Abstract

This Community Service Program was conducted in Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, Kungkilan Village, Sosoh Buay Rayap District, , in August 2025. The purpose of this activity was to empower farmers in processing corn stalk waste into organic fertilizer. The methods used included lectures, discussions, and practical simulations of organic fertilizer production. The activities began with providing theoretical material on the benefits of corn stalks and composting methods, followed by practical exercises on making organic fertilizer. This program involved 25 farmers as participants, who were the target partners in the village. Evaluation results showed a 40% increase in knowledge, with an improvement in understanding the benefits of corn stalks from 45% to 85%, using pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The composting techniques from 50% to 90%, and the impact of organic fertilizer on agricultural yields from 40% to 80%. The program also successfully reduced farmers' dependence on chemical fertilizers, with 60% of farmers reporting a decrease in chemical fertilizer usage and 75% of farmers starting to process corn stalks into organic fertilizer. This activity also supported environmentally friendly farming practices by reducing the burning of agricultural waste and improving farmers' welfare. Overall, this program successfully achieved its objectives and has the potential to be implemented in other areas.ABSTRAKProgram Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di Kabupaten Ogan Komering Ulu tepatnya pada Desa Kungkilan, Kecamatan Sosoh Buay Rayap, pada bulan Agustus 2025. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk memberdayakan petani dalam mengolah limbah batang jagung menjadi pupuk organik. Metode yang digunakan meliputi ceramah, diskusi, dan simulasi praktis pembuatan pupuk organik. Tahapan kegiatan dimulai dengan pemberian materi teori mengenai manfaat limbah jagung dan cara pengolahan kompos, diikuti dengan praktik langsung pembuatan pupuk organik. Program ini melibatkan 25 petani sebagai peserta, yang merupakan mitra sasaran di desa tersebut. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan sebesar 40%, dengan pemahaman manfaat limbah jagung meningkat dari 45% menjadi 85%, melalui kuesioner pre-test dan post-test. teknik pengolahan kompos dari 50% menjadi 90%, dan pengaruh pupuk organik terhadap hasil pertanian dari 40% menjadi 80%. Program ini juga berhasil mengurangi ketergantungan petani pada pupuk kimia, dengan 60% petani melaporkan pengurangan penggunaan pupuk kimia dan 75% petani mulai mengolah limbah jagung menjadi pupuk organik. Kegiatan ini juga mendukung pertanian ramah lingkungan dengan mengurangi pembakaran limbah, serta meningkatkan kesejahteraan petani. Secara keseluruhan, kegiatan ini berhasil mencapai tujuannya dan berpotensi diterapkan di wilayah lain.

Abstract

Porang cultivation can be carried out using three planting materials, namely true seeds, bulbils, and cormel, these three planting materials experience dormancy. Potassium Nitrate Solution (KNO3) is a chemical compound that is effective in breaking the dormancy of some plant seeds.This study aims to the effect of shading, soaking with KNO3 and bulbil conditions on the emergence of shoots and the growth of porang plants. The research was conducted in September 2021 to November 2021. The design used was split split plot using three factors, shading (N) as the main plot, namely N0: without shade, N1: 45%, N2: 55%, N3: 80%, KNO3 concentration (K) as subplots, namely K0: Without immersion KNO3, K1: 1500 ppm, K2: 3000 ppm, K3: 4500 ppm and bulbil conditions (D) as sub-sub plots, namely D0: Dormant and D1: Mentis. The data collected included the percentage of shoots emergence, time of shoot emergence, broken petiole sheath, leaf open fully, shoot height, number of shoots, number of leaves, petiole length, petiole diameter, midrib length, leaf width, leaf area and leaf thickness. The results showed that shading 55% and bulbil mentis accelerated the emergence of shoot at 26 DAP and 26.9 DAP, respectively. Soaking in KNO3 solution did not accelerate the emergence of shoots. The emergence of shoots affects the time of petiole sheath break and the leaves open fully, the faster the emergence of shoot, the faster the petiole sheath breaks, the faster the leaves open fully. Shade 80% increases the growth of porang plants with the longest leaf petiole of 22.6 cm; petiole diameter 5.5 mm; midrib length 10.34 cm; the width of the leaflets is 4.7 cm and the leaf area is 183.2 cm², except for the thickness of the leaves.

