Abstract

The study was conducted to investigate the in vitro antibacterial activity and antioxidant-enhancing effect of Bacillus strains isolated from the rumen content of dairy cows. The antibacterial activity of Bacillus strains was assessed against Escherichia colibased on the agar-well diffusion method. To assess the antioxidant-enhancing effect, the Bacillusstrains was mixed (prepared as multi-strains) and used to ferment herbal medicine waste (HMW). The effect was compared with that of commercial probiotic Bacillus subtilis and non fermented HWM. Results showed that each Bacillus strain was able to inhibit the growth of E. coli. Fermentation with mixed Bacillus strains tended (P=0.07) to enhance the 2,2-diphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals scavenging activity and total phenolics content of HMW. In contrast, fermentation with commercial Bacillus subtilis tended (P=0.07) to decrease DPPH radical scavenging activity and total phenol of HMW. Fermentation with both Bacillus preparations increased (P<0.05) the contents of crude protein and ash in HMW, while crude fat increased  (P<0.05) in HMW fermented with Bacillus subtilis. Fermentation either with Bacillus subtilis or mixed Bacillus strains increased (P<0.05) the fiber content of HMW. In conclusion, Bacillus strains isolated from the rumen content of dairy cows showed antibacterial activity and antioxidant-enhancing effect, therefore, they are potential as feed additive to substitute synthetic antibiotics and antioxidants for broilers raised under tropical conditions.

Abstract

The study investigated the influence of dietary incorporation of formic acid, butyric acid or their blends on growth rate, haematological indices and intestinal morphometric of broilers. A number of 240 Lohmann MB-202 chicks were pass rounded to four dietary groups, including CONT (chicks taking in basal feed with no additive), BTRT (chicks receiving basal feed with 0.03% butyric acid), FRMT (chicks receiving basal feed with 0.1% formic acid) and BTRT+FRMT (chicks receiving basal feed containing 0.03% butyric acid and 0.1% formic acid). Weight of chicks and intake were measured every week, while blood sample was collected at day 21 and 35. At day 35, birds were slaughtered and small intestinal segments and digesta were collected. At day 21, body weight was bigger (P<0.05) in BTRT+FRMT than in other birds. Feeding the blends of formic and butyric acids resulted in higher (P<0.05) value of mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (MCHC) at day 21. Feeding organic acids was associated with the lower (P<0.05) proportion of thrombocytes in broilers at day 35. Supplementation of butyric acid resulted in higher (P<0.05) serum albumin concentration at day 35. Butyric acid produced higher (P<0.05) levels of triglyceride as well as low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in the serum. The mixture of formic and butyric acids resulted in higher (P<0.05) titer of antibody against Newcastle disease vaccine (NDV) at day 21. Feeding formic acid decreased (P<0.05) ileal population of lactose negative enterobacteria at day 35. Overall, dietary supplementation of the blends of formic and butyric acids resulted in improved growth and immune defence of broiler chicks.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukanuntuk mengetahui hematologipada ayam buras super yang diberi perlakuan frekuensi pemberian pakan dan periode pemberian pakan. Materi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu252 ekor anak ayam buras super unsex dengan rata – rata bobot badan 37,88  1,98 g (CV : 5,02%). Penelitian menggunakan pakan komersial dari PT Charoen Pokphand, periode starter B11S dan periode finisher B12S. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan split plot dengan main plot 3 frekuensi pemberian pakan dan sub plot 3 taraf periode pemberian pakan dengan 4 ulangan sehingga menggunakan 36 unit percobaan, masing-masing unit percobaan berisi 7 ekor. Perlakuan yang dilakukan adalah : faktor F frekuensi pemberian pakan (1x/hari, 2x/hari, 3x/hari) dan faktor Pperiode pemberian pakan (14 jam, 16 jam, dan 18 jam). Data penelitian yang diperoleh kemudian di analisis ragam menggunakan uji F dengan taraf 5% dan dilanjutkan uji Duncan untuk data yang berbeda nyata. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan periode berpengaruh nyata (p<0,05) terhadap kadar glukosa darah, terdapat pengaruhinteraksi  antarafrekuensi pemberian pakan dengan periode pemberian pakan (p<0,05) terhadap rasio H/L, tidak ada pengaruh interaksi (p<0,05) frekuensi dan periode pemberian pakan serta masing masing faktor tidak berpengaruh terhadap hemoglobin, eritrosit dan leukosit.Kata Kunci : Frekuensi, Periode, Hematologi, Ayam Buras Super

