Abstract

This study investigates the dynamics of transnational Islamic identity among Muslim students in Riau, Indonesia, focusing on its two distinct yet interconnected manifestations: religious activism and socio-political engagement. This research is grounded in the socio-historical context of Islamic student movements in Indonesia, which evolved from operating discreetly under the authoritarian New Order to becoming more visible and diverse in the post-Reformasi Era. This study explores how transnational Islamic identity shapes students’ religious self-understanding in a rapidly changing social landscape. Employing qualitative methods, the research draws on in-depth interviews and participant observations conducted at three major universities in Riau: Sultan Syarif Kasim State Islamic University (UIN Suska), University of Riau (UNRI), and Islamic University of Riau (UIR). The findings reveal that students negotiate their Islamic identities through engagement with transnational Islamic networks and adaptation to local cultural contexts. This negotiation reflects not a binary opposition between radicalism and moderation but a spectrum of interpretations shaped by institutional, social and global influences. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of how globalization and local sociopolitical conditions produce diverse expressions of Muslim identity in higher-education contexts. It also highlights the need for policy interventions within universities to foster critical religious literacy, intercultural dialogue, and inclusive campus environments that allow students to articulate their faith identity constructively. For future research, comparative studies across regions and institutions are recommended to examine how transnational Islamic discourses interact with local political and educational structures beyond the university settings.

Abstract

Understanding the concept of normal distribution in statistics is often challenging for students, as it requires a deep understanding of symmetry, probability distribution, and the use of normal distribution tables. These challenges are often caused by difficulties in connecting theoretical concepts with data visualization and in comprehending z-score transformations. This study aims to analyze students' mathematical engagement in understanding the concept of normal distribution using Lumio-based interactive media. The study employed a quantitative, quasi-experimental design, with a pre-test post-test control group design. The experimental group engaged in learning using Lumio-based interactive media, while the control group received traditional lecture-based teaching methods. The research instruments included a concept comprehension test, a mathematical engagement questionnaire, and an analysis of Lumio activity logs. The data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests and ANCOVA to evaluate the effectiveness of Lumio in improving students' mathematical engagement and conceptual understanding. The results showed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores in both the experimental and control groups. The experimental group, which used Lumio, showed a significantly higher improvement in both conceptual understanding and engagement compared to the control group. The findings suggest that using Lumio-based learning significantly enhanced students' engagement and understanding of normal distribution, compared to the conventional teaching methods

Abstract

Hamzah Fansuri was a Sufi figure, writer and Mufti in the Sultanate of Aceh Darussalam during the time of Sultan Alaudin Riayat Syah (1596-1604). The controversy about his thoughts is one of the reasons for the interest in this article. The interesting thing about his thoughts is about wahdatul wujud. At first glance, this thought is normal, but the interesting thing is the understanding that was developed in the process of Islamization in the archipelago when the two schools of Sufism, Sunni and Shia, met. Therefore, this article will discover this side of the controversy and of course its influence on the development of Sufism in Indonesia. Data obtained from library research. The data analysis technique was carried out using qualitative analysis techniques in a deductive manner. The results of this study show that the controversy over Hamzah Fansuri's thoughts about Wahdatul wujud is a Sufi concept that was influenced by the thoughts of previous Sufi figures such as Ibn Arabi and Al-Qunawi. Its influence on the development of Sufism in Indonesia lies in the understanding of Wahdatul Wujud, understood as a single form which is the ultimate reality. Being other than Allah are shadows or manifestations of a single being. Hamzah Fansuri understands that the essence of existence is only one, namely Allah SWT and everything is explained in metaphorical language.

Abstract

Abstract

This study addresses university students’ persistent difficulties in developing geometrical thinking, defined as the ability to interpret slopes, understand tangent behavior, and coordinate graphical and symbolic representations, when learning derivative concepts. The study investigates changes in students’ geometrical thinking following instruction supported by graphic visualization. A one-group pretest–posttest quasi-experimental design was conducted with 30 students in mathematics education, limiting causal inference due to the absence of a control group. Data were collected using a six-item open-ended geometrical thinking test and structured classroom observations, which served as triangulation. The results showed significant improvement after the visualization-based instruction. The average pretest score increased from 48.12 to 67.51, with a normalized gain (N-gain) of 0.39, indicating moderate improvement. A paired-sample t-test confirmed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001). Although the effect size was large (d = 4.17), this finding should be interpreted cautiously given the study design and sample size. Observation data supported these results by revealing improved graphical reasoning, representational coordination, and student engagement. These findings indicate the potential of graphic visualization to support students’ geometrical thinking in derivative learning, rather than to demonstrate definitive instructional effectiveness.

Abstract

This article discusses a Phenomenological Study of Al-‘Afwu in Contemporary Qur’anic Exegesis and its Relevance to Trust Issues. This research is motivated by the phenomenon that modern-era society is starting to forget the true meaning and nature of forgiveness. That's why the problem of forgiveness (Al-‘Afwu) is underestimated, so it is very easy to forgive someone but still hold a grudge against that person, resulting in many people being hit by a crisis of trust (Trust Issues). The Trust Issues here is not human belief in God, but rather the belief that arises as a result of interacting with other humans. This research focuses on discussing the relationship between Al- ‘Afwu and the Trust Issues phenomenon. This type of research is library research using a qualitative descriptive approach, namely reading and analyzing study objects related to research. The study object in question comes from primary data and secondary data. The primary source for this research is contemporary Qur’anic Exegesis books while the secondary sources come from books, journals, articles and other written sources related to the research. The research results show that without Al-‘Afwu, Trust Issue sufferers will have difficulty trusting other people again, making it difficult for themselves because humans cannot be separated from other humans. There are many ways and methods for healing Trust Issues, but if the sufferer has not forgiven themselves and the people who have hurt them, it will be in vain. That is why Allah Swt. commands his servants to have a totally forgiving nature (Al-‘Afwu), namely forgiving others and erasing mistakes that have been made by the person who hurt them without any intention of revenge so that the ties of friendship are maintained and remain harmonious.