Abstract

Jumlah penduduk semakin meningkat menyebabkan tumpukan sampah (sayuran dan buahan) meningkat. Sampah organik maupun anorganik melimpah. Limbah sampah perlu di olah menjadi pupuk organik. Pengabdian telah di laksanakan pada bulan Desember 2021 bertempat di Desa Tanjungan Kabupaten OKU. Metode pengabdian dengan ceramah, tanya jawab, dan praktik pembuatan pupuk organik. Transfer iptek yang di berikan pada kelompok tani dalam pengabdian ini adalah menjelaskan cara pembuatan pupuk organik cair yang berasal dari limbah buah dan aplikasinya dalam budidaya tanaman sayuran secara vertikultur. Tahap-tahap yang akan dilakukan yaitu 1. persiapan bahan dan alat, 2. Pembuatan POC, 3. Aplikasi POC. Dari hasil pengabdian kepada masyarakat di Desa Tanjungan bahwa masyarakat mendapat pengetahuan tentang teknologi dalam mengelolah limbah organik asal rumah tangga berupa sayuran dan buuah buahan menjadi pupuk organik cair dan pengaplikasinya dalam budidaya sayuran secara vertikultur.

Abstract

The 3-in-1 vegetable-fish cultivation is an innovative cultivation system that integrates floating and climbing vegetable cultivation with fish culture. This cultivation is a solution to the problem of narrow land in urban areas for vegetable-fish cultivation to create: a) Fish farming in a concrete pool at the bottom position, b) Shade-tolerant vegetables cultivated using a floating culture system, and c) Climbing vegetables on a dedicated netted-frames as high as 2 meters above the pool. The dimensions of the pool correspond to the available land. The floating raft was constructed using 69 units of 1.5 L plastic bottles as floaters, assembled into a raft with a surface area of 2 m2. The buoyancy capacity of the raft is 120 kg. The raft has been patented with Granted patent No. IDP 000065141. The community service activities are a) Open demonstrations for 3-in-1 vegetable-fish farming installations; b) Socialization and assistance to communities interested in implementing it; and c) Collection of data and information for evaluation and publication materials. Static demonstration activities during one cycle of cultivation and socialization to three potential community groups, namely: a) Urban communities as the primary target; b) Journalists for more enlarging coverage of the dissemination; and c) Agricultural students for the learning process. Urban communities can adopt the dissemination of land optimization through 3-in-1 vegetable-fish cultivation on urban land. Community interest in this cultivation system innovation is outstanding, as represented by the community's enthusiasm for this program.

