Abstract

Dalam kondisi pandemi Covid-19 dimana mengharuskan guru mengatasi keterbatasan dan kendala dalam Pembelajaran Jarak Jauh, kemampuan menggunakan teknologi yang tepat dan metode mengajar yang menarik dapat memberikan dampak yang besar dalam proses pembelajaran. Di SMK Muhammadiyah Bawang, guru mengalami kesulitan untuk mengembangkan metode mengajar sehingga banyak pembelajaran yang masih monoton dan menjadi krisis kejenuhan bagi peserta didik di tengah situasi PJJ yang semakin berlarut. Guru akan dapat menjalankan pembelajaran dengan lebih variatif jika mampu menguasai dan memahami beberapa aspek diantaranya pemahaman tentang materi, kondisi siswa, situasi lapangan dan latar belakang masing–masing siswa guna dapat menjalankan proses pendidikan yang sesuai dan setara serta adil bagi semua siswa. Kegiatan In House Training (IHT) di SMK Muhammadiyah Bawang ini diikuti oleh 24 peserta yang terdiri dari guru – guru pengampu mata pelajaran di sekolah tersebut. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah pelatihan yang meliputi ceramah, refleksi, diskusi, konsultasi dan praktik. Tujuan utama kegiatan ini adalah: 1) Peserta mengetahui miskonsepsi PJJ pada masa pandemi; 2) Peserta mengetahui penerapan Strategi 5M untuk PJJ d imasa pandemi; 3) Peserta memiliki kanvas RPP Merdeka Belajar untuk PJJ. Kegiatan ini berdampak baik kepada guru–guru di SMK Muhammadiyah Bawang dalam membangakan metode mengajar selama PJJ. Hal ini ditunjukkan dengan pembuatan kanvas RPP Merdeka Belajar yang lebih baik di akhir pelatihan. Hal ini juga didukung dengan hasil kuesioner menunjukkan kepuasan guru setelah mendapatkan pelatihan serta menerapkan metode tersebut dimana kelas menjadi lebih aktif dan variatif.

Abstract

English Language Teaching (ELT) in Indonesia faced crucial time during Covid-19 pandemic period. In the distance learning process of ELT, teachers face difficulties in doing teaching learning process. 5M strategy helped teachers to maximize their relationship with students and parents in order to create an essential teaching learning activity, the objectives of this study are “Classifying the 5M strategy applied by the teacher in Distance Learning of ELT” and “Describing the example method of each strategy used by teacher in Distance Learning of ELT process”. The study employed qualitative approach in which the researchers used questionnaire and interview to collect the data. The participants were 20 high school English teachers in Batang region. From the study, it was found that the teachers applied 5M strategy in their learning process. The resuls shown that there are 16 teachers (80%) applied Memanusiakan Hubungan (Humanize Relationships) strategy, only 8 teachers (40%) applied Memahami Konsep (Understanding Concepts) strategy, 16 teachers (80%) considered Membangun Keberlanjutan (Building Sustainability) strategy in their teaching, 17 teachers (85%) presented Memilih Tantangan (Choosing Challenges strategy, and all 20 teachers (100%) were able to apply Memberdayakan Konteks (Empowering Context) strategy. This study also reveals some unique and new teaching methods applied in each strategy by the teachers.

Abstract

Since the whole world has experienced the Covid-19 pandemic, which has an impact on the education system; it has changed temporarily for an indefinite period. Learning carried out in Indonesia in particular was changed from face-to-face meetings to distance learning. Interaction or communication between teachers and students is carried out online or utilizing technology, both orally and in writing. Speech acts also influence distance learning, where the expressions are given by the teacher becomes a part that has power in regulating the success of distance learning. This study aims to describe the types of directive speech acts performed by teachers to elementary school students. This research is a qualitative descriptive studywith a population of elementary school teachers in Batang, Central Java. The researcher took a sample of 10 teachers who were taken randomly. The results of the study found that directive speech acts with the type of command expression are often used by teachers in distance learning with 16 expressions. The conclusion of this research is the expression of command is an expression that is often spoken by the teacher in delivering the material. Through this research, it is hoped that it can provide brief information that the teacher's directive speech acts are part of the process of delivering material or information.

Abstract

This study was aim to know how tongue twister can enhance students’ pronunciation ability at the first semester English Education Study Program STKIP Muhammadiyah Batang in academic year 2021/2022. This study conducted at the first semester of English Education study program that consist of 35 students as sample. This is a quantitative research. The researcher uses pre-experimental design using “one-group pretest-posttest design. The researcher uses pre-test and post-test to collect the data. Based on the calculation, the result of t-value is 3.965. In addition, the result on the mean score of post-test is higher than the mean score of pre-test (70.71>64.28). Then, the researcher consults the critical value to the t-table using the 5% (0.05) alpha level significance and the degree of freedom is 1.67. It shows that the t-value is higher than t-table (3.965>1.67). It means that Tongue Twister is effective to enhance students’ pronunciation ability for the first semester students of English Education Study Program STKIP Muhammadiyah Batang. The use of tongue twister make student more active and their pronunciation ability was improved.

