Abstract

Mathematics is a subject that is often considered difficult to learn and teach, especially arithmetic operations on integers. This material plays an important role because it is a basic concept that students must master as a foundation for learning subsequent mathematics materials. However, in reality, many students at the junior high school (SMP) level experience difficulties in understanding this material. One of the causes is the use of inappropriate learning media. To overcome this problem, researchers developed an innovation in the form of ZUZO learning e-media that integrates local culture by utilizing traditional Palembang cake as a learning illustration medium. This study aims to determine the level of validity of ZUZO learning e-media based on traditional Palembang cake. The research subjects were 20 respondents from grade VII junior high school students at SMP Muhammadiyah 6 Palembang. The e-media development process refers to the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) Development and Research model, but this study was limited to the product development stage. In the analysis stage, researchers conducted direct observations in the field to identify difficulties experienced by students and found that the learning media used was not yet effective. Based on these findings, researchers designed an initial design of learning media that was relevant to students' needs. During the development phase, the ZUZO e-learning media design, based on traditional Palembang cake, was realized using interactive technology. This product was then validated by experts. The validation results showed that the ZUZO e-learning media met the "very valid" criteria. It is suitable for use as a teaching aid for integer arithmetic operations in junior high schools due to its content, appearance, and presentation.

Abstract

Metacognitive ability and learning style are two crucial aspects that influence the success of students learning processes. Although they differ conceptually, both are interrelated and interact in determining learning effectiveness. This study aims to explore the relationship between metacognitive ability and learning style, as well as to evaluate whether metacognitive ability corresponds proportionally with learning style. The method used in this research is literature analysis. By collecting and analyzing various relevant studies, the researcher investigates the relationship between metacognitive ability and learning style, both conceptually and practically. The analysis results reveal a positive correlation between metacognitive ability and learning style. Students with higher metacognitive ability tend to be more aware of their own learning styles and are more effective in managing learning strategies according to their preferences. However, the relationship between the two is complex, as it is also influenced by other factors such as prior learning experiences, motivation levels, and the surrounding learning environment. In conclusion, metacognitive ability plays a significant role in helping students understand and optimize their respective learning styles. Nevertheless, although metacognitive ability may assist in understanding and applying students’ learning styles, the relationship between the two is not always linear or proportional. Therefore, a holistic understanding of the student learning process requires an in-depth comprehension of both aspects.

Abstract

Developing students' critical thinking skills and improving cognitive learning outcomes remain essential goals in mathematics education. This study aimed to examine the implementation and effectiveness of the Inquiry Learning model in enhancing students' critical thinking abilities and understanding of prism and pyramid concepts. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach using the Kemmis and McTaggart (1988) spiral model, consisting of four stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The study was conducted in two cycles involving 27 students of class IX B at MTs Muqimus Sunnah Palembang. The learning process integrated inquiry-based instruction supported by Student Worksheets (LKPD). Findings indicated a significant improvement in students’ cognitive learning outcomes. By the end of the second cycle, 81.48% of students achieved the minimum mastery criteria, reflecting increased understanding of geometric concepts. Observational data also revealed enhanced student engagement and active participation. The Inquiry Learning model effectively promoted critical thinking through student-led problem exploration, hypothesis formulation, and data analysis. The success of the Inquiry Learning model was attributed to its student-centered approach, which encouraged active learning and deeper conceptual understanding. Students demonstrated improved reasoning and problem-solving skills as a result of engaging with real learning challenges. The application of the Inquiry Learning model, supported by structured worksheets, effectively improved both critical thinking skills and cognitive learning outcomes in geometry. This model is recommended for broader implementation in similar educational contexts.

Abstract

Mathematical problem-solving ability is an essential competency that enables students to apply mathematical concepts in real-life situations. However, many students still encounter difficulties when solving fraction word problems, particularly those involving contextual and religiously relevant situations. This study aimed to investigate the problem-solving abilities of Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) students in solving fraction word problems integrated with Mawaris (Islamic inheritance) contexts. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed involving 22 ninth-grade students of MTs Muqimus Sunnah. Data were collected through problem-solving tests, interviews, and documentation and were analyzed based on four indicators of problem solving: understanding the problem, devising a plan, carrying out the plan, and interpreting the results. The findings showed that 27.27% of students were categorized as having high problem-solving ability, 45.45% moderate ability, and 27.27% low ability. Students performed best in understanding the problem and carrying out the solution plan (72.73%), while interpreting the results was the weakest indicator (36.36%). Difficulties mainly arose in translating contextual information into mathematical models, performing fraction operations accurately, and relating solutions to the Mawaris context. The study concludes that integrating Mawaris into fraction learning provides meaningful contextualization and can support the development of students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities while strengthening Islamic values.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the level of learning motivation among MTs students toward the use of Snake and Ladder Game media based on Palembang ethnomathematics in mathematics learning for Grade VIIA. This study employed a quantitative descriptive approach involving 20 MTs students in December 2025. The research instrument was a five-point Likert scale questionnaire consisting of 25 statement items, which had been tested for validity using Pearson correlation and for reliability using Cronbach’s Alpha, with a reliability coefficient of 0.82. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics with the assistance of SPSS. The results showed a total score of 1650 out of a maximum score of 2000, with a percentage of 82.5%, which falls into the very high category. The dominant indicators of learning motivation included learning interest at 85%, self-confidence at 82%, curiosity at 80%, appreciation at 78%, and learning goals at 75%. These findings indicate that the use of Snake and Ladder Game media based on Palembang ethnomathematics, which integrates the geometry of songket motifs, the arithmetic context of the 16 Ilir market, and the cultural context of the Ampera Bridge, shows potential to support interactive, contextual, and enjoyable mathematics learning. The findings also suggest that this media can serve as a learning alternative that is relevant to students’ characteristics, particularly in supporting learning motivation through local cultural contexts. The implication of this study is that teachers may adapt ethnomathematics-based game media as one of the contextual and culturally integrated strategies in mathematics learning. Future studies are recommended to employ a quasi-experimental design or a mixed-methods approach to examine the effect of the media on students’ motivation and learning outcomes in greater depth.
