstract

Vocabulary is needed in English reading comprehension. The correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension was concern to be figured out. There were 37 eighth-grade students of SMP (SLUB) Saraswati 1 Denpasar in the academic year 2022/2023 who participated in the study. Further, in collecting the data, the researchers used two kinds of tests: a cloze task for vocabulary mastery and a short answer task for reading comprehension. SPSS 25.0 program was utilized to analyze the data with the following steps: normality testing, homogeneity testing, Pearson Product Moment, and t-test. The result of this research showed that there was a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension with an r value 0.675. In addition, it showed that the level correlation was sufficient because it was in the interval of 0.60-0.799. Therefore, it shows a significant correlation between the two variables: vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension. Further studies with a wide range of subjects are recommended to figure out the role of vocabulary in English learning.
