Abstract

Rapid digital transformation in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era has shifted academic libraries into digital resource hubs, requiring librarians to adapt their competencies to meet the ever-evolving demands. This study is urgently needed to explore how the digital competency gap among librarians affects the effectiveness of library services in the digital era. This study aimed to measure the transformation of Universitas Negeri Padang Librarians in Industry 4.0. The research method used a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, combining a cross-sectional survey of all 26 UNP librarians with follow-up in-depth interviews. The competencies assessed included device and software operation, information and data literacy, communication and collaboration, digital content creation, security, problem-solving, and self-development. Results showed that librarians excelled in basic skills such as ensuring internet connectivity (M = 7.08, SD = 1.055) and maintaining ethical digital communication (M = 6.85, SD = 1.190). However, challenges persisted in advanced areas such as software troubleshooting (M = 5.96, SD = 1.509) and creating innovative digital solutions to improve patron experience (M = 4.85, SD = 1.736). Interviews revealed a high dependency on technical support, limiting librarians’ independence in solving technical problems. The findings underscored the need for targeted training in problem-solving, digital innovation, and advanced application use, supported by improved infrastructure and access to sophisticated tools. This study concludes that improving the digital competencies of librarians is essential to support sustainable digital library services and strengthen the development of library science in Indonesia.

Abstract

The management of inactive dynamic archives at the Padang District Court Class 1A already has procedures that include recording, controlling, distributing, storing, maintaining, supervising, transferring, and destroying archives. However, there are challenges in the form of limited storage capacity and less than optimal maintenance of archives. In addition, the absence of implementation of archive reduction and destruction has resulted in the accumulation of unused archives. Effective and systematic archive management is needed so that information and physical archives are maintained, supporting archive information services. Currently, the Padang District Court Class 1A only provides file boxes to store inactive archives that are lying in piles.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of open access models, particularly Diamond Open Access (OA), and SINTA rankings on the submission-to-publication duration of accredited humanities journals in Indonesia. It also addresses a notable gap in existing literature regarding publication waiting times within the Indonesian humanities context. Employing a quantitative ex post facto design, the study analyzes a sample of 100 SINTA-accredited humanities journals that published articles in 2024. Submission-to-publication durations (calculated as the number of days between submission and final publication) were extracted using an AI-assisted metadata retrieval tool (Gemini). A total of 2,489 eligible articles were identified. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and one-way ANOVA to determine the effects of the independent variables. The findings show that the median submission-to-publication time for Indonesian humanities journals is 125.67 days, with substantial variability ranging from 0 to 991 days. The Diamond OA model does not significantly affect publication duration (Sig. > 0.05), indicating that author-fee-free access does not inherently lengthen editorial processes. Conversely, SINTA rankings show a significant effect (Sig. < 0.05), with journals in higher SINTA tiers tending to have longer publication timelines. This study provides timely empirical evidence regarding factors that shape publication efficiency in Indonesia’s humanities journals—an area previously underexplored. The methodological use of AI for metadata extraction also represents an important contribution. These findings offer practical insights for authors selecting suitable publication venues and for journal publishers seeking to enhance the efficiency of their editorial workflows.
