Abstract

Palm oil-based surfactants have the potential to be used as botanical insecticide formulations that are environmental friendly. This study was aimed to obtain information on the potential of palm oil-based surfactants as substitutes of synthetic surfactants in the preparation of botanical insecticide formulations to control Spodoptera frugiperda in organic farming. The experiment consisted of two stages, namely the stability test (surfactant and formulation) and the second stages were to test the insecticidal activity of the formulation against the targeted insects. The method of stability tests was following the standards of Collaborative International Pesticides Analytical Council (CIPAC). The insecticidal activity test used the leaf immersion method with the observation parameters of larval mortality and larval development time. The relationship between treatments and larval mortality was analyzed using probit to determine the LC50 and LC95 values. The data obtained were analyzed for variance and continued with the Least Significant Different test at 5% level. This study showed that palm oil has potential as a surfactant in the Piper aduncum nanoemulsion formulation according to CIPAC standards and affected the mortality of S. frugiperda with LC50 concentration of 0.55 and LC95 of 2.95.

Abstract

Aphids (Aphis gossypii) are a potential pest on broccoli plants (Brassica oleracea). The use of insecticides made from Tephrosia vogelii using nanoemulsion technology offers an environmentally friendly solution for this pest control. Nanoemulsion technology can produce very small particle sizes of nanometers that are adsorbed in liquids so that insecticides are more stable and effective. This study aims to test the effectiveness of botanical insecticide nanoemulsion made of Tephrosia vogelii against aphid pests on broccoli plants in the field. The research was carried out in the field, and the dose of field application refers to the results of laboratory research training (Tama, 2018). This study consisted of 4 treatments and six replicates, including K (Control), NTv (Nanoemulsion of vegetable insecticide made from T. vogelii), BT (bioinsecticide Bacillus thuringiensis), IS (synthetic insecticide with the active ingredient Abamectin). The results showed that the effectiveness of the three treatments included NTv 40.52%, BT 23.26%, IS 9.69%. There was a decrease in aphid populations in all three treatments. NTv (vegetable insecticide nanoemulsion made from T.vogelii) had the highest effect on aphids in broccoli plants in the field.

Abstract

This training is important in utilizing the citronella owned by the farmer group with a land area of approximately 4 Ha. So far, it has only been processed into oil with poor quality because it has higher water content. The oil results are sold by the kilo at a low selling price. In addition, the youth organization in Cibarani Village only has activities during national holidays. Hence, they lack the skills to optimize the potential of their area, which is rich in natural resources. The method used in this training is training and direct practice in making derivative products such as bar soap, dishwashing, hand soap, and detergent based on citronella. The training results are increased knowledge and skills of the farmer group and youth organization of Cibarani Village in optimizing citronella through derivative products with higher selling value.
