Abstract

This study explores the integration of Chinese and Balinese cultural elements in poster design as a means of visual communication. This study aims to understand how cultural acculturation is manifested in poster design by integrating visual idioms from both cultures to convey messages of solidarity, tolerance, and cultural appreciation and preservation. Using qualitative research and a Design Thinking approach, this study seeks to present cultural acculturation values in poster design elements and evaluate their impact on the audience. The research findings demonstrate that the combination of Chinese and Balinese cultural symbols, colors, and patterns effectively produced a communicative and aesthetically appealing visual narrative. These findings highlight the significance of cultural comprehension in visual communication design and contribute to the development of culture-based design practices. This study enhances our understanding of the function of design in communicating cultural values.

Abstract

Early childhood (PAUD-TK) is considered a sensitive period in children, which is a period where certain functions need to be stimulated physically-motor, intellectual, social, and emotional. This form of stimulation is in the form of education and teaching in the families, communities, and schools. The effort also aims to raise the character of students, namely the subtlety of feeling (moral), which will then produce intelligence of the mind, and grow “will” power. To educate these feelings, Ki Hadjar Dewantara said that there are 2 things to go through, firstly, education on the subtleties of spiritual life which is called moral education and the second is aesthetic education. Ki Hadjar Dewantara included wayang as an aesthetic education that can smooth the feeling of beauty towards all external objects. Wayang is an ancestral heritage that is rich in artistic and cultural meaning that deserves to be introduced to early childhood. Wayang Godhong is one of them. Wayang puppets that come from godhong (leaves) of teak, tobacco, and coffee are from Gus Pur's ideas and should be introduced to children from an early age. As a result, they get to know Wayang Godhong, a unique contemporary wayang as a medium that will bring them closer to art and culture and a sense of love for nature. Through the service carried out in Magelang Regency, at PAUD Harapan Bunda Magelang, children are invited to see the manufacturing process, be directly involved in the practice of making wayang puppets using paper (and leaves), and see a simple performance by the wayang puppeteer (dalang) Pak Gus Pur.

Abstract

Sablon or screen printing has many functions and is usually more popular in the community for making t-shirts and banners and even batik cloth. The popularity of screen printing or screen printing, which is used by world-class artists, one of them Andy Warhol and also used by Marida Nasution, causes writers to feel inspired to work using this technique, because the technique is already popular in the community, making it easy to get tools and materials. To visualize this work, the author uses an art creation research methodology with an artistic creation process. The artistic creation process requires several stages to be passed, including experimentation, reflection and finally formation. The selection of these objects is indeed very interesting because these objects are increasingly disappearing in our lives. So that in this work, we try to marry or collaborate between modern art represented by graphic art with visual objects based on local wisdom that represent tradition. The paradigm of modern art with a touch of tradition as an effort to find the roots of the characteristics of Indonesia from year to year has begun to be explored by artists in Indonesia as an effort to find Indonesian cultural identity.Keyword: Sablon, Artistic Creative, Printmaking.

Abstract

This study explores the reception of monkey and crocodile figures depicted on one of the relief panels of Sojiwan Temple in Klaten, Central Java, Indonesia. The Sojiwan Temple reliefs visualize fairy tales from the Jataka, a collection of fables that often convey contextual and didactic themes. Through the lens of reception theory, this study identifies life lessons such as intelligence, dexterity, impartiality, and wisdom from the narrative panels of Sojiwan Temple and transforms them into ceramic art. Three ceramic artworks inspired by the monkey and crocodile reliefs highlight the notion that even a simple fairy tale does not possess a single, fixed meaning. Instead, there is a progressive interpretation that evolves with each reading of the reliefs at Sojiwan Temple. This research concludes that ceramics can serve as a medium to convey diverse interpretations, thereby enriching the aesthetic appreciation of the monkey and crocodile reliefs at Sojiwan Temple. Abstract

ABSTRACTThe essence of art is creating beauty. Since ancient times beauty is something that is always sought after by humans. The beauty is getting worse due to traditional art increasingly abandoned. Traditional art is all things related to values in a particular community which are maintained purely from generation to generation. In contrast to contemporary art, one of the most prominent and prominent characteristics in contemporary art is the disappearance of boundaries between art. Both forms and styles of fine arts need to be preserved by students as the next generation. The importance of preserving art is part of the preservation of the arts and culture of the nation's heritage. Traditional and contemporary art are taught in the realm of education, especially at the university level through fine arts courses. The purpose of this study is to find out the perceptions of art students on traditional art and contemporary art, so that students as young people can identify and determine their interest in one form and style between traditional and contemporary art. Keywords: Fine Art, Contemporary and Traditional

Abstract

Relief print is one of the techniques in graphic arts. The process of making a relief print is considered easy because it uses simple tools and materials, so that the artwork produced from this relief printing process is considered less creative and innovative. Conventional printmaking rules have predefined indicators. This creation research aims to produce novelty in graphic arts based on the concept of Javanese tradition. The method used is a mix of methods, namely the artistic creation process method: experimentation, reflection and creation of works. The creation of high-level printed artworks is made with a mix of media on the basis of Javanese tradition visually, so it is hoped that these works of art will be able to compete in the international world. The results of this creation research have innovations and creations in the form of contemporary art works extracted from Javanese traditional art.

Abstract

Relief print is a printmaking technique that is quite well known among the public. Relief print is considered static. This creation research aims to produce novelty by combining wood waste, references/matrixes in woodcut and Aja Dumeh's Javanese philosophy with artistic creation process methods: experimentation, reflection and creation of works. The creation of this matrix or reference is expected to be able to combine wood waste, reference/matrix in Relief print with Aja Dumeh's Javanese philosophy so that the resulting work is able to campaign about the importance of protecting the environment and also preserving culture, especially Javanese culture, so that it is expected to be able to compete in the international world. Abstract

Urip Iku Urup is a highly printed artwork made from plastic waste that serves as video art. Environmentally friendly relief prints used as video artworks motivate studies on their meanings. Thus, this study's problem is how to visualize the metaphor of the mountains (Gunungan) in the Urip Iku Urup video art. This qualitative-descriptive study seeks to discover the Gunungan metaphor in the video art by using the metaphor approach. The findings demonstrate that Urip Iku Urup's work uses the Gunungan metaphor as a manifesto for the three relationships between God, man, and nature. Gunungan, as a teaching in Javanese life philosophy, implies human desire or hope for future accomplishments.
