Abstract

Dual-career student-athletes must be supported by rigorous training and academic processes that suit their needs. Unfortunately, student-athletes' academic performances are not as satisfactory as their sports achievements. Their sports training and the academic process are needed. This qualitative study aimed to analyze the academic services student-athletes receive from faculty and their expectations. A total of 30 studentathletes who had achieved sports achievements at regional, national, and international levels were interviewed about academic services ranging from planning, materials, learning processes, assessment, and expectations. The data were analyzed using the NVivo application. The findings of this study are that student academic services are stated to be the same between student-athletes and non-athletes. The faculty has provided special licensing services for student-athletes; there needs to be a better alignment of faculty and lecturer-level licensing. Student-athletes feel that the allocation of academic activities needs to be lowered, assignments are not by theconditions of student-athletes, and students need special athlete classes that are flexible to rigorous sports activities

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the form of educational services for students who are also pursuing professions as outstanding athletes. In general, outstanding athletes often face a dilemma when faced with the obligations they also have to carry out in their formal education. Starting from class schedules, and assignments to exams that they have to complete during training and match schedules. This research involved 34 outstanding student-athletes who had at least won a bronze medal in a South Sulawesi provincial-level championship event. This research will analyze the context, input, processes, and products of existing educational services, including distance programs, special athlete schools, and programs at sports training centers. The goal is to identify problems and suitability of available special education services and create a destination where athletes can excel in both sports and academics. The conclusion obtained in this research is that at the primary to secondary education level, there are no special regulations made by schools to accommodate outstanding student-athletes as a form of support for student-athlete careers. Another interesting finding in this research was that 90% of student-athlete respondents preferred and understood practical lecture material more easily than theoretical material.

Abstract

This study is designed to determine the level of motivation rugby 7s athletes in Indonesia after the covid-19 pandemic. The research method used is a survey method with a quantitative descriptive type of research. Participants in this study included 76 female rugby 7s athletes (average athlete age = 19 ± 3.66 years, min = 13 years, max = 27 years, average height = 157.9 ± 6.45 cm, average weight = 54.6 ± 10.24 kg, training experience = 2.1 ± 1.72 years). The instrument used is a google form as a training motivation questionnaire that is distributed to all rugby 7s athletes throughout Indonesia. The results of this study showed the level of motivation of female rugby 7s athletes in Indonesia with results of 2.6% of athletes in the very high category, 11.8% of athletes in the high category, 48.7% of athletes in the medium category, 30.3% of athletes in the low category, and 6.6% of athletes in the very low category. There was a decrease in training intensity by 36.6%, a decrease in exercise frequency by 42.1%, and a decrease in exercise duration by 30.3%. These findings provide initial support as a benchmark in determining the training program that will be designed for the next target event so that it can contribute to increasing the motivation of 7s rugby athletes in Indonesia. Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the effect of speed-endurance training on increasing aerobic capacity (VO₂max) among students participating in extracurricular futsal activities. Materials and Methods: This study involved 35 male futsal extracurricular students divided into an experimental group (n = 20; age 14.70 ± 0.47 years, height 159.20 ± 7.57 cm, weight 53.25 ± 7.61 kg, BMI 20.02 ± 1.59) and a control group (n = 15; age 14.60 ± 0.51 years, height 160.20 ± 2.43 cm, weight 53.80 ± 5.24 kg, BMI 20.93 ± 1.56). The experimental group underwent four weeks of Speed Endurance Soccer Training (SEST), while the control group participated in regular futsal training. Aerobic endurance (VO₂max) was measured using the beep test during pretest and posttest. Statistical analysis using SPSS 27 revealed normally distributed residuals (Shapiro–Wilk p = 0.053) but unequal variances (Levene's test p < 0.001); therefore, Quade's nonparametric ANCOVA with the pretest as a covariate was applied, followed by pairwise comparisons. Significance was set at p < .05. Result: All variables were normally distributed (Shapiro–Wilk p = 0.053), but the homogeneity assumption was violated (Levene’s test p < .001). Therefore, the data were analyzed using Quade’s nonparametric ANCOVA, which showed a significant group effect after controlling for the pretest scores (F(1,33) = 46.70, p < .001). Pairwise comparison confirmed that the experimental group achieved significantly higher posttest VO₂max scores than the control group (t(33) = −6.83, p < .001). Conclusion: Speed-endurance training effectively improved students' aerobic capacity and proved to be a practical, efficient method that can be readily implemented in school-based futsal training programs.

Abstract

Limited access to clean water in remote indigenous communities remains a critical challenge due to geographical barriers, inadequate infrastructure, and the low adoption of technologies aligned with socio-cultural contexts. Most clean water treatment initiatives tend to overlook the use of locally sourced materials and community participation, resulting in poor sustainability of interventions. This study aimed to design and implement a simple water filtration technology utilizing locally available materials, adaptive to indigenous knowledge, while enhancing clean water literacy and community health. Employing a community-based participatory approach within an action research framework, the project was conducted in Sukatain Hamlet, East Lombok, involving 30 purposively selected participants. The stages comprised problem identification, design and testing of a multi-layer filtration system (gravel, sand, coconut shell charcoal), hands-on training, and monitoring–evaluation based on laboratory tests and thematic analysis. Results demonstrated a significant reduction in turbidity (from 50 NTU to 3 NTU), color (from 80 TCU to 5 TCU), and odor score (from 4 to 1), all meeting the Indonesian Ministry of Health standards. Incidences of diarrhea decreased by 80% and skin infections by 83% within three months post-implementation. These findings underscore that integrating technical innovation with indigenous wisdom not only improves water quality but also strengthens the technical and social capacity of communities, offering a replicable model for other indigenous areas in Indonesia.
