Abstract

Computer-assisted language Learning (CALL) is a learning method that uses computers as auxiliary media to facilitate language learning. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the development of research in Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) in the last five years based on the Scopus database. This quantitative study uses bibliometric analysis with the search keyword Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL). The results of this study highlight a significant increase in the number of articles about Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) indexed by Scopus every year, starting from 142 articles in 2018 and 2023, which increased to 251. The type of publication is dominated by journal articles, followed by conference papers and reviews, and the rest in the form of books or book chapters. The largest source of publications comes from Lecture Notes in Computer Science (including the subseries Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence and Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics) with 29 publications. Our comprehensive analysis reveals a significant downward trend in citations from 2018 to 2023. Furthermore, based on the visualization using VOSviewer shows the use of AI technology in language teaching and the impact of digital media on language learning. The results of this study show that it is essential to continue to review and evaluate the factors influencing the dissemination and acceptance of CALL research. Moreover, it is crucial to reinforce the continuity between technological innovation and practical practice in various areas of life, thereby highlighting the real-world impact of CALL research.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the application of the cooperative learning model of make and match type can improve student learning outcomes in the subject of Indonesian language class V SDN 11 Limboto Barat. The type of research used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of the study were 25 students consisting of 16 female students and 9 male students. Based on the assessment of learning activities in cycle II, there were 25 students who obtained good learning outcomes in understanding reading material, while 12 people obtained fairly good results. The increase in student learning outcomes in this cycle II activity can be seen from the average value achieved by students based on the indicators assessed, the average achieved was in the range of 97 values. In the second cycle, the effectiveness of using the Make A Match method increased, with the average value of student activity reaching 97% and all students successfully meeting the Learning Technical Completion Criteria (KKTP) with an average value of 84.51. However, there are still aspects that need to be improved, such as students' courage to ask questions and active participation in group discussions, which are each at 75%.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the application of flashcard media in improving students' reading comprehension skills in Indonesian language subjects in grade IV of SDN 4 Limboto Barat. The type of research used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is carried out in two cycles. The research subjects are 20 students, consisting of 8 male students and 12 female students. Based on the results of the study after applying flashcard media, where student learning outcomes in cycle I meeting 1, 9 students (45%) completed and 11 students (55%) did not complete, then continued to cycle 1 meeting II where 11 students (55%) completed and 9 students (45%) did not complete. Because it has not achieved learning outcomes in accordance with the provisions, the researcher continued to Cycle II where in cycle II meeting 1, 14 students (70%) completed and 6 students (30%) did not complete. Then continued again in cycle II stage II where in cycle II meeting II, 18 students (90%) completed and 2 students (10%) did not complete. Thus, the application of flashcard media in learning Indonesian language material on short stories can improve the reading comprehension skills of fourth grade students at SDN 4 Limboto Barat.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the perceptions of vocational high school students regarding diagnostic tests in English language learning, highlighting the limitations of previous studies that have focused solely on pedagogical functions without exploring how students interpret and utilize the test results. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study design involving 15 tenth-grade students from three departments (Mechanical Engineering, Accounting, and Hospitality) at SMK Negeri 1 Limboto, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews lasting 10–15 minutes, recorded, and transcribed verbatim, then analyzed using thematic analysis through a systematic coding process. The results indicate that students hold positive perceptions of diagnostic tests, particularly regarding their role in enhancing awareness of English language proficiency and motivating learning. However, the primary finding of this study is the existence of an “awareness gap,” wherein the majority of students do not yet understand how test results are utilized in the learning process. This finding indicates that the effectiveness of diagnostic tests depends not only on their administration but also on students’ engagement in understanding and utilizing test results. Theoretically, this study reinforces the assessment for learning framework by emphasizing the importance of student awareness, while practically, it implies the need for more structured and transparent feedback regarding the use of test results.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze students’ needs for interactive PowerPoint-based English learning media in the accounting expertise program at SMK Negeri 1 Limboto. The research employed a descriptive design within the Analysis stage of the ADDIE-based Research and Development (R&D) model, focusing on needs analysis grounded in English for Specific Purposes (ESP). The participants consisted of 15 tenth-grade students and one English teacher. Data were collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews and analyzed using descriptive statistics and qualitative thematic analysis. The results indicated that students showed a strong preference for interactive and multimedia-based learning media. Approximately 80% of students agreed that interactive media supports independent learning and time efficiency, while 73.3% reported increased activeness when using features such as videos, quizzes, and animations. In addition, 85% of students preferred visual and audiovisual media over text-based materials. The findings also revealed that most students experienced difficulties in speaking and writing and required learning media that integrates four language skills. These findings suggest that the development of interactive, contextual, and technology-based learning media is essential to enhance student engagement and support vocational English learning.
