Abstract

This research examines the experiences of police working in conflict areas, how they adapt to situations that are prone to conflict, including their views on the conflicting parties, namely the community, companies and local governments as well as the communication barriers they experience with the new culture. This research focuses on the stories of the duties of Bintara, namely the police with the lowest rank in the police structure in conflict areas in Mesuji Regency, Lampung Province, Indonesia. The stories of Bintara who served in this conflict area are very interesting to study and analyze after conducting long research on their lives. This study uses an ethnography approach with qualitative methods, where in-depth interviews and observation are data collection techniques. The results of this study indicate that there is no non-commissioned officer who wants to be placed in a tense area because of the conflict, threats to life that always loom, skin diseases, no clean water source, poisoned food, and communication barriers with the community are one cause, namely stereotypes and prejudices against conflict area communities. The stories of the police on duty as a result of this research are full of tension and life threats are explored in ethnography.

Abstract

The whole community should be involved in rural development. However, occasionally, some obstacles cause a lack of community participation. Therefore, several aspects, like socio-cultural and customary practices, are utilized for the rural development of indigenous peoples. This study aimed to analyze customary sanctions' function as social control in rural development for the indigenous Pepadun community in Srimenanti Village, Negara Batin sub-districts, Way Kanan Regency. This field research used a descriptive qualitative approach. The primary data were collected from interviews and observations, while the secondary data were assembled from Statistics Indonesia and customary records owned by informants. Transcription and description were conducted for data processing and analysis. As a result, customary sanctions enforced by Members of the Indigenous Council (Anggota Dewan Adat) have an important role in the social control of deviant behavior through agreed Bia (Biaya Adat/Customary Fees). Additionally, customary rules also play a role in filling both physical and non-physical rural development of the skills in the rural government and customary administrators. These customary sanctions run on community participation in complying with agreed customary rules.

Abstract

This study examines the customary elites' role in the local socio-political landscape in Lampung, Indonesia. The problem is that so far, the role of customary elites is often ignored in regional development, where they only become political symbols and are used for local political interests in the region. In this case study, customary elites attempt to manage their adat communities so that they make positive contributions to society. Adat still has a significant influence and plays an important role in the daily lives of the Lampung people. However, this is not just community-level regulation or customary law; it also has important cultural and social significance for the nation. This study uses qualitative research methods and an ethnographic approach. Data was collected through in-depth interviews and participant observation with analysis using data reduction, verification, data display, and data triangulation. The result showed that adat helps form and maintain social ties among local communities, contributing to government development programs and administrative changes. In the adat government, traditional elites also represent their adat communities. Adat shows flexibility towards change while preserving local wisdom and contributing to regional development. Customary elites and adat communities have great influence in society, and they are valued and respected by their collective members. Their role should be maximized by local governments in regional development because one of the keys to successful development is utilizing local wisdom because local wisdom is the element that is most adaptable and flexible in change.

Abstract

The public consumption process is starting to change, especially in online purchasing behaviour, where a TikTok Shop feature makes it easier for users to buy directly. However, there are complaints about the incompatibility of products with existing promotional content, which is a gap between the information users receive. This study aims to determine how much affiliate marketing content influences improving users' purchase decisions. This study uses quantitative methods. Data was collected using questionnaires. The data analysis method uses simple linear regression analaysis by performing clasiccal assumption testing using SPSS 25 for windows. The study respondents were 110 TikTok Shop users. The Content Marketing Affiliate study results can positively and significantly influence purchasing decisions on TikTok Shop, where the beta T test value is 0,081. Only 17,2% of the variation shows that other unexplored factors are present. This research aims to help affiliates focus on honest and informative content quality. As well as contributing to the development of media sociology theory.

Abstract

This article examines the activity and cultural product of Ngupi Pai, a tradition of drinking coffee together within Lampung cultural heritage, which has experienced an expansion of meaning from a domestic activity commonly carried out at home (lamban) to one also conducted in public spaces such as coffee shops. This transformation occurs alongside the development of media, information technology, urbanization, and multicultural social environments in cities. This study employs a qualitative approach with data collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation in Bandar Lampung. Data analysis was conducted using triangulation, peer review, and member checking to ensure the validity and credibility of the findings. The results show that Ngupi Pai has shifted from private to broader public spaces, where drinking coffee is no longer limited to consumption but has become a social trend of gathering in coffee-serving venues. Drawing on Douglas’s beverage construction theory, drinking practices possess sociocultural dimensions that contribute to social bonding, identity construction, and symbolic meaning production. Coffee functions as a medium that creates egalitarian and communicative interaction spaces, positioning coffee shops as arenas for tolerance, inter-ethnic harmony, and informal social diplomacy. This transformation strengthens the adaptive nature of Ngupi Pai within contemporary urban sociocultural dynamics

Abstract

This study explores the efforts of the Directorate of State Defense, Ministry of Defense, to foster State Defense awareness in the community through the State Defense Awareness Development Program (PKBN). Initially, this program was designed by the Indonesian Ministry of Defense as an effort to instill the values of nationalism and love of the homeland in the face of both military and non-military threats, especially among youth, community organizations, and civil society. However, these efforts still encounter obstacles in society, one of which is the perception and issue of military vs civilian hegemony. Using the anthropology of defense approach and Antonio Gramsci's theory of hegemony. According to Gramsci, lasting power is not only based on coercion, but also on agreements built through education, culture, and symbols in everyday life—and this is the state's primary role in the PKBN program. Bandar Lampung City, as a social space with a diverse population in terms of religion, ethnicity, and profession, is a strategic arena for the implementation of PKBN. This research uses qualitative methods, including in-depth interviews, observation, documents and focus group discussions (FGDs), to understand how the community interprets, accepts, or perceives State Defense attitudes socialized through the PKBN. The results of the study show that the efforts to socialize State Defense are very successful and adaptive, this is evidenced by the formation of State Defense forums in each region, socialization is carried out according to the tastes of young people, namely by making artists as models, and current youth habits such as drinking coffee, so the event "ngopi bareng Bela Negara" was created. This proves that the energy of State Defense already exists in each region and is trying to be liked by the younger generation. However, in areas such as Lampung, this is still limited to certain groups, where forum members are also mostly older people and have not yet expanded to the younger generation. The main obstacle is that many young people are not interested and some still think that state defense is an issue of military hegemony.  State defense is still considered a military task, so issues like this become one of the obstacles.
