Abstract

Solid organic fertilizer is commonly applied for organic vegetable production in a closed agriculture production system as nutrient source. However, its availability is considered slow to sweet corn, and thus it is important to make additional nutrients supply as liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) through leaves. The experiments were conducted to compare effects of LOF application methods and to determine optimum LOF concentrations for sweet corn. Two separated factorial experiments, arranged in randomized complete block design with three replicates, were conducted from February to May and March to June 2015, respectively. The first factor was LOF application methods (soil and foliar) and the second factor was LOF concentration (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100 ppm). The observations focused on average weight of husked ear, length, weight and diameter un-husked ears. The results indicated that the effectiveness of soil application of LOF was 99.625 % as effective as foliar application in influencing sweet corn yields. Concentrations of LOF did not increase all observed variables, but yield attributes were within the range of variety description. It is concluded that in a closed production system, LOF application through soil is as effective as foliar application in affecting sweet corn yields.

Abstract

Pandemik Covid-19 memberikan dampak yang sangat luar biasa terhadap keseharian masyarakat dunia, termasuk masyarakat Kota Bengkulu.  Kelompok Tani merupakan salah satu unit sosial yang strategis untuk meningkatkan produktivas pertanian dan meningkatkan taraf hidup petani dan kemampuan beradaptasi dengan kondisi yang kurang menguntungkan.  Kelompok Tani Melati Kelurahan Kandang Limun yang memiliki latar belakang aktifitas memproduksi tanaman pangan dapat diperkenalkan dengan produksi tanaman sayuran untuk menopang kebutuhan hidupnya. Penelitian bertujuan untuk menganalisis persepsi petani terhadap tingkat pengetahuan, kebermanfaatan dan keberlanjutan produksi sayuran organik di Kota Bengkulu. Penelitian menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif dari data kuisioner responden. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa persepsi anggota Kelompok Tani Melati terhadap pengetahuan, kebermanfaatan dan keberlajutan tanaman sayuran organik tinggi.

Abstract

Conversion of natural forest into agricultural land uses has decreased soil organic carbon (SOC) and increased carbon emission into the atmosphere, but proper management of agricultural land can sequester carbon from the atmosphere and increase the SOC. This study was conducted to estimate the SOC content and storage in a forest, agroforestry land, oil palm plantation, and agricultural experimental field and to analyze the correlation between the SOC and other soil characteristics at Bengkulu City, Indonesia. Soil were sampled from the following depths: 0–10 cm, 10–20 cm, and 20–30 cm. The biomass of litter and ground cover was also sampled. This study found that the forest had the highest average SOC content from the three depths, and 0–30 cm depth SOC storage, while the agroforestry system had the lowest of both SOC content and storage. The 0–10 cm depth had the highest SOC content and storage, while the 20–30 cm depth had the lowest of both variables. The SOC was positively correlated with litter biomass, field capacity, exchangeable potassium, cation exchange capacity, and negatively correlated with bulk density and exchangeable calcium, but not correlated with total nitrogen and available phosphorus. High litter biomass input is the key to the maintenance of high SOC.