Abstract

Community service activities carried out by students of Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani were carried out on August 29, 2022, taking place in a medicinal plant garden, Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani which was attended by UMKM Spice Nusantara Bandung participants. The socialization carried out was the presentation and delivery of post-harvest processing materials (wet sorting, washing, drying, and dry sorting) and the standardization of traditional raw materials. Conventional medicine is a form of treatment efforts in the community to support health which is currently being recommended by the government. Communities can use the toga as an economical and efficient measure to maintain body immunity because the community can obtain and use the toga quickly and simply to maintain family health. The postharvest process greatly determines the existence of active compounds that are efficacious for treatment. Incorrect postharvest management can change, reduce, or destroy the active substance of a plant into a substance that has no therapeutic effect and can even endanger health. The results of the participant's level of understanding were carried out post-test with the results of what is the purpose of post-harvest processing (100%), the sequence of post-harvest processing (80%), what is the general drying temperature (100%), a medicinal plant has good quality and efficacy then we need to know (80%), and what is the function of the washing process (90%) with the conclusion that socialization activities can significantly increase the knowledge of participants from MSMEs regarding planting, post-harvest processing, and the properties of medicinal plants significantly.

Abstract

Abstract: Nampu (Homalomena rosrata Griff.) is traditionally used to increase sexual activity for men. However, the lack of scientific information on the phytochemical content of Nampu plants needs further research on the secondary metabolite compounds for isolation and identification purposes. The phytochemical screening of raw material, ethanol extract, and water fraction shows positive results for flavonoid, tannin, polyphenol, quinone, monoterpenoid-sesquiterpenoid, and steroid-triterpenoid groups. The chloroform fractions were monitored by the thin-layer chromatography (TLC) method with the addition of KOH 5%. The results showed a blue spot under UV light at 365 nm after the addition of KOH 5%. The fraction was purified by a preparative thin-layer chromatography method (TLC-P), while the isolates' purity was tested by the two-dimensional TLC method and TLC with three different phases of mobile phases. The results of the analysis with the spectrophotometer UV-Visible showed the wavelength of 278.8 nm and 213.2 nm. In addition, the functional group analysis using the I.R. spectrometer showed O.H. stretch at wave numbers 3419.79 cm-1, aromatic C-H at wave number 2922.16 cm-1, C = O at the wave number 1672.28 cm-1, strain C = C aromatic at the wave number 1585.49 cm-1. Based on TLC and spectrophotometric data, the isolates were coumarin compounds.Abstrak: Nampu (Homalomena rosrata Griff.) secara tradisional digunakan untuk meningkatkan aktivitas seksual pria. Abstract

The prevalence of DHF, especially in Indonesia, is still high. Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a disease transmitted by the Aedes aegypti species mosquito vector. Therefore, reducing the incidence of DHF requires efforts to break the chain of transmission by inhibiting the growth of the Aedes aegypti mosquito vector. One of the plants that can inhibit the growth of A. aegypti mosquito larvae is the bungur plant. This study aimed to determine the larvicidal activity of ethanol extract of leaves, bark, stems, and fruit of bungur (Lagerstroemia loudonii T. & B.) against A. aegypti larvae. Extraction process used maceration method with 96% ethanol solvent. Phytochemical screening results showed that the ethanol extract of bungur leaves and fruit contains alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, quinones, tannins, polyphenols, monoterpenoids, and sesquiterpenoids as well as steroids and triterpenoids, whereas in the ethanol extract bungur bark and stems contains alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, quinones, tannins, polyphenols, monoterpenoids, and sesquiterpenoids. LC50 values of ethanol extract of leaves, bark, stems, and bungur fruit were 374.64 ± 11.88 µg/mL, 396.70 ± 3.99 µg/mL, 425.80 ± 8.15 µg/mL, and 312.54 ± 2.24 µg/mL, consecutively. The results showed that the ethanol extract of the leaves, bark, stems, and fruit of bungur could inhibit the growth of A. aegypti larvae. Ethanol extract of bungur fruit has the best larvicidal activity compared to other test extracts.

