Abstract

This study aims to determine the socio-cultural and religious resilience index in Sumbawa Regency through social, cultural, and religious life indicators, as well as to determine the role of key stakeholders in facilitating the realization of this resilience. The design is a mixture of quantitative and qualitative research. Quantitative research includes data collection through a public perception questionnaire about the resilience indicators. Qualitative research includes the use of documentation, informal interviews and observations to explore the roles of key stakeholders in facilitating the realization of resilience in the regency. The study results show that the social, cultural, and religious resilience index in Sumbawa Regency recorded a score of 80.1 (high), indicating good and controlled conditions. The two dimensions with a very high category are religious tolerance (84.1) and equality in religion (83.1), while the others are in the high category, namely the social dimension (76.1), culture (78.5), and cooperation between religious communities (78.6). They indicate that all dimensions of resilience have room to improve to achieve optimal scores. The key stakeholders are vital in realizing socio-cultural and religious resilience in Sumbawa Regency. The collaboration and involvement of various group representatives in implementing activities contribute to realizing resilience in a pluralistic society in Sumbawa Regency.

Abstract

This article argues that ensuring university graduates that are qualified and professional is imperative. However, since surface approaches to learning seem to still dominate the teaching and learning process in Indonesian higher education, students degree of qualification and professionalism upon graduation, is likely to be superficial and very limited to familiar areas of aplication, and thus it is hard to be transformed for new challenges. For this reason, future development of the teaching and learning process should foster deep approaches to learning. This can take place if the curriculum is learner-centered and competency-based in its true sense. At the end of the paper, some examples of creative teaching and learning processes that might foster deep learning are presented.

Abstract

Political campaign billboards remain a prominent yet under-theorized medium of electoral communication, particularly in emerging democracies. This study investigates how legislative campaign billboards displayed during Indonesia's 2024 general election construct persuasive force through the interaction of speech acts, visual semiotics, and ideological coding. Drawing on speech act theory, social semiotics, visual grammar, and critical discourse analysis, the study analyzes 50 purposively sampled billboards from Sumbawa Regency. Findings reveal systematic cross-modal clustering patterns: directive speech acts align predominantly with religious imagery, commissive acts cluster with nationalist symbolism, and declarative positioning frequently co-occurs with elite proximity. These patterned alignments demonstrate that illocutionary force is not linguistically self-contained but amplified through visual and ideological scaffolding. The article proposes a conceptual framework, Multimodal Illocutionary Amplification (MIA), that models persuasion as a layered process involving an illocutionary core, a semiotic scaffold, compositional structuring, ideological naturalisation, and voter subject positioning. While the framework is analytically transferable, its applicability is bound by regional socio-cultural configurations where religious and community-based patronage remain salient. Grounded in this localized context, the model advances political pragmatics and multimodal discourse studies by explaining how authority is visually performed and normalized in contemporary electoral communication.