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe availability of varieties having high-yielding potential and good horticultural characteristics under organic environment is prerequisite for successful organic sweet corn production. Objective of this study was to estimate the general and specific combining abilities of ear characteristics in eight sweet corn inbred lines under organic cropping system. Seeds of 64 genotypes generated from a full diallel crossing scheme of the inbred lines were planted on the experimental plots in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications. Organic managements were practiced during the crop production. Analysis of variance showed highly significant variabilities among the genotypes for ear length, unhusked ear diameter, husked ear diameter, kernel row number, and ear weight. Analyisis of combining ability components revealed that both additive and non-addive gene actions played important roles in the expression of those traits, while reciprocal effect played a minor role in husked ear diameter expression. Based on their general combining abilities, Caps 17A, Caps 17B, and Caps 5 were considered as good combiners for the development high-yielding hybrid varieties under organic cropping system. Caps 2 x Caps 3 was the hybrid with the highest and positive specific combining ability for most of the characters studied.Keywords: general combining ability, hybrid, inbred line, specific combining abilityABSTRAKPenyediaan varietas yang berdaya hasil tinggi dengan karakteristik hortikultura baik pada lingkungan organik menjadi prasyarat bagi keberhasilan produksi jagung manis secara organik. Tujuan dari penelitian ini ialah untuk menduga besarnya daya gabung umum dan daya gabung khusus karakteristik tongkol dari delapan galur inbrida jagung manis pada sistem budidaya organik. Benih dari 64 genotipe yang dihasilkan melalui skema persilangan dialel penuh dari galur-galur inbrida tersebut ditanam pada plot-plot percobaan dalam susunan rancangan acak kelompok lengkap dengan 3 ulangan. Pengelolaan secara organik dilakukan selama proses budidaya tanaman. Analisis ragam menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang sangat nyata antar genotipe untuk panjang tongkol, diameter tongkol berkelobot, diameter tongkol tanpa kelobot, jumlah baris biji per tongkol, dan bobot tongkol. Analisis daya gabung menunjukkan bahwa tindak gen aditif dan non-aditif memiliki peran penting terhadap ekspresi karakter-karakter tersebut, sementara pengaruh resiprokal hanya terlibat pada ekspresi diameter tongkol tanpa kelobot. Berdasarkan nilai daya gabung umumnya, Caps 17A, Caps 17B, dan Caps 5 memiliki potensi sebagai penggabung yang baik untuk pengembangan varietas hibrida berdaya hasil tinggi pada sistem budidaya organik. Caps 2 x Caps 3 merupakan hibrida dengan daya gabung khusus positif tertinggi pada sebagian besar karakter tongkol yang dievaluasi.Kata kunci: daya gabung khusus, daya gabung umum, galur inbrida, hibrida

