Abstract

Ashar Farm is one of the goat farming businesses in Payakumbuh City that has shown low progress. The population of Ashar Farm goats continued to decrease due to the death of sick goats or the slaughter of paralyzed goats. This phenomenon was due to farmers' need for knowledge in goat-raising management, especially health management. Goat long hoove was one of the causes of goat's feet leg disruption, which can cause infection, paralysis, and reduce the goat's productivity. This activity aimed to increase knowledge and coach farmers' skills in raising and maintaining goat health through hooves trimming training. This activity was carried out in several steps, i.e., preparation, counseling, training, and evaluation. The counseling method used was delivering material to the farmers about good farming practices and interactive discussions with farmers. Goat hooves trimming used simple equipment, which was easy to obtain nearby the farm. The activity was carried out according to the planning, and farmers participated well and enthusiastically, as seen from the many questions asked to the Team. Farmers have improved goat-raising management so that goats' health is maintained and their productivity increases. The evaluation results showed that farmers had adopted the information and knowledge conveyed by the Team during the implementation of activities, as seen from the rise in farmers' knowledge and skills. Farmers have skilled in hoove-trimming and apply it to their goats. They have also improved goat farming management so that the health of their goats is maintained and productivity increases.

Abstract

This activity is conducted with cattle farmers in Nagari Sariak Laweh, Akabiluru District, Fifty Kota Regency. Based on the preliminary survey in Nagari Sariak Laweh, most cattle farmers engage in farming as a side business, alongside growing food crops. Until now, knowledge about efficient and productive livestock management among the group members remains low. Rice straw has not been utilized as feed, and farmers struggle to obtain fresh forage and afford the relatively expensive concentrate feed. Farmers also face challenges acquiring fertilizers due to the high cost of synthetic fertilizers. Therefore, the goal of this activity is to enhance the skills and knowledge of cattle farmers in the Akabiluru district regarding beef cattle management, aiming to increase the productivity of the raised beef cattle. The method of delivering the material is carried out to equip participants with good beef cattle management practices, the utilization of straw, and the use of cattle manure. The results of this activity include cattle farmers gaining an understanding and proficiency in beef cattle management. Additionally, farmers are trained to produce fermented feed and organic fertilizer. As evidence of success, participants, with the guidance of the resource persons, successfully produced 55 kg of fermented straw, 55 kg of silage, and 17 kg of organic fertilizer made from cattle manure.

Abstract

Sariak Laweh is a Nagari in the Indonesian province of West Sumatra's Akabiluru sub-district, Limapuluh Kota Regency. Farmers and breeders of livestock provide the majority of people's livelihoods. Nagari Sariak Laweh has much potential for planting crops like rice and vegetables. In addition, farmers and breeders in Sariak Laweh report a need for more livestock feed. This program aims to educate farmers about fermented forage animal feed and provide them with the necessary skills. Farmers can autonomously create and produce animal feed, which can reduce the amount of input and associated costs. The community engagement service was delivered through lecture and discussion techniques, which included direct conversations, practice sessions, and presentations by subject-matter experts. In order to manufacture fermented forage animal feed, farmers receive training from students. Therefore, this training would help breeders become more adept at using fermented forage animal feed in the field. The products from the training were prepared rice straw and processed corn waste that are ready for fermentation so that farmers can use them as feed samples in the future.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the potential of palm oil waste as ruminant livestock feed in Bulik District, Lamandau Regency. The research method used is a survey method using a questionnaire. The sample used was 60 farmers determined using the Slovin formula. The variables observed were the potential of palm oil waste as livestock feed consisting of fronds and leaves and technical aspects of livestock maintenance. Data analysis was descriptively based on the Technical Factor Identification Score of Livestock Standard Guidelines from the Directorate General of Livestock (1990). The results showed that the potential for palm oil fronds and leaves waste for feed was: 87.657.600 kg for each year and could feed 6,419,65 AU. The technical aspects of beef cattle farming in Bulik District were: 53.41% with categories: 51.04% livestock; 46.90% feed, 62% maintenance, 81.11% housing and 40.88% healthy technical aspects.

Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the distribution and development of goat farms in Limapuluh Kota District with two main objectives: (a) to map the spatial distribution and development areas of goat farms, and (b) to enhance the capacity of the goat population within the district. Spatial analysis was conducted using ArcGIS 10.9, Location Quotient, and Shift Share Analysis to identify key areas for goat farm distribution and development. The capacity of livestock populations was evaluated through the CIRP method using Microsoft Excel, based on potential land resources. Secondary data from 2017 to 2021 on goat farm production was sourced from the Livestock and Animal Health Service Office and BPS Limapuluh Kota. Results indicated that goat farms are primarily concentrated in the Harau, Suliki, and Bukit Barisan Districts, while the Mungka, Payakumbuh, Guguak, Lareh Sago Halaban, and Kapur Sembilan Districts are identified as development areas. The Situjuh Limo Nagari, Luak, Akabiluru, and Pangkalan Koto Baru Districts are classified as consolidation areas, and the Gunuang Omeh District serves as a supporting area. The analysis highlights that 13 districts have potential for boosting the goat population, whereas Situjuh Limo Nagari and Guguak are categorized in the low group due to their goat population being below the threshold of 200 LU.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to assess the potential for ruminant livestock development in Lima Puluh Kota District by analyzing land cover and land use. A high-accuracy land cover map (kappa = 0.97) was created using Landsat 8-9 Path/Row 127/060 satellite imagery and the Random Forest (RF) classification method. Analysis was conducted using Geographic Information System (GIS) processes to evaluate land suitability. Slope, elevation, and proximity to water sources. As a result, about 35% of the district is highly suitable (S1) for ruminant farming. Due to the abundance of natural fodder and conditions conducive to extensive grazing systems, these ideal areas are mostly zones of dryland agriculture, mixed gardens and shrubs. However, due to limited fodder supply and geographical constraints, densely forested environments and urban environments are categorized as moderately suitable or unsuitable. The importance of improving livestock spatial arrangements was highlighted by the significant mismatches found when existing livestock population data were spatially overlaid with suitability maps. In conclusion, Lima Puluh Kota District has a strong biophysical basis to support ruminant livestock development. However, to ensure sustainable and effective use of land resources for livestock, spatial planning and land use policies must be aligned.
