Abstract

Aimed this study was assess the level of pollution Rokan estuary using macrozoobenthos as bio-indicators, assess the level of pollution of water quality in Rokan estuary and examines the relationship between macrozoobenthos of water quality in Rokan estuary. This study was conducted in September 2014 in Rokan estuary. Location of sampling consisted of four stations namely ST 1 in the village of Pekaitan, ST 2  between the village of Pekaitan and the village of Sungai Panji - Panji, ST 3 in the village of Sungai Panji - Panji and ST 4 in the village of West Bagan. Samplings were conducted three times, once per week at high tide and low tide. This research used survey method and data analysis using BBI and AMOEBA method. The results of this study indicate that the pollution level of Rokan estuary by macrozoobenthos as bioindicator were heavily polluted, where as based on water quality were light polluted to moderate polluted.

Abstract

AbstractA study aimed to assess the aquatic carrying capacity in the Bandar Kayangan Lembah Sari Reservoir, Rumbai Pesisir District, Pekanbaru City, Riau Province. The carrying capacity was determined based on primary productivity using chlorophyll-a concentration, which is indicating the existence of phytoplankton in waters. This research was conducted April-May 2018. Samples were taken at 4 station, namely Station 1 (inlet from the Merbau River), Station 2 (inlet from Ambang River) Station 3 (transition zone) and Station 4 (around the dam or outlet). In each stations, a sampling point is determind, namely the surface and the water column. Sampling was done three times once/week. Water quality parameters measured were chlorophyll-a concentration, transparency, temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, free carbon dioxide, nitrate and phosphate. Results shown that chlorophyll-a concentration : 12.54-19.82 µg/L, transparency : 65.17-74.33 cm, temperature : 27.3-29.3 ºC, pH: 5, dissolved oxygen : 4.1-7.69 mg/L,  : 3.32-7.32 mg/L, nitrate : 0.01-0.03 mg/L, and phosphate : 0.01-0.03 mg/L. Based on chlorophyll-a concentration the carrying capacity of Bandar Kayangan Lembah Sari Reservoir was 4,53 tonnes of fish/year.Keywords: Carrying capacity, Bandar Kayangan Reservoir, Chlorophyll-a

Abstract

AbstractSeveral activities in the waters around the University of Riau provide input of organic and inorganic materials which have an impact on water quality including nutrient concentrations in the waters. This research has conducted from June to July 2020. The study aim to know  the trophic status of the waters around the Riau University campus based on the Trophic State Index (TSI).  Sampling was carried out on the surface (0.5 m) waters,once/week, durung 2 weeks.  Water quality parameters measured were transparency, total P, and chlorophyll -a, where as supporting water quality parameters such as temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen (DO). The results shown transparency ranged 34 - 83.5 m, Total P ranged 0.301 - 0.599 mg / L, and chlorophyll-a ranged  0 , 56 - 5.03 µg / L. temperature ranges 30.3 - 31 0C, pH 6, and DO ranges  4.966 - 5.64 mg / L, and TSI value ranged  58,13 - 70,14.  Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the trophic state of  waters around the Riau University can be category mild eutrophic to severe eutrophic. Keywords: Water quality, Carlson 'Trophic State Index, Mild Eutrophic to severe Eutrophic Riau University

Abstract

AbstractMany activities in Tanjung Putus Lake contributes the input of organic and an-organic matter that influence the water quality, especially nutrient concentration in the waters. A research aims to understand the trophic state of the Tanjung Putus Lake’s water based on Vollenweider’s Trophic Index (TRIX), was conducted on March-April 2018. There were 3 stations namely Station 1 (inlet area), Station 2 (the middle of the lake), and Station 3 (outlet area). In each station, there were 2 sampling sites, in the surface and in the middle of water column. Sampling was done three times, once a week. Water quality parameters measured were total posphorus, DIN (Dissolved Inorganic Nitrogen), chlorophyll-a, oxygen saturation, temperature, transparency and pH. Results shown that the total phosphorus: 0.10– 0.14 mg/L, DIN: 0.10 – 0.12 mg/L, chlorophyll-a: 6.41 – 8.50 mg/m3, oxygen saturation: 54.52 – 87.06%, temperature: 30.00 – 32.33°C, transparency: 85.17 – 96.50 cm, pH: 5, and          TRIX: 3.52 – 5.75. Based on the TRIX index value, the water of the Tanjung Putus Lake can be categorized as mesotrophic to eutrophic. Keywords : Water Quality, Oxbow Lake, Mesotrophic, Eutrophic

Abstract

ABSTRACTPeriphyton is a sessile microscopic organism that attach on certain substrate. Research aims to determine the type and abundance of periphyton on plastic substrate has been carried out in April-May 2018 in the Sail River. There were three sampling stations, namely S1 (in the upstream), S2 (in the middle) and S3 (in the downstream). Samplings were conducted once/week for a 3 weeks period. The periphyton samples are brushed from the plastic substrates (8x6) cm2. The number of substrates in S1, S2 and S3 were 5, 4, and 3 pieces respectively. Water quality parameter measured were water current, temperature, transparency, pH, dissolved oxygen, free carbon dioxide, nitrate, and phosphate. Results shown that there were 33 types of periphyton present and they were belonged 4 classes, namely Bacillariophyceae (13 species), Cyanophyceae (10species), Chlorophyceae (9 species) andEuglenaphyceae(1species). The abundance of periphyton in the plastic substrate in the S1 was 15,658 cells/cm2, in S2 was 22,095 cells/cm2and in S3 there was 30,799 cells/cm2.The water quality parameters were as follows: water current 0.07-0.69 m/s. transparency 6.03-7.67 cm, temperature 29-300C, dissolved oxygen 4.8-5.7 mg/L, free carbon dioxide13.6-14.6 mg/L, nitrate 0.29-0.38 mg/L, phosphate 0.34-0.54 mg/L. Based on the type of peryphyton present, indicate the trophic state of the Sail River as eutrophic. Keywords: Lotic, sessileorganism, water quality, trophic state
