Abstract

Background: Neuropathic pain is a type of pain that can cause prolonged pain in patients. Oral treatment takes a long time and can cause side effects, which can further reduce patient compliance with therapy. Topical treatment is a more acceptable alternative because it has minimal systemic side effects. Phenytoin is an anticonvulsant drug that can be used as a therapy for neuropathic pain. The side effects of oral phenytoin are minimized by using topical preparations. Objective: To obtain information on the effectiveness of topical phenytoin in neuropathic pain. Long-term goal, conduct clinical trials in patients and make topical phenytoin preparations in collaboration with one of the PBF (Large Pharmaceutical Companies) in Indonesia. Methods: Three electronic databases were searched on January 13, 2022: Google Scholar. PubMed and ScienceDirect. All relevant literature was included after screening according to the PRISMA statement. Data obtained were synthesized based on PICO (population, interventions, comparisons, and outcomes). Results: This paper examines case reports, case series, and pre-existing research articles in which topical phenytoin significantly reduces neuropathic pain. Conclusion: Topical phenytoin may be an alternative in the selection of neuropathic pain therapy due to its minimal side effects compared to oral therapy. However, further studies need to be conducted to compare with other topical anticonvulsants.

Abstract

Stroke is a multi-causal disease, and many factors can lead to stroke. There are also some unseen behavioral factors, such as poor diet. In recent years, poor sleep quality has been considered a potential trigger of stroke. If these factors are not well controlled, it can have an impact on the incidence of ischemic stroke. The aim of this research is to assess the correlation between sleep quality and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels with the incidence of ischemic stroke. This study used an analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach using the PSQI (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) questionnaire and secondary data. A total of 60 respondents were selected with a purposive sampling technique and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. This research was conducted at Fatmawati Soekarno Hospital, Surakarta City. Statistical analysis showed that the Chi-Square test produced a significance value, with a p value of 0.007 for the correlation of sleep quality with the incidence of ischemic stroke, and a p value of 0.688 for the correlation of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels with the incidence of ischemic stroke. It can be concluded that there is a correlation between sleep quality and the incidence of ischemic stroke, but there is no relationship between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and the incidence of ischemic stroke.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The independence of kindergarten (TK) and Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) students is still low. Teachers act as mentors and substitutes for parents are required to have academic and non-academic skills related to the health of students during activities. A healthy school environment, the availability of health equipment, and teaching staff who are competent in School Health Services (UKS) and First Aid (P3K) are some of the factors that contribute to creating a conducive environment for students. Teachers in charge of UKS at Muhammadiyah kindergarten and MI levels in Gondangrejo Subdistrict have never received special training on UKS and P3K. Based on this, we held a community service program through training on School Health Efforts and First Aid for Accidents for teachers. The methods used were seminars, workshops, the creation of UKS guidebooks and posters, and the distribution of UKS and P3K equipment. The training participants were teacher representatives from Muhammadiyah kindergartens and elementary schools in the Gondangrejo sub-district of Karanganyar Regency. Competency improvement can be achieved through the provision of knowledge and training. The post-test scores were higher than the pre-test scores. Creating a healthy school is the responsibility of the entire school community, including teachers, students, school employees, and parents.

Abstract

Dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) cases are still high in America and Asia region, including Indonesia. Eradication of DHF can be done by larvacide. Temephos 1%, chemical larvacide used in Indonesia for decades, can cause environment degradation and allergic reaction in human. Papaya stem extract as biolarvacide contains saponins, tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids, papain and essential oils which have larvicidal activity. It can be applicable in all over the world. This study was conducted to determine the better suspending agent between CMC or PEG of papaya stem extract to kill Aedes aegypti larvae. Objective: To determine the better suspending agent to kill Aedes aegypti larvae. Method: This study was true experimental study in laboratory, used post-test only controlled group design. This study used samples consist of Aedes aegypti instar III-IV larvae. There were seven experimental groups, consist of positive control group, negative control group for CMC, negative control group for PEG, extract concentration of 1.5% with CMC suspending agent, extract concentration of 1.5% with PEG suspending agent, extract concentration of 2% with CMC suspending agent, extract concentration of 2% with PEG suspending agent. Each group was repeated 4 times and counted every 6 hours (6th, 12th, 18th, 24th). Data analysis using the SPSS application ver 23. Probit test used to determine the effectiveness of the larvacide, LC50 and LT50 to determine the concentration and time to kill 50% of Aedes aegypti larvae. It used Kruskal Wallis Test to compare four dependent groups. It used Mann Whitney Test to compare the differences of each group. Result: The study showed that LC50 PEG was 0.033%, LC50 CMC was 0.321%, LT50 (PEG+1.5%) was 20.8 hours, LT50 (PEG+2%) was 30.7 hours, LT50 (CMC+1.5%) was 23.5 hours, LT50 (CMC+2%) was 40.7 hours. Based on the probit test, the LC50 and LT50 results showed that papaya stem methanol extract with PEG suspending agent was more effective than CMC suspending agent, it needed lower concentration and lower time to kill 50% of larvae. Kruskall Wallis Test result p<0.05, so there was significantly difference between groups. Post hoc Mann-Whitney Test result p<0.05 between C(-) PEG group with P1, P2, P3, P4 and between C(-) CMC group with P1, P2, P3, P4, so there was significantly difference between C(-) PEG with each group and C(-) CMC with each group. Conclusion: It can be concluded that papaya stem methanol extract with PEG suspending agent was more effective than CMC suspending agent to kill Aedes aegypti larvae.