Abstract

Contamination of  heavy metals on the soil leads to an increase in its acidity. Vermicompost application is commonly used to improve the properties of soil. The study was carried out to determine the reduction of the acidity in Pb and Cd contaminated soils under the application of vermicompost. Two laboratory experiments were set using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors. The first factor was soil samples, vis Inceptisols, and Entisols, and the second factor was the rates of vermicompost, consisted of 0, 5, 10, 15 g kg-1. The treatment combination was repeated three times. The soils were pretreated with 10 mg kg-1 Pb or Cd using Pb(NO3)2 and Cd(NO3)2. Three hundred kg soil sample was incorporated with vermicompost and placed in a 500 ml plastic bottle. The mixtures were incubated for eight weeks, and the moisture of the soil was maintained at field capacity. The acidity and soil temperature were monitored every week. The study indicated that Pb contaminated soil acidity increased to the sixth week of the incubation and decreased afterward. However, the acidity of Cd contaminated soil was consistently increased during the incubation. Treatment of vermicompost significantly lowered the acidity of both Pb and Cd contaminated soils. Contaminated Entisols had a higher response to the application of vermicompost than that of Inceptisols. This finding is significant in assessing acidity risk and possible management intervention for Pb and Cd contaminated soils.

Abstract

Karbondioksida (CO2) merupakan penyumbang utama gas rumah kaca karena jumlah emisi CO2 selalu mengalami peningkatan. Penelitian pengukuran emisi karbon di daerah tropis sebagian besar dilakukan pada tanah-tanah organik (tanah gambut), sedangkan Indonesia didominasi oleh tanah mineral. Kabupaten Bengkulu Selatan memiliki banyak jenis penggunaan lahan, menyebabkan perlunya penelitian untuk mengukur emisi karbon permukaan tanah pada beberapa tipe penggunaan lahan di daerah tropis (Kabupaten Bengkulu Selatan). Tujuan Penelitianadalahmengukur dan menganalisis tingkat emisi CO2 pada permukaan tanah dan menganalisis faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi emisi CO2 pada permukaan tanah pada beberapa jenis penggunaan lahan di daerah tropis. Lokasi penelitian di Kecamatan Seginim, Kabupaten Bengkulu Selatan, Provinsi Bengkulu. Penelitian dilakukan pada enam tipe penggunaan lahan yaitu jagung, kelapa sawit, hutan, sayuran, kopi dan karet. Metode pengukuran emisi CO2 yang digunakan adalah titrasi asam basah (Anderson, 1982). Hasil penelitian menunjukan emisi CO2 lahan jagung 5,05 sebesar kg/ha/hari, kelapa sawit 5,00 kg/ha/hari, sayuran 4,97 kg/ha/hari, karet 4,81 kg/ha/hari, kopi 4,80 kg/ha/hari dan hutan 4,76 kg/ha/hari. Besarnya nilai emisi CO2 pada lahan jagung, kelapa sawit dan dan sayuran disebabkan oleh pemberian pupuk pada lahan tersebut. Faktor lingkungan yang paling berpengaruh terhadap emisi CO2 adalah kelembaban tanah dengan nilai korelasi -0,867 dan tingkat signifikan 0,025. Suhu tanah tidak memiliki korelasi yang kuat terhadap emisi CO2 karena nilai korelasi hanya 0,373 dan tingkat signifikan 0,466.

Abstract

Perusahaan pertambangan batubara yang memiliki ijin beroperasi di wilayah Kabupaten Bengkulu Utara adalah PT.  Firman Ketaun (FK) berada di Desa Tanjung Dalam Kecamatan Ulok Kupai,  Kabupaten Bengkulu Utara. Luas wilayah  PT.  Firman Ketaun (FK) adalah 1259,6 ha, dengan besarnya luas wilayah tersebut, maka PT. Firman Ketaun memiliki aktivitas penambangan yang besar. Aktivitas kegiatan penambangan yang besar  menjadi dasar berpengaruhnya terhadap kondisi sosial ekonomi para pekerja, baik itu secara positif maupun negatif. Berdasarkan latar belakang tersebut, maka pokok permasalahan yang dapat dirumuskan dalam penelitian ini adalah: (a) Bagaimana persepsi pekerja terhadap kondisi sosial ekonomi pekerja tambang batubara PT. Firman Ketaun , (b) Bagaimana hubungan persepsi pekerja akibat keberadaan pertambangan batubara terhadap kondisi sosial ekonomi PT. Firman Ketaun. Tujuan dari penelitian ini  adalah: (a) Menentukan faktor yang mempengaruhi persepsi pekerja terhadap kondisi sosial ekonomi pekerja tambang batubara PT. Firman Ketaun, (b) Menentukan rata-rata penilaian persepsi pekerja terhadap kondisi sosial ekonomi pekerja tambang batubara PT. Firman Ketaun. Metode analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah bersifat deskriptif. Sebagai alat pengumpul data primer, instrumen atau alat ukur yang digunnakan dalam penelitian ini sebagian besar adalah kuisioner dengan pertanyaan tertutup dan alternatif jawaban menggunakan 5 point Skala Likert. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah faktor yang mempengaruhi persepsi pekerja terhadap kondisi sosial ekonomi pekerja tambang batubara PT. Firman Ketaun adalah: (a)  Bidang pekerjaan, (b) Status pekerja, (c) Lokasi  bekerja. Rata-rata penilaian persepsi pekerja terhadap kondisi ekonomi pekerja tambang batubara PT. Firman Ketaun sebesar 84%  dan rata-rata penilaian persepsi pekerja terhadap kondisi sosial pekerja tambang batubara PT. Firman Ketaun sebesar 76,47%.

