Abstract

The community service program "SERITA: Happy Library School" was carried out at SDN 1 Mesanggok, Lombok, aiming to address challenges in students' literacy. Although awareness of literacy in West Nusa Tenggara continues to grow, obstacles still persist, such as low reading interest, limited reading materials, and unattractive facilities. Through the Student Creativity Program (PKM) of the University of Mataram, the SERITA program introduced a colorful reading corner designed to stimulate students’ interest in reading. The program engaged students, teachers, parents, and the community in creating a sustainable culture of literacy. The results showed an increase in students’ interest in reading, particularly in fiction books, with additional benefits including social interaction and the development of creativity. Ongoing collaboration between schools and the community is recommended for the long-term success of this literacy initiative.

Abstract

The results of a preliminary study conducted through a survey of 104 respondents showed that the majority of them (90.4%) had never developed comic-based media. This was due to difficulties in writing the story script (26%), creating character illustrations (74%), and combining story writing with illustration (12%). A total of 65% encountered obstacles in scriptwriting, 35% faced difficulties in drawing, and 10% experienced challenges in both areas. Therefore, we organized an activity entitled “Workshop on the Development of Comic-Based Learning Media Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Prospective Primary School Teachers.” The methods applied in this activity included a combination of lectures, Q&A sessions, demonstrations, and hands-on practice in developing AI-based comic media. The goal of this community service activity was to improve the knowledge and skills of prospective primary school teachers in developing AI-based comic learning media. The workshop, held on July 20, 2024, was carried out smoothly. The participants consisted of 23 students from the PGMI Program at UIN Mataram, with 65.2% female and 34.8% male. Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the understanding of Mitra Elementary School teachers in Mataram City regarding the concept and application of the Multiple Intelligences approach in the learning process. Multiple intelligences developed by Howard Gardner emphasizes that each individual has various types of unique intelligences and can be optimally developed through appropriate learning strategies. However, the use of this approach is still limited in elementary school environments, especially in the planning and implementation of learning that is centered on student potential. Through this socialization activity, teachers are given an understanding of the eight types of multiple intelligences, their characteristics, and learning strategies that are appropriate for each intelligence. The method of implementing the activity is in the form of lectures, interactive discussions, and simple case studies. The evaluation results show that this activity has succeeded in increasing participants' insight into the diversity of student potential and the importance of differentiation of learning strategies. It is hoped that this activity will be the first step for teachers to be more adaptive and innovative in developing inclusive learning that is oriented towards the uniqueness of each student.

Abstract

The application of social distancing by the government has a significant impact on learning activities in tertiary institutions. Colleges divert class meetings with online meetings in networking and home assignments. This study aims to describe the variation of models and platforms used in online learning for prospective teachers during the social distancing period. This research was conducted through a survey and focus group discussion (FGD) conducted online to obtain information about the implementation of learning, applications used, constraints during learning, how to deliver material, and the number of meetings held weekly. Survey data and FGDs obtained were analyzed descriptively. The survey results show that all lecturers carry out online learning during the COVID-19 prevention period. Most lecturers organize learning and discussion through social media applications such as WhatsApp. Submission of material is mostly done by sharing files through WhatsApp messages and other social media. The most common obstacle that arises during the implementation of online learning is the limited internet access by lecturers and student teacher candidates. Learning is carried out in both categories with an average number of online meetings twice a week according to the credits of each lecture.