Abstract

Online learning is the alternative teaching technique in this situation. Combining technology in learning English may be not weird for some teachers. However, some teachers are made confused by technology because of their knowledge. The pandemic of covid-19 thrust on the teacher for utilizing the technology in teaching and learning. The teacher has faced two conditions where they are not only learning about technology but, also should develop their materials. In developing the material for vocational school, the teachers have to know the need of their students. This research is aimed to analyze the students’ needs in teaching and learning which are conducted by online learning. The material, method, media, or technique in teaching and learning should be paid attention to. This research is descriptive qualitative research with use population vocational school in Purworejo. The sample of this research is tenth graders of SMK N 7 Purworejo and SMK Muhammadiyah Purworejo. The collecting data technique is an observation of the document and interview with the students and teachers. The result of this research is the materials should be developed/modified based on the major of their students. Speaking, pronunciation, and vocabulary are needed to emphasize online learning. The teacher must improve their media of teaching by using interactive media. So the teachers have to be more creative in using technology. The technique, method, or approach should be adaptable with the material of students’ needs, learning media, and textbook that is used. In conclusion, the teacher was hoped that they know how to use the technology, develop the materials based on their major, and improvisation of teaching and learning techniques, methods, and approaches.

Abstract

TOEFL is one method of measuring English competence and serving as a standard for anyone studying or speaking English as a foreign language. Because the TOEFL is a globally renowned language test that certifies one's English ability, there is a minimum score to achieve in order to complete a certain requirement, such as a support document to apply for a job, institution, or study abroad. It is challenging for almost all Indonesians to attain a minimum TOEFL score. The purpose of this article was to figure out the effectiveness of the TOEFL preparation training program in enhancing students' TOEFL score. This paper gathered information using action research, which consists of four steps: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The TOEFL training program was carried out four times a week for a month, including eight meetings for listening comprehension, ten meetings for structure and written expression, and ten meetings for reading comprehension. The class divided into three classes for each class consisting of 32 students. From the result, it can be seen that there is a significant improvement after the students participated in the TOEFL training program. It showed the students who reach score ≤400 in post-test more than in pre-test and the score increased as expected. On the pre-test, the students who got scores 400-500 was only 3% and after the training was given it increased became 13%. It can be concluded that TOEFL training program not only helps the students to improve their scores but also their comprehension of the TOEFL test

Abstract

Program PbM dilaksanakan di Desa Tedunan (Perempuan Indonesia Maju) yang bertempat di Desa Tedunan, Gringsing, Batang, yang mengembangkan pemberdayaan ekonomi perempuan di wilayah Tedunan. Perempuan diyakini memiliki peran penting dalam ketahan keluarga. Permasalahan mitra adalah sebagaian memiliki pekarangan yang ditanam singkong, namun hasil singkong berupa umbi yang berukuran kecil. Umbi yang kecil jika dijual harganya rendah, produk olahan singkong yang selama ini dijual dalam bentuk lemet, singkong rebus, singkong goreng dan pemasarannya masih lokal. Tujuan program PbM ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat melalui pemberdayaan perempuan dalam meningkatkan produktivitas dan teknik makanan olahan singkong serta pemasaran secara online.

Abstract

The aim of this research is: photographing the teacher's lesson study learning process, as well as evaluate information findings resulting from LS scientific article preparation activities. This research is based on a phenomenological approach, which focuses more on phenomena that are felt, obtained, responded to, perceived by subjects (humans) towards objects (LS scientific articles) written by teachers. The results of LS teacher's writing of scientific articles, are the result of narrating the implementation of lesson study, producing several findings, namely: firstly, they have writing skills to narrate teaching experiences. Some teachers are doing this skill for the first time. Second, photographing LS activities to narrate in articles, provides an interesting and challenging experience. Third, being able to present learning activities to be published as work results is a source of pride for teachers. Fourth, considering that LS activities are personal experiences, conveying them in written form is like telling a story. Fifth, encourage collaborative writing, as a result of collaborative LS experience, and the results of collaborative work. Sixth, preparing LS articles encourages teachers to look for lots of references, so that good LS articles are produced. Seventh, articles that are prepared collaboratively produce rich ideas, because they create an exchange of ideas to produce better articles. Eighth, there is a correlation between the lesson study stages, the problems that will be solved through learning, and the learning strategies carried out by the teacher. Ninth, LS activities will become teacher best practices in learning, when written in a scientific article. This LS scientific article expands information on the success or best practice of learning for many people. Tenth, the quality of the scientific articles produced is a portrait of the mastery of the lesson study that has been carried out. Suggestion: it needs to be used as a habit for lesson study activities which have an impact on writing scientific articles. The aim is to improve writing skills for teachers, while encouraging collaborative work as a habituation process, as well as training that learning experiences can become best practices that can be disseminated as more useful information.

Abstract

Efforts to build character through education are the right of every citizen to obtain education. The educational movement in prisons (correctional institutions) aims to strengthen the character of inmates through harmonization of heart (ethics), sense (aesthetics), thought (literacy) and sports (kinesthetics) with the support of public involvement and collaboration between educational institutions. Apart from that, it equips inmates to face conditions of moral, ethical and character degradation. The method of community service activities is through lectures and outreach to the target residents regarding religious aspects, educational aspects, legal aspects and health aspects. This community service activity was carried out on June 6 2024 at the Kendal Class IIA Correctional Institution. With this activity, prison inmates can strengthen their religious aspects so that they are able to correct mistakes and behave well, become citizens based on the character values ​​of the Indonesian nation, can know their rights as legal prisoners and lead a healthy life in body and soul.