Abstract

The genus Cyperus is widely recognized as decorative flora. Empirically, Cyperus plants have been utilized to treat wounds, inflammation, and digestive disorders. While the genus is reported to exhibit antioxidant properties, scientific data regarding Cyperus involucratus remains limited. This research aimed to identify antioxidant compounds in C. involucratus using Ultra-High-Performance Liquid Chromatography-High Resolution Mass Spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS). The C. involucratus methanolic extract was obtained through maceration using a 70% methanol solvent. Separation was performed using a UHPLC gradient system with a flow rate of 0.3 mL/min , while compound identification was conducted using a Quadrupole-Orbitrap MS detector in positive mode. The radical scavenging activity was evaluated using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. The analysis identified 175 metabolites within the methanolic extract. Based on mzCloud library matching with confidence scores of 97.4–100%, 12 primary bioactive compounds were identified: oleamide, α -linolenic acid, kaempferol, scutellarin, hexadecanamide, 1-linoleoyl glycerol, 1-stearoy-rac-lglycerol, adenine, adenosine, L-tyrosine, stearamide and nootkatone. The extract possessed a moderate radical scavenger with an IC50 value of 57.94 μg/mL. These findings provide a scientific foundation for further investigation of C. involucratus as a potential natural antioxidant, although further in vivo studies are required to validate its broader pharmacological outcomes.

Abstract

Oxidative stress is a major driver of degenerative diseases, while synthetic antioxidants may pose long-term safety risks. The need for safer natural antioxidants has accelerated the exploration of medicinal plants, which are rich in bioactive compounds with antioxidant potential, particularly flavonoids and polyphenols. This systematic review aimed to classify antioxidant compounds from medicinal plants according to their phytochemical groups and to appraise their therapeutic potential based on recent pharmacological evidence. Articles published between 2015 and 2025 were retrieved from PubMed, Google Scholar, Garuda. Fifteen studies met the inclusion criteria for antioxidant activity testing. The review identified dominant antioxidant constituents, classified by chemical structure, including phenols, polyphenols, flavonoids, quercetin, and flavonoid–hydroquinone derivatives, reported across multiple plant species (Table 1). Plants consistently described as antioxidant sources were reundeu (Straurogyne elongata), moringa (Moringa oleifera), Indonesian bay leaf (Eugenia polyantha), water clover (Marsilea crenata), mango leaves (Mangifera indica), raru wood (Cotylelobium lanceolatum), and Jamaican cherry (Muntingia calabura), exhibiting moderate to strong antioxidant activity mainly in DPPH and FRAP assays. Overall, the findings indicate that antioxidant activity correlates with structural features such as the number and position of hydroxyl (–OH) groups, conjugated systems, and metal-chelating capacity. However, these compounds still face challenges related to poor stability and low bioavailability, suggesting that nanotechnology-based delivery systems may enhance formulation effectiveness. In conclusion, the plants reviewed contain promising antioxidant constituents, with quercetin and flavonoids emerging as the most active compounds, supporting their development as candidates for natural antioxidant-based phytopharmaceutical raw materials in Indonesia.

Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is a major Gram-positive microorganism implicated in a wide range of skin infections. The increasing prevalence of antimicrobial resistance among S. aureus emphasizes the need for the development of novel therapeutic interventions. This study evaluated the antibacterial efficacy and analysis the molecular mechanism of Marsdenia tinctoria R.Br. (Tarum Areuy) leaf aqueous extract against S. aureus through integrated in vitro and network pharmacology analyzed. The aqueous extract was prepared by infusion, and its metabolite profile was characterized using UPLC-HRMS. Antibacterial activity was quantitatively investigated using the agar well diffusion method against S. aureus ATCC 6538. Network pharmacology identified ten secondary metabolites with antibacterial potential, seven of which exhibited pharmacokinetic properties that met the established bioavailability criteria (BOILED-Egg method). Protein-protein interaction (PPI) analysis indicated that fifteen key proteins interact with the seven compounds, with quercetin identified as the major bioactive compound activating specific bacterial pathways (SAV0081 and pkrC) in S. aureus. The highest antibacterial effect was observed at an 8% extract concentration with an inhibition zone of 17.03 ± 1.78 mm. Overall, these results confirm that the aqueous extract of M. tinctoria leaves contains potential metabolites as antibacterials that could be further developed as therapeutic agents for the treatment of S. aureus infections.
