Abstract

With more than half of the city's settlements located in riverside areas, it is important to know the causes of fires and the spread of the flames so that they can be avoided. In order to explore this, research was conducted on 9 fire cases that occurred in riverside settlements in Banjarmasin city, consisting of 4 cases of single fires and 5 cases of group fires. The research was conducted using the case study method through data collection in the form of literature review, in-depth interviews with resource persons, and direct observation. Based on the research conducted, it was found that the factors that caused the fires in these cases were electrical ort-circuit, cigarette embers, cooking fuel, and littering. Electrical short-circuit itself was the most common cause of fires in the cases studied, while the other three factors were specific to this research location. Regarding the causes of the spread of flames during a fire, it was found that there are 12 factors that cause the spread of flames. 5 of these 12 factors are common in other regions in Indonesia, such as combustible materials inside and around the house, semi-permanent building structures, building density where the distance between buildings is close together, minimal accessibility, and wind conditions. Meanwhile, the specific fire spread factors that occur in the riverside settlements of Banjarmasin city are electricity that is extinguished late by PLN, fires that are difficult to reach, fires that are difficult to extinguish, the same electricity flow in more than one building, gas explosions and motorbikes, receding rivers, and problematic fire extinguishing equipment.

Abstract

Abstract: Kampung Mojo is one of the settlements in Surakarta City where the KOTAKU (City Without Slums) program is implemented. This initiative aims to improve the quality of basic infrastructure in slum areas, thereby reducing slum conditions. The program has redesigned the settlements by clear boundaries within residential areas, including the organization of residential layouts, plot arrangements, street spaces, and open spaces. During observations in September 2023, a notable phenomenon emerged regarding how residents use the outdoor spaces of their houses, such as alleys, streets, and leftover land, to accommodate personal and social activities. This research aims to identify the forms and patterns of territorial expansion within residential areas, providing valuable insights for future space management in Kampung Mojo following infrastructure upgrades. The study employs a qualitative approach, with primary data collected through direct observation and interviews at the research site, followed by descriptive analysis. Findings indicate that territorial expansion is a response to the limited available space, where residents utilize surrounding spaces to meet personal needs and create spaces for social gatherings. Keywords: Expansion, Settlements, Post Upgrading Abstrak: Kampung Mojo adalah salah satu kawasan lokasi penanganan KOTAKU (Kota Tanpa Kumuh) di Kota Surakarta. Abstract

The city of Pekanbaru has experienced an uncontrolled increase in population, leading to the creation of slum settlements. The construction of low-cost apartments (rusunawa) has emerged as a potential solution to address the ambiguity in urban planning regarding housing for low-income residents. Pekanbaru has several rusunawa, but only two are specifically designated for low-income residents: Rejosari rusunawa and Yos Sudarso rusunawa. Over five years of operation, Yos Sudarso rusunawa has shown an occupancy rate of less than 50%, indicating the low perception among Pekanbaru's low-income residents about moving to the rusunawa and their preference to remain inadequate housing. This study is deemed necessary to understand the perceptions and factors influencing the perceptions of low-income residents so that the existing rusunawa can function properly. The research employs a descriptive quantitative method. The quantitative method uses statistical tests in SPSS, employing Spearman's rho correlation analysis to examine the relationship between factors and perception, followed by ordinal logistic regression analysis to identify the most influential factors on the perception of living in Yos Sudarso rusunawa. The study on perception of low-income residents towards Yos Sudarso rusunawa in Pekanbaru found that their perception is generally negative. Several factors influence perception of low-income residents towards Yos Sudarso rusunawa, namely economic factors (affordability) and the physical condition of the rusunawa. The physical condition of the rusunawa is the primary factor affecting the perception of low-income residents, with a significant value of 0.005, followed by the affordability of rental prices, which has a significant value of 0.029.

Abstract

Temporary housing for beneficiaries of the Housing Development Program in the slum area of Kelurahan Bira Makassar is interesting to study because its fulfillment is pursued independently by target households. This research aims to understand their preferences for temporary housing during the development process. This research uses the grounded theory method with a content analysis approach and open coding technique. The results show that preferences for temporary housing include: (1) space needs such as bedrooms, toilets, and kitchens; (2) locations close to places of worship, health facilities, village offices, and permanent housing construction locations; and (3) free from rental fees. Beneficiary priority preferences include basic domestic needs that are short-term in nature. Understanding these preferences is important in designing settlements that are more suited to local needs based on the wishes and needs of residents.

Abstract

Pontianak City has six housing that have been built and inhabited. It is interesting to see the use of the housing by the occupants. There is a fact that the circulation route of Harapan Jaya Housing is not fully utilized according to plan. The purpose of this research is to reveal which of these circulation pathways are used by the occupants and identifying potential circulation pathways. The research focuses on circulation issues, which connectivity between areas has succeeded in supporting the occupants’s activities. The data collection method was carried out by field observations and interviews with the occupants to confirm the observations results. The analysis method uses depthmapX-space syntax software with an axial map to determine the level of connectivity and integration that occurs. This study also simulated the addition of alternative circulation pathways. The results indicate that the addition of circulation paths can improve connectivity within the housing area. Efficient and functional connectivity in housing can use two models of circulation path, namely linear or grid.
