Abstract

Fig cuttings often face problems with failure of the roots to grow from the cuttings, so efforts are needed to encourage root induction by administering auxin growth regulators. Rootone F is an exogenous PGR from the auxin group which can stimulate root growth. In order for the roots to grow, develop and function well, plants need an ideal planting medium. The ideal planting medium to support good growth of plant seeds is a proportional composition of physical, chemical and biological elements. The aim of the research was to examine the combined effect of Rootone F concentration and planting media composition on the vegetative growth of fig cuttings. The research consisted of two treatment factors, namely the concentration of Rootone F (0 ppm (Control), 100 ppm, 150 ppm and 200 ppm) and the composition of the planting media (soil: husk charcoal: cow manure) with a ratio (1:1:1), (2:1:1), and (3:1:1). The best treatment combination is 150 ppm Rootone F and planting media mixed with soil: roasted husks: organic cow fertilizer with a ratio of 3:1:1 which has a significant effect on shoot length, root length, fresh weight of roots and percentage of live cuttings (%). A concentration of 100 ppm Rootone F gave the best results when the first shoots appeared (DAT), a concentration of 150 ppm Rootone F gave the best results on the number of leaves. A planting medium composition of (3:1:1) gives the best results when the first shoots appear (DAT).   Keywords: Auxin, Growth regulator, Influence, Nutrient, Vegetative.

Abstract

Shallots (Allium ascalonicum L.) are cultivated as a high economic value agricultural business. Cutting the tip of the seed bulb can stimulate, accelerate and synchronize plant growth. In hydroponic cultivation, the volume of planting media is an important component that needs to be considered. This research was conducted at the Greenhouse Hydroponic Farm Lamongan, Lamongan District, Lamongan Regency, East Java. Split plot design (RPT) or split plot design in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with the main plot (main plot) the volume of planting media (U) with 3 levels: 10cm (U1), 15cm (U2), 20cm (U3) and sub plots (sub plots) are the size of the cutting of the seed bulbs (P) with 4 levels: not cut (P0), cut 1/4 (P1), cut 1/3 (P2), cut 1/2 (P3). It was found that the treatment of the size of the cutting of the seed bulbs affected the vegetative and generative variables. Meanwhile, the treatment of planting media volume affects generative variables, especially on the number of harvested bulbs per box and the weight of harvested bulbs per box. The most optimal interaction between the combination of the size of cutting seed bulbs and the volume of planting media occurs at the size of cutting seed bulbs of 1/4 part and the volume of planting media of 10 cm, which is able to increase the weight of harvested bulbs per clump.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the optimal harvest time and packaging type to preserve the quality of Inpari 32 rice seeds during storage. Conducted at the Food and Horticultural Plant Seed Supervision and Certification Unit in East Java from November 2023 to April 2024, the research used a factorial experiment in a completely randomized design (CRD) with three replications. Harvest age treatments were 110, 120, 130, and 140 days after seedling (DAS), while packaging types included plastic sacks, polyethylene (PE) sacks, polypropylene (PP) sacks, and aluminium foil. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a 5% significance level. Results showed that harvesting at 120 DAS with PP sacks yielded the highest starch content, while 140 DAS with aluminium foil resulted in the lowest reducing sugar content. Optimal germination and growth speed were achieved at 130 DAS, which also minimized electrical conductivity. Harvesting at 140 DAS produced the highest 1000-grain weight. Aluminium foil packaging maintained the lowest moisture content and significantly improved germination and growth speed compared to other packaging types. These findings suggest that optimizing harvest age and packaging type can significantly improve seed viability and storage performance.

Abstract

Lettuce is a type of vegetable plant that is consumed by the wide community. Hydroponic lettuce cultivation has become an alternative as land area decreases as a result of land-use conversion. This research aims to determine lettuce growth which is influenced by the type of planting media and nutrient discharge. This study was conducted at the Greenhouse Emak Farm and Hidroponik Wadungasri, Waru District, Sidoarjo Regency, East Java, adopting a Split Plot Design with the main plot of nutrient solution discharge (L) consisting of 3 levels, namely L1 = 1.5 L/min; L2 = 2 L/min; L3 = 2.5 L/min. The subplot is the planting media (M) consisting of 4 types, namely M₁ = rockwool; M₂ = rice husk charcoal; M₃ = cocopeat; M₄ = fern. The observed variables comprised leaf number, leaf area, plant height, stem diameter, total plant biomass, stem and leaf biomass, root biomass, harvest index, and plant age. The results indicated that the combination of fern-based growing media and a nutrient solution flow rate of 1.5 L/min produced the most favorable outcomes for all measured parameters, with the exception of the harvest index. Nutrient flow rate of 1.5 L/min was recommended for hydroponic using fern growing media.

