Abstract

The increasing consumption of corn in Makassar City generates abundant corn cob waste from households and SMEs (UMKM), which potentially pollutes the environment. This community service program aims to address the waste problem while simultaneously creating a sustainable new business opportunity for housewives. The method employed was training and practical demonstration of black ear mushroom cultivation using corn cobs as the growing medium for the BKMT Annisa Hidayah Women's Group in Mannuruki Village, Makassar, on August 23, 2025. The training covered waste potential counseling, growing media formulation, cultivation management, and harvesting methods. The activity was successfully implemented with high enthusiasm. Practical results show that the women were able to yield an initial harvest of 5–6 Kg per batch, which was successfully marketed at prices ranging from Rp35,000–Rp40,000 per Kg through social media. In conclusion, this program is effective in improving skills, creating profitable home-based business opportunities, and providing a positive impact on environmental sustainability by converting waste into a product of economic value.

Abstract

Efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions continue to encourage the transition from liquid fossil fuels to gaseous fuels, as gaseous fuels are expected to provide cleaner combustion and lower hydrocarbon emissions. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of a spark ignition engine with a carburetor fuel system operated using gasoline and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), and to analyze its energy balance based on the First Law of Thermodynamics. The energy balance consisted of input energy from air and fuel, useful output energy, and energy losses during combustion. The engine was operated at speeds ranging from 2000 to 5000 rpm. Fuel consumption was measured after the engine consumed 50 mL of gasoline and 50 g of LPG. The results showed that emissions of HC, CO, and CO2 from LPG were lower than those from gasoline. The useful energy produced by LPG combustion was lower than that of gasoline; however, LPG showed higher thermal efficiency due to lower Specific Fuel Consumption (SFC) and reduced energy losses. The conversion from gasoline to LPG in a carburetor system reduced emissions by approximately 7–73%, whereas the average reduction in an electronic fuel injection system was reported at 11–15%.

Abstract

This research is a laboratory experimental research using a TV-1 type testing machine. This study aims to determine the performance and exhaust emissions of a four-stroke motorcycle on pertalite fuel and fuel with a mixture of clove oil. The composition of the clove oil mixture used in the study. this is as much as 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% into pertalite fuel in units of milliliters (ml). Data collection uses observation techniques using observation tables to record the research results obtained. Data analysis techniques used descriptive analysis in the form of tables and graphs to present the research results. As for the research results from the analysis of engine performance, it was found that there was an increase in engine performance at low rpm with the addition of clove oil to pertalite fuel while for high rpm the greatest power was obtained on pure pertalite fuel. But for fuel consumption, the lowest consumption was found in the composition of 5% clove oil mixture. Whereas for exhaust emissions, the addition of clove oil to pertalite fuel for CO gas emissions can reduce emissions, namely the 10% clove oil mixture. For HC gas emissions, namely in a mixture of 5% and 10% clove oil. As for CO2 emissions, it can be seen that the higher the composition of the clove oil mixture, the emissions also decrease and the highest CO2 emissions are in the 5% clove oil mixture.

Abstract

Purpose – This study examined the implementation of a smart system-based trainer with multi-authentication in vocational motorcycle security-system learning. The trainer integrated fingerprint recognition, voice command, and smartphone-based control to support authentic and practice-oriented learning activities in vocational automotive education. The study aimed to evaluate whether the trainer was associated with improvements in students’ cognitive and practical competence within the instructional context of the study. Methods – This research employed a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design involving 60 students from the Motorcycle Business and Engineering Department at SMK Negeri 5 Gowa, Indonesia. The participants were divided into an experimental group and a control group using intact classroom assignment. Data were collected using competence tests, practical performance rubrics, observation sheets, and student response questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normalized gain (N-gain), assumption testing, and t-test analysis. Findings – The findings showed that the experimental group achieved higher posttest scores, stronger N-gain values, and better practical performance compared to the control group. The results also indicated more active classroom participation and positive student responses toward the instructional media in the experimental group. Research Implications – These findings suggest that the smart system-based trainer was associated with improved short-term cognitive and practical learning outcomes within the context of this classroom implementation. Originality – However, the findings should be interpreted cautiously because the study was conducted in one vocational school using non-randomized classroom groups and a relatively short intervention period. Therefore, the results represent initial empirical evidence rather than definitive proof of broad instructional effectiveness in vocational education.

Abstract

In this study, the effects of using gasoline (E0) and gasoline-ethanol blends E70 on engine performance and exhaust emissions have been experimentally investigated. The investigation was conducted on a single-cylinder, four-stroke, spark ignition engine. The experiments were performed by varying the compression ratio and duration injection (100%, 125%, 150%, 175% and 200%) at a speed of 2000 up to 8000 rpm at full open throttle. The experimental results showed that blending gasoline with ethanol slightly increased the torque and decreased carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbon (HC) emissions. It was also found that blending with ethanol allows increasing the compression ratio without knock occurrence.

Abstract

Subtitution of the fuel type in the gasoline engine will change the setting The engine parameters as well as modify it to minimize engine performance degradation And increased exhaust emissions. Utilization of ethanol (85% vol.) - gasoline (15% vol.) The combination (E-85) for the gasoline engine requires some machine modifications and setting parameters due to differences in properties and characters between ethanol and gasoline. This study aims to test the effect of ignition timing and compression ratio on the performance of the engine and emission gas emissions. Ignition time varies between 16-24 Before Top Dead Center (BTDC) d. While the compression ratio variation consists of 11 (standart); 12, 12.5 and 13: 1. It was found that advancing the ignition time range 16o-24o BDTC with 13: 1 compression ratio can increase the performance of torque, bmep, and thermal efficiency respectively 7.94%, 5, 82% and 1.6% respectively, and a decrease of emissions of co and hc respectively 56.6% and 0.6% when compared with the performance of standard gasoline-fueled engines (E0).

Abstract

The cooling process of steel after undergoing the welding process will affect the changes in the microstructure of the steel and will also have an impact on the tensile strength, elasticity and strain and brittleness of the steel. This study aims to determine the mechanical properties of AISI 1060 steel, including tensile strength, elasticity, and length increase after the material goes through the welding process. The welding method applied in this study is V-weld with a position of 1G, which is carried out on 9 specimens with dimensions of 200 x 20 x 8 mm (L x W x T). The welded specimens are then cooled for 10 minutes before tensile testing is carried out. The results of the study showed that the used oil cooling medium has a greater tensile strength compared to the cooling media of tap water and well water. The high tensile strength value causes the steel to undergo a greater strain process, resulting in strain values of 2.2380%, 0.053%, and 0.1063% for steel cooled with used oil, tap water, and well water, respectively.
