Abstract

Objective of this research is studied of mineral substances and sea water effect on physico-chemicalproperties of highland peat. It was conducted at highland peat in Hutabagasan, Dolok SanggulSub – district Humbang Hasundutan Regency, North Sumatera. This research used non – factorialrandomized block design with four treatments those are G0 (Control), G1 (5kgs Volcanic sand), G2(5kgs Volcanic sand + 2,5L Sea water), G3 (5kgs Volcanic sand + 1kg Zeolite + 2,5L Sea water)and 3 replicants. The results showed that application of Volcanic sand (G1) significantly increasingon soil base saturation. Addition of sea water with volcanic sand and volcanic sand + zeolite (G2dan G3) significantly increasing on soil electric conductivity, exchangeable sodium, exchangeablemagnesium but decrease exchangeable calsium, and base saturation. Zeolite has a role as buffer ofsoil pH, soil electric conductivity and bulk dencity. The Application of all ameliorants have notpositive influence on the growth of rice plant and even decrease number of vegetative tillers.Keyword: Volcanic sand, Zeolite, Sea water, Highland Peat soil, Rice.

Abstract

This research purposed to evaluate the suitability of land for cultivation of robusta coffee in Dairiwith altitude at 400 - 1700 m above sea level . This research started from May 2013 to November2013. The research conducted by taking a sample soil based by method free survey grid with detailof survey level and then analyzed on the laboratory and land evaluation performed by the matchingmethod is based on plants needed with properties owned by land on any limiting factors. Theparameters observed in the field are soil depth, drainage, slope, the dangers of erosion, the dangersof flood, the rock surface and laboratory parameters analyzed include physical properties, textureand chemical properties of the soil pH, soil cation exchanges capacity, base saturation, C-organic,and soil salinity. The results showed that the actual land suitability classes for sample 1 is S2rc,nr,sample 2 is S3nr, sample 3 is S2oa,rc,nr,eh, sample 4 is S3nr,eh, sample 5 is S3nr, sample 6 is S3nr,sample 7 is Nrc, sample 8 is S3nr, sample 9 is S3tc,rc,nr, sample 10 is S3tc, sample 11 is S3nr,sample 12 is S3tc,oa,rc,nr, sample 13 is S3tc,nr, sample 14 is S3tc,rc, sample 15 is S3tc,nr,uh, andsample 16 is Nrc. Abstract

This study aims to examine the fertility of the soil in the Sihiong Village, Sinar Sabungan Villageand Lumban Lobu Village, Bonatua Lunasi Subdistricts, Toba Samosir District. This research wasconducted in Sihiong Village, Sinar Sabungan Village and Lumban Lobu Village, SubdistrictsBonatua Lunasi, District Toba Samosir and Laboratory analysis of samples carried out in Researchand Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra. The method used in thisstudy is a survey method to make observations on the soil profile and on each layer of the soilhorizon to compare the soil fertility.The soil in the village Sihiong have a somewhat acidic soil pH,organic matter content is moderate, moderate cation exchange capacity capability, very low basesaturation while high levels of total soil ferrum. The soil in the Village Sinar Sabungan have acidicsoil pH, organic matter content is moderate, the ability of the cation exchange capacity of themedium, which is very low base saturation while high levels of total soil ferrum. The soil fertility inthe village of Lumban Lobu have acidic soil pH, organic matter content is moderate, the ability ofthe cation exchange capacity of the medium, which is very low base saturation while high levels oftotal soil ferrum.Keyword: Sihiong village soil profile, Sinar Sabungan village soil profile, Lumban Lobu villagesoil profile