Abstract

Sunflower (Hellianthus annuus L.) has high economic value due to its great potential in industry. High market demand causes the need for intensification in sunflower cultivation to increase production and seed quality. This study aims to determine the right dosage and time of paclobutrazol application in suppressing growth and increasing the yield of sunflower plants. The research was conducted in Dohoagung Village, Balongpanggang District, Gresik Regency from May to September 2024. This research used a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 2 factors, namely dose and application time. The two treatments resulted in 12 combinations, each of which was repeated three times. The results of the analysis of variance were further tested with the 5% HSD test.  The results show that the combination of paclobutrazol dosage of 0.3 g/plant and application time of 4 WAP gives the best results on plant growth (plant height and stem diameter). The single treatment of paclobutrazol dosage of 0.2 g/plant gave the best results on flower diameter, number of seeds, total seed weight and 100 seed weight. A single treatment of paclobutrazol application time at 4 WAP produced the best plant growth and increased flower diameter.

Abstract

National melon production remains suboptimal due to the crop’s sensitivity to the environment and lack of management practices. This study analyzed the interaction between GA₃ concentration (0, 50, 100, 150 ppm) and application timing (pre-anthesis, anthesis, post-anthesis) on growth, yield, and fruit quality of Fujisawa melon in an NFT hydroponic system. Significant concentration × timing interactions (p<0.05) optimized fruit traits at 100 ppm + anthesis: weight increased by 0.49 kg (24.1%) to 2.03 kg, flesh thickness by 1.33 cm (25.7%) to 5.17 cm, diameter by 1.79 cm (10.9%) to 16.38 cm, and volume by 413 cm³ (21.2%) to 1,950 cm³ vs. control. Regardless of timing, 100 ppm GA₃ accelerated flowering (2.71 days) and harvest (3.87 days) vs. control and increased total soluble solids by 2.33 to 16.33ºBrix. Pre-anthesis application enhanced plant length by 8.57–9.41 cm and hastened flowering by 0.87–0.99 days compared to other timings. Leaf number and fruit cavity were unaffected by either treatment (p>0.05). The regression for fruit traits at anthesis (R²=0.74–0.85) confirmed optimum concentrations of 67.50–138.50 ppm; ≥150 ppm diminished benefits. These findings provide recommendations: 100 ppm GA₃ at anthesis maximizes yield components, 75 ppm at flexible times increases sweetness levels.

Abstract

Background: Dendrobium orchids have high economic value (in 2020 generated an export value of US$61.87 thousand), yet micropropagated seedlings commonly exhibit slow growth and high mortality during the acclimatization stage. This problem is largely associated with the use of unsuitable planting media and inadequate nutrient supply, which limit seedling adaptation and survival after tissue culture. This study aims to determine the best combination of planting media and foliar fertilizer types for the growth of Dendrobium orchid seedlings during the acclimatization stage. Methodology: The study was conducted in Penambangan Village, Semanding District, Tuban Regency, East Java Province from November 2024 to February 2025 using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 9 treatment combinations and 4 replications. The first factor was the treatment of planting media types (M1: Black Moss, M2: Rice Husk Charcoal, M3: Cocopeat), and the second factor was the type of foliar fertilizer (P1: Gandasil D, P2: Gaviota 63, P3: Grow Quick LB). The observed research variables included the percentage of live seedlings, plant height, leaf area, seedling growth rate, number of shoots, and number of roots. Findings: The results showed that the use of cocopeat planting media resulted in the highest percentage of seedling survival at 88.33%. The combination of cocopeat planting media and Grow Quick LB leaf fertilizer produced the best relative growth rate (RGR) at 8-12 WAP of 41.22 mg/month.This research produces the best combination of planting media and foliar fertilizer for orchid seedlings at the acclimatization stage. Contribution: The findings contribute to a more systematic understanding of how substrate physical properties and foliar nutrient supply interact to influence survival and growth performance during orchid acclimatization, offering a scientifically grounded framework for improving ex vitro propagation efficiency

Abstract

Avocado is a fruit crop that is commercial and potential to be widely cultivated. Market demand for avocado was increased so production of avocado seed must increase too by grafting. The problem of grafting is often found in the connection between scion and rootstock that showed like elephant foot phenomenon, so it was necessary to study the linkage process between scion and rootstock. This research leads up to an increased percentage of finished graft seedlings that were ready for planting in the field. This method used a factorial experiment consisting of 2 factors. The first factor was the stages of entres (flushing, endodormancy, and ecodormancy), and the second factor was the grafting method (cleft graft, wedge graft, and splice graft). The research design used Complete Randomized Design with 4 replications and ANOVA with BNJ 5% test. The results showed all observations parameters interacted. Stage ecodormancy in splice graft resulted of vascular tissue (xylem and phloem) between scion and rootstock recovered better than other combination treatments by producing the best-grafted avocado seedlings growth with an increased percentage of grafted seedling by 42.50%, an interval of flushing by 4.91 days, and increased frequency of flushing by 1.83 times compared to stage flushing in cleft graft.
