Abstract

This study aims to describe the contestation relations between United States and China in 2018-2021 related to the development of China's Huawei technology. The development of human civilization influences phenomena in international relations, especially relations between states. The era of the 4th industrial revolution made technology a vital power potential for the states. Most of the global giant technology companies originate from the United States, but nowadays China's technology industry led by Huawei is starting to excel globally. Therefore, there is contestation in the relationship between the United States and China. The data in this study were obtained through literature and documents such as Huawei's annual report and reports released by research institutes. In addition, the research also uses some conceptual framework such as technology as an element of power, security dilemmas, and game theory: tit for tat in conducting analysis. This research ultimately provides an answer that regardless of China's intention in developing its technology, Huawei's technological development poses a threat or a sense of insecurity for the United States. This creates a security dilemma for the United States which in turn leads to pre-emptive action. The United States' pre-emptive action against Huawei drew a retaliatory response from China. China implemented a tit for tat strategy as a step to retaliate the actions of the United States. The interaction action by both states has created a contestation in the relationship between the United States and China because of Huawei's technological developments.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to look at the reasons for the Philippines to continue implementing the War on Drugs policy, despite receiving criticism from the international community regarding human rights violations. This study used qualitative research methods. The rFesearcher uses the Realism and National Security framework to see the causality of the Philippines' attitude in responding to these pressures. In this study, it was found that the answer is that the increasing level of drug abuse in the Philippines has made the issue a threat to the Philippines' national security. The Philippines issued a War on Drugs policy to eliminate this threat, plus drug abuse has a close relationship with several crimes that threaten the safety of Filipinos. With this policy, the Philippines responds to international pressure by continuing to implement a drugs war policy because the Philippines still wants to maintain its national interests, namely the security of Filipino citizens. Abstract

This article aims to analyze the use of religious ideology as political legitimacy in the case of the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir autonomy by the government of India. The revocation of Articles 370 and 35A of the Indian Constitution terminated the privileges the Jammu and Kashmir region enjoyed for approximately 70 years. The abrogation is viewed as an attempt by the Hindu nationalist government to achieve the Hindutva agenda, Hindu-based ideals. Thus, the research question of this study is developed as follows: How does India’s policy toward Jammu and Kashmir reflect the exercise of religious ideology as a political tool? This study uses the religious legitimacy concept as an analytical framework by exploring and interpreting a range of secondary data sources pertinent to the research question. This study concludes that the ruling party uses Hindutva as a religious ideology by operating the three aspects of religious legitimacy, namely normative, instrumental, and primordial, as justification for its policies towards Jammu and Kashmir. Thus, the Hindu nationalist government accomplished its objectives and garnered people’s support using the three facets of religious legitimacy. Abstract

Tourism is a critical need and a fundamental part of today's modern human lifestyle that cannot be separated. Many tourists from European countries choose to travel to Asian countries to gain new experiences and atmosphere. Indonesia itself is one of the countries that is a favorite holiday destination for foreign tourists from Europe, Australia, and several other Asian countries. Bali is one of the areas in Indonesia that many foreign tourists visit. Due to its beauty and unique culture, Bali rightfully deserves to become a Special Economic Zone (KEK) for tourism in Indonesia, a reputation it has long held. Apart from Bali, several other provinces, such as Lombok, NTT, and Jogja, are also planned to become particular tourism areas. However, unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic, which entered Indonesia at the beginning of March 2020, significantly reduced the number of foreign tourist visits to Bali. The year before the pandemic had seen 456,218 tourist visits, but the implementation of PSBB and the closure of entry and exit points to Indonesia at both ports caused a drastic drop. And airport. However, in 2023, when the pandemic is over, coupled with geopolitical turmoil in several parts of the world, Indonesian tourism will recover quickly and again become a favorite for foreign tourists to visit, one of which is tourists from Russia, whose numbers currently dominate in Bali. The method used in collecting data for this journal is a qualitative method. Data is collected directly at the Denpasar Immigration Office to determine the number of foreign tourist visits and their violations, especially for Russian tourists who have recently committed many violations in Bali. The discussion in this journal will focus on implementing the Evisa system, which is a breath of fresh air for the revival of Bali tourism after the pandemic. Apart from that, this journal will highlight case studies of the number of Russian tourists visiting Bali and the violations committed, supported by data from the Denpasar Immigration office. This journal hopes to increase awareness by strengthening regulations for foreign tourists in Indonesia to create a good tourism ecosystem.

Abstract

This study explores the evolving perception of the kembar buncing custom among the Bali Aga community, where the birth of unlike sex twins was traditionally considered a taboo, believed to bring misfortune and resulting in social stigma, exile, and financial burdens for affected families. In recent years, however, the perception has shifted toward greater inclusivity, with such births increasingly viewed as symbolic representations of harmony between good and evil. The study aims to understand the dynamics of this cultural transformation and its broader implications for preserving Bali Aga identity amid the pressures of modernity. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, non-participatory interviews, document analysis, and focus group discussions (FGDs). The analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, involving data reduction, data display, and verification to ensure systematic interpretation. The theoretical framework is informed by Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of habitus, which provides tools for analyzing how social dispositions evolve through interactions with structural forces and through the strategic use of various forms of capital: economic, social, cultural, and symbolic. The findings reveal that the transformation of the kembar buncing custom is driven by regulatory adaptation, cultural negotiation, hegemonic resistance, and symbolic reconstruction. Changes in community habitus, shaped by the strategic mobilization of capital by key social actors, have contributed to a shift in customary paradigms. This transformation suggests the need to recontextualize traditional customs within contemporary frameworks, not only to ensure cultural sustainability but also to advance human rights and social inclusion within the Bali Aga society.
