Abstract

Based on observations, information was obtained that the elderly hypertension rate was quite high (70%) in Ngaran II Hamlet. Some of the possible causes are the lack of knowledge and public awareness about non-communicable diseases (NCD), in addition to the lack of cadres and equipment. This causes the Posyandu not to run optimally. Integrated activities for field supervisors and students include forming a NCD care group. NCD prevention and screening training was given to members of the NCD Care group, with material on blood pressure checks, simple blood tests and determination of body mass index. At the beginning and end of the training, an evaluation was conducted to assess the level of knowledge of the participants. The NCD care group consists of 9 health cadres. The training methods include theory, discussion, and practice. Participants were aged between 36-54 years (43.6) with 55.56% high school education and 44.44% junior high school education. Of the 9 participants, only 7 completed the test. It can be seen that there is an increase in knowledge from the average pretest score of 45.54 to 68.75 post-test score. Statistical test using Paired T-test showed a significant increase (p 0.001). It was concluded that the training succeeded in significantly increasing knowledge about NCDs and their prevention

Abstract

Background: Pre-eclampsia is a very serious medical condition that can affect around 3-5% of pregnancies. More than 35,000 maternal deaths each year worldwide are caused by preeclampsia.Method: The authors identify studies that explain the effect of health information about knowledge about preeclampsia from several databases namely PubMed, ProQuest, EBSCO. Searches are limited to studies published in English and present data for the 2010-2020 period. The identified study was reviewed using PRISMA Flowchart. Studies with related quantitative designs about the effect of health information and risk factors for preeclampsia preeclampsia are selected for review. Results: as many as eight articles reviewed were found with two sub-themes, namely the factors causing preeclampsia, namely age, parity, obesity and a history of hypertension and health information about preeclampsia. Conclusion: All impacts related to the occurrence of the risk of preeclampsia can cause an increase in maternal and infant morbidity. Therefore, due to the many factors that can cause preeclampsia, it is recommended that all women, especially in developing countries, routinely check for pregnancy or integrated ANC in existing health facilities and health workers always provide information related to the risks and impacts that occur if the mother experiences preeclampsia.

Abstract

Yam (Dioscorea alata L.) is one source of carbohydrates with a low glycemic index. It is useful for controlling blood glucose levels. Yam has high carbohydrate and protein content but low sugar content. This research contributed to compare the sensory characteristics of the yam composite cookies between sugar and stevia sweeteners. This research is a quasi-experimental study with a cross-sectional design. Purple yam tubers were made into yam flour. The composite was made from yam flour and green bean flour (F1=100:0; F2= 80:20; F3= 60:40; F4= 40:60; F5= 20:80) (%w/w). Composites were processed into cookies with sugar and stevia sweeteners. Cookies with sugar and stevia sweeteners tested sensory characteristics to 31 in healthy adults aged 25-35. The results showed that the sensory characteristics of shape, size, color, texture, sweet taste and umami taste of yam cookies with sugar sweetener were not better than stevia sweetener. In contrast, the sub-variables of aroma, taste, and overall sweet potato cake with sugar were better than stevia. This implies that yam composite cookies with stevia sweeteners are healthier, but less desirable.

Abstract

Dioscorea alata is frequently consumed and has several health advantages. The immune system-protecting spleen may be protected by bioactive substances in Dioscorea alata tubers. This study examined the influence of immunomodulatory ethanol extract of Dioscorea alata (EEDA) on the diameter of the white pulp of the spleen in 50% alcohol-induced rats (Rattus norvegicus). This research is quasi-experimental using post-test only controlled group design. Twenty-five Rattus norvegicus were separated into five groups. The normal control group (C) received Carboxymextyl Cellulose (CMC), the negative control group (NC) received CMC and 50% alcohol, and three groups received EEDA at doses of 50, 250, and 500 mg/kg for 14 days and 50% alcohol. The diameter of the white pulp of the spleen data analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests. The study found a significantly increase in the diameter of the white pulp of the spleen (p<0.05) in the negative control group, EEDA doses of 50 and 250 mg/kg. The control group and EEDA doses 500 mg/kg groups had smaller the diameter of the white pulp of the spleen. The conclusions of this research proved that EEDA has an immunomodulatory activity, EEDA was immunostimulant at doses 50 and 250 mg/kg and immunosuppressant at doses 500 mg/kg.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is one of the important contributions to reducing maternal mortality, infant mortality, economic and environmental benefits. However, mothers still face many barriers during exclusive breastfeeding. This study aims to explain the perceived barriers to breastfeeding and find the most dominant barriers to breastfeeding. This type of research is quantitative research with analytic observational design and case-control method. The number of respondents in this study was 86 breastfeeding mothers, with a division of 43 mothers into case groups and 43 mothers into control groups. Sampling was determined by simple random sampling technique using an online number randomization application, namely random generator. Data were obtained from an original survey using an online questionnaire distributed through a social media platform in the form of a google form link. The results showed that barriers to exclusive breastfeeding from the social aspect, namely inadequate support from health care providers, were the most visible, followed by barriers from the maternal and infant aspects. Lack of health worker support (AOR= 22.621) was considered the main barrier to exclusive breastfeeding for six months among mothers in Gorontalo City, Indonesia. This was followed by lack of knowledge on breastfeeding. The lowest barrier was family support. Research on barriers to exclusive breastfeeding can help nurses and midwives develop breastfeeding promotion programs to increase exclusive breastfeeding among women in Gorontalo City, Indonesia.