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui waktu-waktu dimana ayam membutuhkan pakan melalui perbaikan manajemen pakan dengan frekuensi (F) dan periode (P) pemberian pakan. Penelitian ini menggunakan 252 ekor ayam buras super umur 1 hari dengan bobot awal rata – rata 37,88 ± 1,89 gram. Pakan yang digunakan adalah pakan komersil. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan split plot, dimana main plot berupa frekunsi pemberian pakan (1 kali/hari, 2 kali/hari dan 3 kali/hari) dan sub plot berupa periode pemberian pakan (14jam, 16jam dan 18jam) sehingga seluruhnya terdapat 36 kombinasi perlakuan. Parameter yang diukur meliputi bobot relatif organ limfoid (timus, limpa, bursa fabricius dan hati). Data yang diperoleh diamati keragamannya pada taraf 5%.Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa tidak ada pengaruh frekuensi dan periode pemberian pakan terhadap bobot relatif limpa, timus dan bursa fabrisius. Kesimpulan penelitian ini bahwa frekuensi dan periode pemberian pakan tidak meningkatkan bobot relatif organ limfoid.

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh penggunaan aditif kunyit terhadap bobot relatif organ pencernaan ayam kampung super.Penelitian dilaksanakan pada tanggal 10 September 2017 sampai 10 November 2017 di Fakultas Peternakan dan Pertanian Universitas Diponegoro. Ayam kampung super yang digunakan dalam penelitian yaitu Day Old Chick (DOC) yang diproduksi oleh PT. Tirto Hartono, Sleman, Yogyakarta sebanyak 200 ekor. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah rancangan acak lengkap, dengan 5 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan, sehingga ada 25 unit percobaan, setiap 1 pen diisi 8 ekor ayam kampung super. Perlakuan yang digunakan adalah : T0 = Ayam kampung super tanpa diberi aditif kunyit, T1 = Ayam kampung super diberi aditif perasan air kunyit dalam air minum  1:3, T2 = Ayam kampung super diberi aditif tepung kunyit dalam ransum 0,5%, T3 = Ayam kampung super diberi aditif fermentasi ampas kunyit dalam ransum 0,5%, T4 = ayam kampung super diberi aditif ampas kunyit dalam ransum 0,5%. Parameter yang diamati adalah bobot relatif organ pencernaan. Apabila uji keragaman berbeda nyata, maka dilanjutkan dengan uji Duncan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian aditif kunyit terhadap bobot relatif organ pencernaan pada ransum ayam kampung super berpengaruh nyata (P<0,05) pada rataan bobot relatif proventrikulus tetapi tidak berpengaruh nyata pada rataan bobot relatif organ pencernaan gizzard, hati, duodenum, jejunum, ileum dan sekum. Kesimpulan hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa pemberian aditif kunyit baik dicampur pakan maupun air minum dapat meningkatkan rataan bobot relatif proventrikulus tetapi tidak meningkatkan rataan bobot relatif gizzard, hati, duodenum, jejunum, ileum dan sekum.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan jamu dalam ration terhadap profil darah putih dalam darah ayam petelur ditinjau dari total leukosit dan diferensial leukosit antara lain limfosit, eosinofil dan neutrofil. Materi yang digunakan adalah 40 ekor ayam petelur strain Lohmann Brown fase layer umur 40 minggu dengan lama pemeliharaan 30 hari. Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan 4 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan. Perlakuan yang diberikan yaitu T0 = ayam petelur tidak diberi tambahan jamu dalam ration, T1 = ayam petelur diberi tambahan jamu dalam ration 0,5%, T2 = ayam petelur diberi tambahan jamu dalam ration 1% dan T3 = ayam petelur diberi tambahan jamu dalam ration 1,5%. Parameter yang diamati adalah leukosit dan differensial leukosit antara lain heterofil, eusinofil dan limfosit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan jamu dalam ration tidak berpengaruh terhadap jumlah leukosit dan differensial leukosit. Perlakuan T0, T1, T2 dan T3 menunjukkan jumlah rata – rata leukosit masing – masing 31,30, 35,70, 38,00, dan 38,40 (×103/µL), limfosit masing – masing 25,10, 29,00, 30,70 dan 31,80 (×103/µL), eosinofil masing – masing 1,90, 2,20, 2,60 dan 2,80 (×103/µL), dan neutrofil masing – masing 4,00, 4,30, 4,50 dan 4,50 (×103/µL). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah penambahan jamu dalam ration ayam petelur dapat menjaga kesehatan tubuh ayam petelur yang ditandai dengan total leukosit, limfosit dan eosinofil yang tinggi namun masih dalam kondisi normal dan jumlah heterofil yang stabil.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh suplementasi mineral seng (Zn), Selenium (Se) dan Magnesium (Mg) terhadap dinamika profil hematologi selama fase estrus Rusa Timor. Manfaat dari penelitian ini adalah memberikan informasi kepada penangkar bahwa pemberian suplementasi mineral dapat meningkatkan kadar eritrosit, kadar hemoglobin dan nilai hematokrit sehingga memperbaiki dinamika dari estrogen sehingga dapat memperbaiki kualitas berahi pada Rusa Timor. Perlakuan diberikan berupa suplementasi mineral pada 5 ekor rusa (T1) dan tanpa suplementasi mineral (T0) selama 8 minggu, dan dilanjutkan dengan pemasangan spon MPA selama 16 hari untuk dilakukan sinkronisasi berahi. Sampel darah diambil secara berurutan pada jam ke - 0, ke-24, ke-72, ke-84, ke-96, ke-108, ke-120 dan ke-144 setelah pencabutan spon MPA untuk dilakukan pengamatan profil hematologi. Paremeter yang diukur meliputi jumlah eritrosit, kadar hemoglobin dan nilai hematokrit darah. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan Uji-T. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perbedaanperbedaan nyata (P?0,05) total eritrosit pada jam ke -72 serta sangat nyata (P?0,01) pada jam ke- 96, 108 dan 120. Terdapat perbedaan nyata (P?0,05) kadar hemoglobin pada jam ke- 108. Perbedaan nyata (P?0,05) nilai hematokrit pada jam ke- 0, 24, 72, 84 dan 96 serta perbedaan sangat nyata (P?0,01) terjadi pada jam ke- 120.Kata kunci : Profil hematologi, Rusa Timor, Mineral