Abstract

Program Revolusi Hijau diakui telah dapat meningkatkan produksi padi, sehingga bangsa Indonesia pernah mencapai swasembada beras pada tahun 1984-1989. Namun disisi lain program revolusi hijau terdapat beberapa persoalan mendasar atau kelemahan – kelemahan, terutama dari sisi ekologi, kesehatan dan sosial budaya. Oleh karena itu dikembangkan kembali Pertanian Organik. Namun faktanya sampai saat ini Pertanian Organik di nilai sangat sulit berkembang, terutama di kabupaten Bengkulu Utara. Penelitian ini bertujuan melakukan penggalian Persepsi petani dan identifikasi faktor internal dan eksternal yang berpengaruh dalam pengembangan pertanian organik di kabupaten Bengkulu Utara dan menyusun serta memilih strategi pengembangannya. SWOT analisis digunakan untuk menentukan nilai faktor internal-ekternal dan mengembangkan strategi pengembangan pertanian organik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai persepsi petani ditinjau dari aspek ekologis pada kategori sedang (2,53), aspek ekonomi dan sosial budaya pada kategori sedang ( 2,51) dan aspek teknis kategori sedang (2,27). Faktor internal dan eksternal berturut-turut adalah 2,74 dan 2.65. Jika dilihat lebih dominan skor faktor kelemahan jauh lebih tinggi (3.81) dibanding faktor kekuatan (3.22). Sebaliknya untuk skor peluang (3.21) lebih kecil dibandingkan dengan skor ancaman (3,41). Berdasarkan hasil matrik IE, kondisi pertanian organik di kabupaten Bengkulu Utara berada pada kuadran IV (WT). Strategi pengembangan pertanian organik yang dipilih adalah penguatan jaringan pemasaran produk organik, penguatan kelembagaan dan pemberdayaan masyarakat serta program pengembangan pertanian organik yang sesuai dengan kondisi lokal untuk menjadi produk unggulan daerah.

Abstract

Recently, application of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) in organic farming practices is of importance to prevent further soil degradation due to prolong and massive use of synthetic fertilizer. LOF provides faster plant nutrients than soil organic fertilizer. However, quality of LOF is substantially dependent on its sources. Animal wastes from rabbit, goat, and cattle are scarcely used as sources of LOF production. The study aimed to determine soil chemical improvement and potassium uptake by mung bean  as affected by LOF in Ultisol. The experiment was conducted at the Greenhouse Faculty of Agriculture, employing Completely Randomized Design with two factors. The first factor was animal wastes, consisting of goat, rabbit, and cattle wastes. The second factor was LOF concentration, consisting of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% LOF. LOF was prepared by mixing altogether animal feces, urine, soil, green biomass, EM-4 and fresh water to total volume of 10 l in a plastic container. LOF was decanted to the polybag every week starting at one week after planting for four weeks to a total volume of 750 ml per polybag. Variables observed included soil pH, total organic-C, exchangeable K, soil nitrate-N, K concentration in plant tissue, K-uptake, and shoot dry weight of sweet corn The result showed that application of LOF from rabbit waste had the highest increment of soil pH as compared to the other treatment. However, exchangeable K was observed highest at the treatment of LOF from goat waste. Sources of LOF from animal wastes did not have an effect on K-uptake by mung bean. In addition, application of LOF up to 100% was able to improve soil chemical properties as indicated by the increase in soil pH and exchangeable K. So did the concentration and uptake of K, as well as shoot dry weight. Fertilization with LOF has benefit to the improvement of soil chemical properties leading to better K uptake.

Abstract

Understanding the relation of agroecosystem types, ages, and soil properties are vital in maintaining good quality soil. This study aims to explore the variation of selected soil properties with agroecosystem types and ages. The research has been conducted in North Bengkulu, Indonesia. Soil properties on agroecosystems of 5-yr, 10-yr, 15-yr oil palm plantation, 5-yr, 10-yr, 15-yr rubber plantation, food cropland, and scrubland were evaluated. The study found that soil in oil palm and rubber plantations of any age have a similar texture, bulk density (BD), and actual soil moisture (ASM). All plantation agroecosystems and scrubland have higher clay and lower silt content than that in food cropland. In addition, the scrubland has the highest ASM content among the agroecosystems. On the other hand, both agroecosystems enhances soil chemical properties than food cropland and scrubland as indicated by the improvement of organic-C, total-N, available P, exchangeable K and CEC of Ultisols. Older plantation also provides higher soil chemical improvement than younger one. This finding is significant for management of sub optimal soil mainly Ultisols for oil palm and rubber plantation.
