Abstract

This study aims to obtain strains of drought-resistant rice with productivity more than 8 tons/ha, get critical point of soil moisture for drought-resistant rice and obtain morphological and physiological markers for drought-resistant rice. The First year researh consisted of the first experiment was arranged in a randomized block design consisting of two factors with three replications. The first factor is the frequency of irrigation is irrigation every 4, 8, 12, and 16 days. The second factor is 5 strains of rice paddies. The second experiment was arranged in a Split Plot design. The first factor as the main plot is composed control drought stress (irrigation every 2 days until the high pool of 2.5 cm) and drought stress (irrigated when soil water potential at between -30 kPa to -35.9 kPa). The second factor subplot was 100 rice strains to be selected for resistance to drought stress. The second year research was the main plot is composed of control (irrigation as farmers usually do) and drought stress (irrigated when soil water potential reached -30 kPa) and sub plot were 8 rice strains and 4 comparator varieties. Results of experiment is a critical point soil water potential of -35.9 kPa, Drought tolerant lines and production of ≥ 8 tons / ha by 8 lines of strain B12493C-MR-11-4-4, B11598C-TB-2-1-7-MR-4, TB155J-TB-MR-3, TB155J-TB-MR-3-2, B12476G-MR-20, B 12498C-MR-1-1-6, B12825E-TB-1-24, and B11598C-TB-4-1-1. The number of tiller and proline content were a marker of morphology and physiology of drought-resistant rice. Drought tolerant low land rice (-30 kPa) with high productivity (> 8 tons/ha) at farmer’s land condition were B11598C-TB-2-1-7-MR-4, TB155J-TB-MR-3, and TB155J-TB-MR-3-2.

Abstract

Fertilization is needed to support the growth of soybean plants. Nitrogen is a type of fertilizer that is needed by soybeans in considerable amounts. Aplication of nitrogen at different times is able to affect the production and quality of soybean seeds. The purpose of this study was to attain information about the morphology, physiology, and production responses of two soybean varieties to the supply of N. This research was conducted at the Cikabayan Experimental Station, IPB University, Dramaga, Bogor Regency. This study used a completely randomized block design with two factors, namely two soybean varieties consisting of Tanggamus and Biosoy 1, and four combinations of N fertilizer doses that were without N fertilization, fertilized N at planting date, fertilized N at the seed filling phase, and fertilized N at planting date+seed filling phase with two replications. The dosage of urea fertilizer used was 25 kg ha-1, so that the N dosages is obtained 11,5 kg ha-1. The results showed that the application of N fertilizers at planting and during the seed filling phase (N3) was an effective time to increase soybean production. Keywords: fertilization, morphology, seed quality

Abstract

The severity of disease symptoms is affected by triangular interactions between pathogens, hosts, and the environment. This study aims to describe the severity of tungro disease symptoms concerning the resistance of rice varieties and various fertilization rates. The research used the potting method in the Center for Rice Research, Sukamandi greenhouse. The experiment was designed using a Randomized Design, with 3 varieties: Ciherang (sensitive), IR 64 (green leafhopper resistance), and Inpari 36 Lanrang (virus resistance) as the main plot, and 4 levels of combination fertilization: (1) compound fertilizer + without urea; (2) compound fertilizer and urea 250 kg/ha; (3) compound fertilizer and urea 350 kg/ha; and (4) compound fertilizer and urea 500 kg/ha, as subplots. The data was processed using Anova and Duncan's multiple distance test. The results showed that rice variety significantly affected vector preference and the severity of tungro symptoms. The dose of nitrogen fertilization does not give different results to the preferences of insects and the severity of tungro in the greenhouse. There is no interaction between the variety and the dose of fertilizing. Resistant varieties are less preferred by green leafhoppers than the sensitive varieties. Keywords: antixenosis, Nephotettix virescens nitrogen fertilizer, preference