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kesesuaian lahan untuk tanaman Kopi Arabika danKopi Robusta Di Kecamatan Silima Pungga-pungga Kabupaten Dairi. Diperoleh 18 (delapan belas)SPL (satuan peta lahan) yang ditentukan berdasarkan peta jenis tanah, peta kemiringan lereng danpeta ketinggian tempat yang dihasilkan dari peta topografi dengan skala 1 : 50.000, kemudiandilakukan overlay. Penilaian kelas kesesuaian lahan berdasarkan kriteria Staf Pusat PenelitianTanah Bogor Tahun 1993 dan metode evaluasi lahan adalah metode limit berdasarkan Djaenuddin,2003. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelas kesesuaian lahan potensial Kecamatan SilimaPungga-pungga untuk tanaman kopi arabika adalah tidak sesuai (N) dan untuk tanaman kopirobusta, kelas kesesuaian lahan potensial adalah agak sesuai (S2).Kata kunci : kesesuaian lahan, kopi arabika, kopi robusta

Abstract

The purpose of the study to determine the characteristis of some of the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soil in organic farming systems. The study was held about 6 month from November 2013 to April 2014 in Bioenvironment Education Center of Organic Farming Bahorok in Timbang Lawan village, Bahorok, at Langkat district for observe the characteristic of some physical, chemical, and biological characteristic of soil in organic farming system. This research was conducted with survey method by evaluation the soil character in the area of farming base on the time of application of the organic farming, so it taken 3 samples which are the organic farming system beginning from year 2005; the organic farming system beginning from year 2010; and farming system which not applicate the system of organic farming yet as the comparation and was conducted about 3 sample points. The result of this research showed that the application of organic farming can fix the physical and biological characteristic, but not chemistry charactreristic yet. The charactreristic of physical of the soil that can be fixed by the application of organic farming were changed soil color become darken, decreased bulk density of soil, increased the total soil pore space, and increased soil permeability from criteria a bit slow to medium. Whether for the infiltration of soil can not be increased yet with the organic farming application. The application of this organic farming system can not fix the chemical characteristic of soil as pH of soil, C-organic of soil, N-total of soil, and P-available still have the same criteria with conventional farming application, but for parameter K-exchange can increase this parameter from low to medium. The organic farming application can fix the biology characteristic by increase the soil respiration, number of soil microorganism and earthworms population.Keywords : organic farming, conventional farming, soil characteristic

Abstract

Indonesia is an agrarian country which focuses on agriculture sector, but has a lot of acid reaction soil. Among all plant species for cultivation activity, soybean is one of the most often plant which use for cultivation activity in Indonesia. The Purpose of this research is finding the effect of pH on root nodule formation, nitrogen and phosphorusuptake and crop production on some varieties of soybean in Inceptisol at screen house. This research use randomized block design factorial method, with 2 factor, first was pH, second was soybean varieties which quantity and weight of root nodule, plant’s nitrogen and phosphorus content, plant’s nitrogen and phosphorus uptake, soil pH, dry plant weight, and also quantity of pod plant as the parameter. The result of this research show that Tanggamus was the variety which had quantity of pod most is about 108 and also the most high nitrogen content 3.218 % in both condition of pH.Keyword : Soil pH,Soybean, Root Nodule, Nitrogen, phosphorus

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui dampak ketebalan abu vulkanik pada erupsi Gunung Sinabung terhadap sifat biologi tanah di Kecamatan Naman Teran, Kabupaten Karo.Penelitian dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Biologi Tanah Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan dan di Balai Pengkajian Tanaman Pertanian (BPTP), Medan pada bulan Mei-September 2014.Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan melakukan pengamatan berdasarkan dengan ketebalan abu yang ada di lapangan dengan pengambilan sampel tanah diambil di daerah kecamatan Naman Teran, Kabupaten Karo dan dilakukan sebanyak 2 kali yaitu pada bulan April 2014 dan Juli 2014 dengan pengambilan sampel berdasarkan ketebalan abu yang tidak terkena A0 (tanpa), A1 (≤2cm), A2 (2-8 cm) dan A3 (>8cm).Adapun parameter yang diamati adalah pH tanah dan pengukuran aktivitas mikroorganisme tanah (respirasi).Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pH tanah dan pengukuran aktivitas mikroorganisme tanah (respirasi) bahwa semakin tebal abu yang menutupi permukaan tanah maka nilai pH dan respirasinya akan menurun.Kata kunci : abu vulkanik, ketebalan abu, sifat biologi tanah.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the type of Phosphate Solubilizing Fungi (PSF) as a result from isolated Andisol in Naman Teran district Karo sub district that affected by the eruption of mount Sinabung with some ash thickness around 0 cm (not affected), >0 cm - <2 cm (thin), >2 cm - 8 cm (moderate) and >8 cm (thick), and to determine its ability to dissolve phosphate on solid media. Isolation and potential test on solid media using media Pikovskaya with phosphate source Ca3(PO4)2. Evaluates JPF potential qualitatively by measuring the holozone diameter using index values dissolution. The results were obtained 4 PSF genus found in Andisol’s soil affected by the eruption of mount Sinabung: Aspergillus sp., Trichoderma sp., Penicillium sp.1 and Penicillium sp. 2. PSF were able to survive up to a thickness of Asharound >8cm is Aspergillus sp. Based on the test results the potential of solid media Penicillium sp.2 has the best ability to dissolve phosphate.Keyword: phosphate, volcanic ash, phospate solubilizing fungi

