Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between sleep quality, emotion regulation, and academic performance among high school students. Learning is a vital process in developing students' skills, knowledge, and attitudes, with academic performance serving as a key indicator of success. High school students are in their adolescent phase, which is marked by physical, psychological, and social changes, as well as academic pressures that can affect their academic performance. One factor that may influence academic performance is sleep quality, which can impact concentration, memory, and mental health. On the other hand, effective emotion regulation can help students cope with academic stress and enhance their performance. This research was conducted to analyze whether sleep quality and emotion regulation influence the academic performance of high school students. The results showed no significant relationship between sleep quality and emotion regulation on students’ academic performance, with a significance value of 0.151 (p < 0.05). This indicates that other factors such as family support, motivation, and learning strategies may play a more dominant role in influencing students' academic performance. This study suggests that future research should consider the dynamic interplay among these factors and adopt a more in-depth approach to explore other variables that may affect students’ academic outcomes.

Abstract

The fact that the internet is used for non-academic activities during learning sessions indicates a shift in students’ study behaviour. Cyberslacking, defined as the use of digital technology for personal purposes during learning, is one such behaviour. The purpose of this study is to examine how academic stress and boredom influence cyberslacking among upper secondary school students. A quantitative approach with a correlational design was employed. The sample was determined through purposive sampling, comprising 167 Year 11 students selected based on the school’s considerations. Instruments included a boredom scale, an academic stress scale, and a cyberslacking scale, all grounded in psychological theory and tested for validity. Multiple linear regression was applied to analyse the data. The findings reveal that both academic stress and boredom affect cyberslacking; however, only academic stress exerts a statistically significant impact. This suggests that academic stress is the primary driver prompting students to disengage from learning via the internet. Schools are encouraged to devise strategies to manage stress and adopt more engaging teaching approaches to curb such behaviour.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the role of Cognitive Flexibility and Problem-Focused Coping in relation to academic procrastination among junior high school students. Academic procrastination has often been associated with self-regulation, yet most studies have examined psychological factors separately. The simultaneous relationship between Cognitive Flexibility and Problem-Focused Coping remains underexplored, particularly among junior high school students in Indonesia. A quantitative correlational design was employed, involving 151 students from SMP Negeri 22 Surabaya selected through purposive sampling. Likert-scale questionnaires were used to measure the three main variables. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that Cognitive Flexibility and Problem-Focused Coping jointly predicted academic procrastination significantly (F = 86.650; p < 0.001; R² = 0.539). Partially, Cognitive Flexibility showed a significant negative effect (B = -0.250; t = -2.313; p = 0.022), while Problem-Focused Coping demonstrated a stronger predictive contribution (B = -0.696; t = -6.763; p < 0.001).The theoretical contribution of this study lies in strengthening self-regulation models and highlighting the role of executive functions in adolescents’ academic behaviour, emphasizing that Cognitive Flexibility and adaptive coping strategies complement each other in reducing procrastination. The practical implication is that school-based interventions should prioritize active coping training, time management, and problem-solving skills. These findings can serve as the basis for psychological assistance and academic counselling programs to reduce procrastination tendencies among junior high school students.

Abstract

When someone perceives significant differences in others, they may feel anxious about the potential for negative interactions or undesirable outcomes that may arise from such interactions. This is referred to as intergroup anxiety. It is important to research the validity and reliability of the intergroup anxiety scale for international students in Indonesia because intergroup anxiety affects various psychological variables in them. One of the most commonly used instruments to measure intergroup anxiety is the Intergroup Anxiety Scale (IAS) by Walter G. Stephan and Cookie White Stephan, developed since 1985. This study aims to evaluate the psychometric properties of the IAS in the context of international students in Indonesia. From the analysis of 100 collected data points, the results show that the IAS used in this study meets the criteria for content validity, construct validity, and reliability. The results indicate that the IAS meets four Goodness of Fit criteria, with RMSEA = 0.079, SRMR = 0.074, NFI = 0.90, and CFI = 0.95. Furthermore, the reliability of the IAS was evaluated with an Average Variance Extracted (AVE) value of 0.57. The overall Composite Reliability (CR) value reached 0.93. Therefore, it can be concluded that the IAS is a valid and reliable tool for measuring self-construal among international students in Indonesia.
