Abstract

The burgeoning industrial sector in Indonesia has intensified competition among businesses vying for market share. The furniture industry is a prime example of this dynamic landscape. To expand their market reach, companies must demonstrate their ability to fulfill every consumer demand. Failure to meet these expectations will prompt consumers to seek alternatives. One crucial factor in meeting consumer demands is product availability, which is directly influenced by the availability of raw materials within the company. CV XYZ Furniture, a furniture company based in Padang City, exemplifies this challenge. The company produces a diverse range of furniture, primarily utilizing rattan as its raw material. However, CV XYZ Furniture currently lacks a structured inventory planning method for raw materials, resulting in excess inventory for each period. To address this issue, this research aims to establish an optimized inventory planning strategy for raw materials used in furniture production at CV XYZ Furniture. The continuous review system method serves as the foundation for this endeavor. The research outcomes encompass the determination of optimal demand quantity, reorder point, and safety stock. The implementation of the continuous review system model yielded a significant reduction in total inventory costs, amounting to Rp8,625,594 or 2.03%. It can be proven that the continuous review system model is suitable for calculating raw material inventory at CV XYZ Furniture for raw material planning in the following years.

Abstract

This study analyses the quality of FR S/C Side RH Bracket products at PT BMI, especially concerning the nut dragging problem, which is often the main defect. This study aims to analyze and improve the nut dragging defect problem in FR S/C Side RH Bracket products, as well as provide an understanding of the effectiveness of the improvement in reducing the number of defective products. The analysis shows that FR S/C Side RH Bracket products with nut dragging problems are the most frequent defects, reaching 632 defective units or about 60% of the total defective products before improvement. The Failure Tree Analysis (FTA) method was used to identify the root cause of the nut dragging problem, which revealed that machine factors were generally the main cause, especially setting the spot welding machine parameters too high. In response, improvements were made by changing the parameters on the SW.03 spot welding machine and adding a cooling water line. The results showed a significant decrease in defective products, totaling 1320 units. After the improvement, only 141 units were defective. This research provides an in-depth understanding of product quality issues at PT BMI. It offers solutions to improve product quality and meet customer expectations in the highly competitive automotive industry.

Abstract

This study endeavors to enhance the productivity of solar module production in a renewable energy conversion company. The existing production line needs help in achieving the daily target of 64 units, resulting in an actual output of only 40 units. This study focuses on optimizing the production line by considering processing time adjustments and operator flexibility. To accurately measure working time, we incorporate operator flexibility and adjustment factors in the planning phase of solar module production. The primary objective is establishing an optimal production trajectory by balancing the load and capacity across workstations, thereby elevating overall production efficiency. The approach involves the application of the trial-error method and the shortest operation time method, implemented through POM QM software. Through meticulous data analysis, we determine that the trial-error process yields the most optimal results. Post-implementation, improvements are evident as the solar module production capacity increases to 60 units per day from the initial 40 units. Additionally, the idle time ratio on the assembly line to available time diminishes to 13.17% after optimization. This study contributes valuable insights into the effective enhancement of solar module production lines, emphasizing practical methodologies and software-assisted techniques for achieving substantial productivity gains in the renewable energy sector.

Abstract

This research was conducted to plan material needs and control the production capacity of bracket chambers at an automotive component company. The problems found were company excessively procures raw materials and unbalanced machine capacity in producing bracket chamber products. This research uses stages of the material requirements planning method, including calculating Rough Cut Capacity Planning (RCCP), Material Requirement Planning (MRP), and Capacity Requirement Planning (CRP). Implementing a MRP system enables organisations to accurately ascertain the specific kind, quantity, and timing of materials required for the production process. At the RCCP stage, capacity calculations are carried out on the CNC machine, press 1 and press 2 to find out whether the capacity of each machine can meet the company's MPS. MRP calculations are carried out to determine the optimal raw material ordering schedule using three lot sizing methods, namely Lot For Lot, Economic Order Quantity, and Period Order Quantity. At the CRP stage, each machine's capacity availability report will be made to meet bracket chamber production needs. The results of this research using RCCP and CRP analysis show that press 1 and press 2 have an unbalanced load between availability and actual demand, so it is recommended that these machines can also be used for other production so that the machines are not idle. Material requirements planning should use the Lot For Lot technique because it produces the minimum total inventory costs, namely IDR 12,710,751, with a material ordering frequency of 12 times in 1 year.

Abstract

PMG, Ltd is a company that manufactures and subcontracts for car lighting companies. The problem on the automobile lamp factory floor is that workers do repetitive operations and lifting loads manually without using tools. The goal of this research is to determine the risk level of work posture and provide recommendations for improvements to four-wheeled vehicle lighting component companies. The methods used to assess operator working posture are the Nordic Body Map (NBM), Quick Exposure Check (QEC) and Ovako Working Posture Analysis System (OWAS) questionnaires. Based on the results of the NBM questionnaire, Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) symptoms were found on the neck, back, hands and feet. The score for the QEC method is 65.43%, which means further research and changes are needed, and the OWAS method is in category 2, which means that corrective action is needed in the near future. Improvements in working posture were carried out by redesigning the work table according to anthropometric ergonomics principles and reducing the flow of stages in the lamp production process from 11 steps to 8 work steps.

Abstract

This research discusses the analysis of work posture in the MMH activity of lifting products from thebending workstation to the Quality Control (QC) and packaging workstation. Observations weremade on the operator's working posture at the bending workstation in Kobar, Ltd, which producesrear brake components. The problems found were manual material handling activities in the form ofrepetitive lifting and placing products from the bending workstation to the QC and packagingworkstation. Work posture analysis was done using the Nordic body map questionnaire, REBA, andOWAS methods. Based on the results of the NBM questionnaire, fatigue occurred in the right elbow, left elbow, upper back, lower back, lower wrist, right wrist, and left wrist.Meanwhile, the results of the REBA method obtained a score between 4-7, which means that MMHactivities have a moderate risk and immediate improvement. Apart from that, based on the OWASmethod, a score of between 2-3 is obtained, so improvements must be made as soon as possible. Theimprovements made were by designing material handling tools using the principles of kaizenkarakuri and anthropometric ergonomics. This improvement eliminates the element of manualmaterial handling work and changes the position of the layout.
