Abstract

Pest control can biodepress the development of insect pests of palawija plants, one of which is by utilizing the potential of predatory birds. Today farmers use synthetic chemical pesticides in insect pest control. This research aims to identify a type of predatory bird that has the potential to control the pest of palawija insects in the agricultural area of Gunong Pulo Village, North Kluet Subdistrict, North Kluet Subdistrict. Data collection was conducted in May 2021 using purposive sampling methods, with transect line observations and quantitative approaches. The results of the study were obtained by bird species that became predators of insect pests, namely Kirik-kirik Biru, Kadalan Selaya, Bubut Alang-alang, Kapasan Kemiri, Layang-layang Api, Pelatuk Merah, Pelatuk Bawang, Apung Sawah, Tiong Lampu Biasa, Bangau Tongtong, Tiong Emas, Bambangan Merah, Cangak Merah, Kuntul Kerbau, Kuntul Besar, Cica Daun Kecil, Cipoh Kacat, Elang Ular Bido, Elang Bondol, Elang Hitam, Kutilang, Merbah Cerucuk, Cabai Merah, Bondol Haji, Perkutut, Punai, Punai Gading, Punai Ungu, and Tekukur. From the results of the study can be concluded there are 30 species of prodator birds from 18 families in Gunong Pulo Village, North Kluet District, South Aceh Regency.

Abstract

The research aims to determine the effect of giving cayenne leaf extract in increasing the length and amount of hair on mice. This research belongs to the type of quantitative research. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) in consisting of 5 treatment and 4 repetitions. The treatments consisted of NC (negative control, not treated), PC (positive control, given a commercial hair extract), P1 (cayenne leaf extract 10%), P2 (cayenne leaf extract 20%), and P3 (cayenne leaf extract 30%). Research parameters included the increase of the hair length and amount of hairs growing in mice. The result showed that giving extract of cayenne leaf significantly influences the length and amount of hairs in mice, with 10% concentration (P2) was the optimum concentration of the extract that can trigger the hair growth. It can be concluded that given extract of cayenne leaf can increase the hairs growth in mice and has potential as hair tonic.

Abstract

The use of medicinal plants in society has existed since ancient times as a method of traditional medicine. The general public often lacks adequate education and information about the correct and safe use of medicinal plants. This can result in incorrect use and higher health risks. The aim of this research is to carry out more in-depth scientific research, implement strict regulations, provide education to the public, and promote sustainable and responsible practices of using medicinal plants. This research was conducted in July, 2023 in Gampong (Village) Limpok, Aceh Besar District. Research using descriptive qualitative method. Community data collection by interview, observation and documentation methods. The results of the study can be concluded that there are 32 plant species from the inventory that have long been used by the Gampong Limpok community as medicinal plants. Despite the potential benefits, there are also challenges and barriers that can arise in the community use of medicinal plants.

Abstract

Tracing the trade and distribution pathways refers to the systematic analysis of the origins, movement routes, and distribution patterns of a commodity, such as songbirds, from its source to the final market or end consumer. This study explored the dynamics of bird trade in the markets of Banda Aceh city, focusing on species diversity, conservation status, species origin, and trade patterns. The study was conducted in nine sub-districts, covering 18 bird shops, using a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through direct observation, market surveys, and structured interviews with traders. Species identification was conducted using the Birds of the Indonesian Archipelago guide, while conservation status was evaluated based on the IUCN Red List and CITES Appendices. In addition, Geographic Information System (GIS) software was used to map bird trade distribution channels. The results showed the presence of 54 bird species with a total of 638 individuals, mostly from the Passeriformes order. The most commonly traded species was Acridotheres javanicus (kerak kerbau), with 132 individuals, reflecting its high demand due to its adaptability and affordability. Conservation analysis showed the vulnerability of species such as Gracula religiosa (Nias parrot), which is listed in Appendix II of CITES, and Rubigula dispar (yellow finch), which is categorized as Vulnerable. This research highlights the complex relationship between the local bird trade and conservation efforts, and the importance of stricter regulation and increased public awareness to protect threatened species. The findings make an important contribution to policy recommendations in order to promote sustainable bird trade and biodiversity conservation in Banda Aceh.