Abstract

Tingkat Bahaya Erosi (TBE) Tanah Andisol Pada Beberapa Tipe Penggunaan Lahan dengan Menggunakan Metode USLE di Desa Kutarakyat Kecamatan Namanteran Kabupaten Karo, di bimbing oleh Prof. Ir. Zulkifli Naustion, M.Sc, PhD sebagai ketua komisi pembimbing dan Mariani Sembiring, SP., MP sebagai anggota komisi pembimbing. Desa Kutarakyat Kecamtan Namanteran Kabupaten Karo merupakan daerah desa yang langsung bertepatan dengan Kabupaten Langkat dimana daerah ini masih didominasi oleh daerah hutan. Untuk mengetahui tingkat erosi tanah Desa Kutarakyat dilakukan suatu penelitian pada Juni-September 2011. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survey dan dilanjutkan perhitungan laju erosi tanah metode USLE (Universal Soil Loss Equation). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan Nilai Erosi Aktual tertinggi berada pada lahan tanaman tahunan yaitu sebesar 6,941 ton/ha/tahun dengan kemiringan lereng 15-30%, sedangkan yang terendah pada lahan hutan sebesar 0,218 ton/ha/tahun dengan kemiringan lereng 8-15%. Dengan nilai Erosi yang Ditoleransikan tertinggi pada lahan tanaman tahunan yaitu sebesar 21,563 ton/ha/tahun dengan kemiringan lereng 8-15%, sedangkan yang terendah pada lahan tanaman semusim yaitu 8,9 ton/ha/tahun dengan kemiringan lereng 0-3%. Dengan Tingkat Bahaya Erosi Aktual yang terbesar pada lahan tanaman tahunan yaitu 0.357 dengan kemiringan lereng 15-30% dengan kriteria sangat ringan, sedangkan yang terendah pada lahan hutan yaitu 0.011 dengan kemiringan lereng 8-15% dengan kriteria sangat ringan.Kata Kunci: Erosi Tanah USLE, Kemiringan, Vegetasi

Abstract

Andisol was soil with high phosphate retension (>85 %) so that Phosphate not available to plants. Phosphate (P) was important nutrient that used in photosynthesis process, roots growth, flower, fruit and seed forming. The object of this research is to know the effect of phosphate solubilizing microbe (MPF) application, some organic matter sources and both of interaction to changes of phosphate form to phosphate availability and potatos (Solanum tuberosum L.) production at Andisol soil impacted Sinabung Mountain eruption. This research was conducted in Kuta Rakyat Village, Naman Teran Subdistrict, Karo Regency on February until July 2015. The research used factorial Random Device Group Methode (RDG) consists of two treatments and two replications. The first factor is phosphate solubilizing microbe with four treatments: control, phosphate solubilizing bacterial (30 ml), phosphate solubilizing fungi (30 ml), phosphate solubilizing bacterial and fungi (15 ml + 15 ml). The second factor is organic matter with five treatments: control, cow manure (100 g/plant), chicken manure (100 g/ plant), straw (100 g/ plant), Tithonia diversifolia (100 g/ plant).
