Abstract

Kata Kunci: Pijat, Minyak zaitun, Nocturnal enuresis, Anak prasekolah, Terapi non-farmakologis ABSTRACT Background: Nocturnal enuresis (NE) is a common medical condition in preschool children that causes significant psychological and social impacts. Four-year-old children should be able to use the toilet independently and not wet the bed more than once a week, so safe and natural non-pharmacological therapies such as olive oil massage are needed.Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of olive oil massage in reducing the frequency of NE in preschool children at PAUD Kota Metro. Methods: Thirty preschool children were used as samples in this study, which was conducted using a one-group pretest-posttest design. Olive oil massage was performed for fourteen days, for fifteen minutes before bedtime. After observation, interviews and questionnaires were used to collect data. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Results: With a p-value of 0.000 (0.05) and a mean intervention effectiveness score of 1.700, statistical analysis showed a significant decrease in the frequency of NE.Conclusion: Olive oil massage is effective in reducing NE in preschool children.Suggestions: Olive oil massage therapy has been proven to be effective and safe. This supports its application by midwives in health education and community outreach as education for parents, and this therapy can be integrated into midwifery care for children and developed as a non-pharmacological strategy to treat nocturnal enuresis in preschool children. Keywords: Massage, Olive oil, Nocturnal enuresis, Preschool children, Non-pharmacological therapy

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Endometriosis, which often causes infertility, is characterized by a complex interplay between oxidative stress, inflammatory response, and apoptosis. Currently, the most effective therapy used for endometriosis is hormonal treatments, however it has many common side effects. Therefore, it is necessary to explore alternative treatments for endometriosis, including herbal ingredients. Phaleria macrocarpa fruit contains flavonoids with strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which have potency to improve fertility in endometriosis cases. However, assessments of whether P. macrocarpa might have any effect on oxidative stress, inflammatory response, and apoptosis in relation to endometriosis are still limited. This study was conducted to identify the effect of P. macrocarpa fruit ethanol extract (PMFEE) in improving infertility by assessing oxidative stress, inflammatory response, and apoptosis parameters in endometriosis mice model.METHODS: Female Balb/C mice were endometriosis-induced, and treated either with 6.5 µg/day Letrozole, 7.5 mg/kgBW/day PMFEE, or 15 mg/kgBW/day PMFEE for 14 days. Heatlhy mice were also included as control. Mice were necropsied, then the uterus and fat tissue around the uterus was collected. Malondialdehyde (MDA) as oxidative stress marker, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α as inflammatory marker, and Caspase-3 as apoptosis marker were assessed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).RESULTS: In uterus, MDA and TNF-α levels were significantly different among all groups (p<0.05). PMFEE both at 7.5 and 15 mg/kgBW/day lowered MDA and TNF-α compared to the healthy mice and mice receiving Letrozol. Meanwhile, Caspase-3 levels were quite indifferent among groups, showing that PMFEE was able to maintain the Caspase-3 levels in the endometriosis-induced mice.CONCLUSION: PMFEE reduces the MDA and TNF-α, also maintains Caspase-3 levels in the uterus of endometriosis-induced mice, suggesting it might have potential to improve fertility in endometriosis mice.KEYWORDS: Phaleria macrocarpa, endometriosis, infertility, MDA, TNF-α, Caspase-3

Abstract

Wasting (acute malnutrition) is a major nutritional problem in Indonesia, with a prevalence of 7.7% in 2022, still above the WHO maximum standard. Wasting is a condition in which a child's weight drops significantly below the standard growth curve or is considered low (thin). This condition can be caused by inadequate food intake or infectious diseases. The impacts of wasting include decreased immunity, an increased risk of illness and even death, and impaired growth and development. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge of mothers of toddlers regarding wasting and stunting, as well as their prevention. The methods used were outreach and education (counseling) through lectures and discussions. This activity was held in Mojopahit Village, Punggur District, Central Lampung Regency. The target group was mothers of toddlers, with 21 participants. Knowledge assessment was conducted using pre- and post-tests. Educational media used included leaflets and videos, including a video of Tuina massage. The results of the activity showed an increase in mothers' knowledge of wasting and stunting and their prevention. The average pre-test score increased from 72.86 to 87.14, resulting in a 14.28-point increase in knowledge.