Abstract

Tantangan utama dalam budidaya porang adalah meningkatkan kemampuan adaptasi tanaman terhadap naungan, sehingga porang dapat tumbuh dengan baik di bawah kanopi pohon perkebunan. Percobaan ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pertumbuhan siklus hidup pertama tanaman porang yang berasal dari ukuran bulbil yang berbeda pada tanaman sela di antara pohon karet. Percobaan ini dilaksanakan di kebun karet rakyat yang telah berumur 20 tahun, pada bulan Agustus 2021 - Januari 2022, di Desa Lubuk Batang Kabupaten Ogan Komering Ulu Provinsi Sumatera Selatan. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Spilt-Split Plot dengan 3 faktor. Petak utama terdiri atas perlakuan naungan yaitu tanpa naungan (N0) dan ditanam di antara pohon karet (N1), dan anak petak  yang terdiri dari perlakuan berat bulbil yaitu bulbil  2 g - 3,9 g (B1), bulbil 4 g - 5,9 g (B2), dan bulbil 10 g -15,9 g (B3); anak-anak petak terdiri atas  morfologi bulbil yaitu tanpa turberkel (D0) dan tuberkel menonjol (D1). Hasil percobaan menunjukkan porang yang ditanam di antara tanaman karet lebih cepat muncul tunas dan mempercepat pecah selubung pertiole 33 HST dan 43,94 HST. Selain itu, tuberkel yang menonjol juga mempersingkat waktu kemunculan tunas selama 45,52 hari. Selanjutnya berat bulbil yang lebih tinggi yakni 10 g – 15,9 g  juga memengaruhi morfologi tanaman porang di antara panjang midrib 14,17 cm, lebar anak daun 5,61 cm,  serta luas daun 212,81 cm. Naungan menjaga kelembapan substrat namun sedikit memperlambat kemunculan tunas dan membuat tunas lebih pendek, namun memperpanjang tangkai daun, meningkatkan luas daun, serta mengurangi ketebalan daun. Selain itu, semakin besar bobot bulbil, semakin cepat pertumbuhan tunas dan tanaman porang. Kondisi bulbil dengan tuberkel menonjol mempercepat kemunculan tunas di atas permukaan tanah dibandingkan dengan bulbil yang masih dalam kondisi tanpa turberkel.

Abstract

Optimization of purple pakcoi vegetable cultivation can be done through the management of environmental factors such as shade and watering intervals. This study aims to determine the effect of shade and watering intervals on the growth and yield of purple pakcoi. The experiment used a split-plot design with two factors. The main plot consisted of: N0 (no shade), N1 (50% shade), and N2 (75% shade). The subplots consisted of: P1 (watering every day), P2 (watering every 2 days), and P3 (watering every 3 days). The variables observed were: plant height, number of leaves, fresh shoot weight, dry shoot weight, fresh root weight, dry root weight, shoot-root ratio, and SPAD value. The results showed that the highest average values ​​of each variable were: plant height 34,55 cm; number of leaves 10; fresh shoot weight 96 g; dry shoot weight 3,7 g; fresh root weight 2,4 g; dry root weight 0,32 g; shoot-root ratio 14%; and a SPAD value of 38. Plants grown under 75% shade showed good tolerance to reduced light intensity. These findings suggest that purple pakcoi has the potential to be cultivated in confined urban areas and as an intercrop to improve land use efficiency.

Abstract

Climate change and food security are global challenges on this era. Climate trends play a critical role in characterizing climatic conditions and informing agricultural suitability recommendations in tropical regions. As rapidly expanding tropical urban areas, Palembang and Jambi warrant particular attention regarding to climate and food security challenges. The study aimed to evaluate climate change and suitability for urban agriculture in Palembang and Jambi. The study used secondary data of monthly rainfall, air temperature, relative humidity, and sunshine duration for the 2014-2018 and 2019-2023 periods. The collected data were subsequently averaged on a monthly basis for each observation period. Thereafter, the data were analyzed using descriptive method. The results showed that there are obvious differences of climate status between Palembang and Jambi, especially related to rainfall. Rainfall in Palembang is higher than Jambi as represented by number of wet months (5-8 months on Palembang and 3-6 months on Jambi). Meanwhile, the dry season in Jambi is potentially longer than Palembang. There was an indication of increasing air temperature in both regions, as indicated by the higher air temperature in 2019-2023 compared to 2014-2018. The air temperature increases each month in Palembang and Jambi is 1.14% and 0.93%, respectively. Nevertheless, air temperature, air humidity, and sunshine duration were still within the range of tropical plants to grow and be productive. Therefore, the recommendation of suitable cultivation in Palembang and Jambi is almost similar, in March-April and November-December applying cultivation techniques under excess water condition, otherwise in June-August on drought-resistant or minimum irrigation cultivation.
