Abstract

The learning of high school chemistry is divided into two phases, E and F. One of the materials in phase E that is difficult for students to understand is atomic structure. The objective of this study is to ascertain the impact of cooperative learning on students' comprehension. The comprehension of learners can be gauged by the outcomes of their learning during cooperative learning. The research was conducted at SMA Negeri 15, Semarang City, Central Java on 10 February 2024. The subject of the research was the entire X2 class of SMAN 15 Semarang in the academic year 2023-2024, comprising 36 students: 18 male and 18 female.  The study employed a one-group pretest-posttest design. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of cooperative learning on students' learning outcomes. The study comprised three stages: a pre-test, a treatment period, and a post-test. The students' scores on the pretest ranged from 40.00 to 75.00, while their scores on the posttest ranged from 60.00 to 90.00. The values obtained from the pre-test and post-test were added to the data set and analysed using the normalised gain (N-Gain) test. The N-Gain test results indicated a value of 0.48, which signifies that the students' perception of their understanding of chemical concepts increased when they were taught using a cooperative learning model. Consequently, the endeavour to enhance students' comprehension of chemical concepts pertaining to atomic structure through the utilisation of a cooperative learning model was a resounding success.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the application of lesson study design on chemistry material in improving critical thinking skills of students in class XI-2 SMA Negeri 2 Semarang. The research was conducted for three meetings involving the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) learning model with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) approach. The lesson study stages included planning, implementation, and reflection focusing on reaction rate material, involving students in collaborative activities such as designing and testing simple tools. The results showed that the application of the STEM-based PjBL model significantly improved students' critical thinking skills. This improvement can be seen from students' ability to identify, analyse, and solve problems based on relevant theories. The learning activities implemented, such as group discussions and windows shopping activities, also play an important role in improving interaction and collaboration between students. The implementation of STEM in PjBL not only deepens students‘ understanding of chemical concepts, but also increases students’ interest and active participation in the learning process. This study concludes that the application of STEM-based PjBL learning model, collaborated with lesson study, is able to improve critical thinking skills and the quality of chemistry learning on reaction rate material.

Abstract

Abstract

Regression analysis aims to determine the relationship and influence of predictor variables on response variables through regression curve. The problem with nonparametric regression research so far is that it only uses one approach, causing the estimation results to be biased, even though each data sub-pattern has its own suitability depending on the approach method used. Therefore, the hybrid method emerged as a development of nonparametric regression. Hybrid models are models that combine approach methods, with the hope of increasing accuracy in modeling analysis. This research was carried out using two non-parametric approaches, namely Spline Truncated and Fourier Series. Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a disease caused by the dengue virus. DHF is endemic and occurs throughout the year, especially during the rainy season because mosquitoes reproduce optimally. The aim of this research is to estimate the Hybrid Nonparametric Spline Truncated -Fourier Series model and apply the estimation results to data on DHF cases in Central Java. The data used to apply the hybrid nonparametric Spline Truncated-Fourier series regression model is DHF in the city/districts of Central Java. Estimation smoothing parameters uses the GCV (Generalized Cross Validation) method. The best model is selected based on largest R-Square and the smallest MSE. Modeling the disease of DHF cases in Central Java using the Spline Truncated-Fourier Series hybrid estimator produced the best model from the Spline Truncated model with two knot points for each predictor and the Fourier Series model with value of 9. Based on the results obtained, it can be compared that the Truncated Spline-Fourier Series hybrid model is better than the Spline Truncated model, this can be seen from the largest R-square, namely 99.94% and the smallest MSE.