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of cassava pulp fermented with Rhizopus oryzae on the total leucocyte and differential leucocyte and its influence on the health of broiler chickens. The study was conducted in July-September 2015. The material used was 275 DOC of broiler with average of initial weight 55 g. Ration ingredient used were corn, rice bran, soybean meal, fish meal, poultry meat meal and fermented cassava pulp. The experiment used a completely randomized design (CRD) comprised of 5 treatments and 5 replications. Treatment ration consist of T0 (control ration), T1 (8% cassava pulp without fermentation), T2 (8% cassava pulp fermented with Rhizopus oryzae), T3 (16% cassava pulp fermented with Rhizopus oryzae) and T4 (24% cassava pulp fermented with Rhizopus oryzae). The result of the study showed that there was no influence among treatments (P>0,05) of the use of cassava pulp fermented with Rhizopus oryzae in ration to total leucocyte and differential leucocycte. It is concluded that cassava pulp fermented with Rhizopus oryzae in ration is potential to substitute the use of corn in ration without compromising the health and amount of total leucocyte and differential leucocyte. Keywords: Rhizopus oryzae, leuycocyte, differential leucocyte, broiler

Abstract

The purpose of this research was todetermine the effect of Curcuma Aeruginosa Roxb.(C. Aeruginosa) powder addition on serum lipid (total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglycerides) and productivity of Peking duck. The material of the study were one hundred and twenty peking ducks aged 2 days old  with initial body weight ± 65 g. The experiment applied a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 4 replications. Each replication consisted of 6 ducks. The treatment consisted of T0 = 0% C. Aeruginosa powder, T1 = 0.75% C. aeruginosa powder, T2 = 1% C. aeruginosa powder, T3= 1.25% C. aeruginosa powder and T4 = 1.5% C. aeruginosa powder. Comercial diet with 23% protein was given from day 2 to day 14 while day 15 ducks were given diet with 17.5% protein and 3029.7 kcal/kg metabolic energy. Curcuma aeruginosa powder was given on day 25 to day 57. Daily consumption was recorded and body weight was recorded once a week. Both samples were taken on day 57. The data were processed by ANOVA at P= 0.05. The results showed that addition of 1.25% C.Aeruginosa powder (T3) had the lowest consumption, higher body weight and body weight gain (BWG) with lowest feed conversion. Curcuma aeruginosa powder only affected significantly the HDL. All groups with C. aeruginosa addition showed higher HDL than control group. It can be concluded that addition of 1,25% (T3) C. Aeruginosa powder will produced the highest serum HDL, and provide better productivity. Keywords: C. aureginosa, Peking duck and serum lipid

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the effect of boiled turmeric water on the number of leukocyte and differentiation leukocyte of broilers. The study was conducted in Oktober - November 2016. The material used was 200Day Old Chick  (DOC)  of broiler with initial weight 41.48 ± 0.99 g. Feed used was a commercial feed with code B-11S to phase stater and BR-1AJ for the finisher phase and turmeric. The design used in this study was completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 5 replicates containing 8 DOC in each. The treatment consisted of T0 (100% water), T1 (75% water + 25% boiled turmeric water), T2 (50% water + 50% boiled turmeric water), T3 (25% water + 75% boiled turmeric water), T4 (100% boiled turmeric water).The results showed that boiled turmeric water give significantly affect the percentage of lymphocytes and eosinophils (P<0,05), but did not significantly affect the total number of leukocytes, percentage of heterophile and monocytes (P>0,05). The conclusion from this study is that the boiled turmeric water in the drinking water of broilers was able to improve white blood profile, that indicated by the number of leukocyte and percentage of lymphocytes and eosinophils. Keywords: Turmeric, leuycocyte, differential leucocyte, broiler
