Abstract

The issue of organic waste management in densely populated residential areas, such as Tegal Harum Village in West Denpasar, represents a critical challenge within the broader framework of sustainable development and the advancement of environmentally friendly tourism (green tourism). Despite the village’s considerable natural and socio-cultural potential, constraints such as limited land availability, insufficient public knowledge, and low levels of active community participation in organic waste management pose significant barriers to the realization of a clean and healthy living environment. In response to these challenges, a community empowerment program was initiated, emphasizing capacity building through training and education on the processing of household organic waste into value-added products—specifically eco-enzyme, a fermented liquid derived from organic waste that offers multiple environmental benefits. This initiative not only focused on imparting technical knowledge and practical skills related to eco-enzyme production but also incorporated participatory approaches aimed at fostering collective awareness and community responsibility regarding independent waste management. Through a structured methodology encompassing training, mentoring, and systematic monitoring, the program has effectively enhanced residents’ understanding of waste segregation, organic waste utilization, and the reinforcement of mutual cooperation (gotong royong) values as the foundation for a resilient and empowered green community. The outcomes of this initiative have demonstrated positive environmental, social, and economic impacts, while also strengthening the position of Tegal Harum Village as a model of educational green tourism in Bali.

Abstract

Plastic waste have been a problem for the sustainability of tourism, especially Bali. Efforts to reduce plastic waste have been carried out by the government, such as the issuance of Denpasar Mayor Regulation Number 36 of 2018 and then followed by Bali Governor Regulation Number 97 of 2018. This paper aims to find out the opinions and changes in behavior of Balinese people, especially in Denpasar City after the enactment of the Denpasar Mayor Regulation and the Bali Governor Regulation about plastic waste. Data collection carried out through questionnaires distributed to tourists, students (tourism department), traders, the general public, and Lecturer. The result is everyone is aware of the government regulation on limiting single-use plastic bags, but some residents only know about the existence of government regulations without knowing where the regulations came from. Most of the people agree with the policy, but there are also people who disagree because the use of plastic bags is more efficient, however. This policy has led people to cultivate bringing their shopping bags.

Abstract

Kedisan Pier gives a new feel of traveling in Batur, with a concept like a pier in South Korea, but also provides views of Lake Batur and Mount Batur simultaneously. Tourists not only visit restaurants, hot springs, hikes, and stay overnight but can also visit the Kedisan Pier Area. The increase in tourist visits influences the condition of water quality in Lake Batur. This study aims to determine the influence of the construction of Kedisan Pier on tourist visits and the quality of Lake Batur water. This study used a purposive sampling method; sampling was carried out at three points representing settlements and agriculture, water bodies/middle of lakes, and dock. The samples were tested for pH and temperature in the field and COD parameters in the laboratory. Furthermore, these three parameters are compared with Class 1 lake water quality standards in Government Regulation 22 of 2021. Based on the results, it is known that the pH and COD in the three locations exceed the class 1 water quality standard, which is 10 mg / L. pH in the range of 9.2 – 9.5. Increased COD concentration compared to the quality standard at point 1 by 127%; Point 2 is 82%, and Point 3 is 144%. Domestic activities cause the high pH and COD values at these three points—the highest COD value in the Kedisan Pier area. The construction of Kedisan Pier impacts the increasing number of tourists but also causes a decrease in Lake Batur's water quality. Based on this, human awareness is needed to increase tourism while maintaining the quality of waters for the future benefit of humans, flora, and fauna. In addition, further research needs to be carried out using other microbiological and chemical parameters to see the quality of Lake Batur waters.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of tourism on the water quality of Lake Beratan based on BOD and COD parameters. This research method uses descriptive quantitative through environmental analysis. Lake Beratan water sampling was taken at 3 points, point 1 representing settlements and agriculture, point 2 representing the middle of the lake, and point 3 representing tourist areas. The data obtained was compared with the Class 1 Lake Water Quality Standards, Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021. The results showed that the BOD parameters still met the quality standards, so there were not too many organic pollutants in Lake Beratan. While the COD parameter exceeds the quality standard at all points. This shows that chemical pollutants originating from domestic activities around Lake Beratan such as agriculture using fertilizers and pesticides as well as tourism activities such as restaurants cause an increase in the COD value.

Abstract

Purpose: The aims of this research is to analyze the effect of tourism on the water quality of Lake Beratan using BOD and COD parameters. Methodology: His research method uses descriptive quantitative through environmental analysis. Lake Beratan water sampling was carried out at 3 points, namely point 1 representing habitation and agriculture, point 2 representing the middle part of the lake, and point 3 representing the tourist area. The information obtained was compared with the Class 1 Seawater Quality Standards Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021. Results: The results showed that the BOD parameters still met the quality standards, so there was not too much organic contamination in Lake Beratan. While the COD parameter exceeds the quality standard, namely Point 1, which is 16 mg/L; point 2 is 12 mg/L and point 3 is 12 mg/L caused by domestic waste around Lake Beratan such as household activities, agriculture, restaurants and tourism. Seeing the high domestic polluters, it is hoped that the government will pay attention to policies in environmental management and work together with local communities, tourists and visitors in protecting the environment. Limitations: The limitation of this study lies in the lack of other supporting parameters used as indicators of water pollution such as phosphate, E.coli and Total coli, it is necessary to test these parameters to determine the water conditions of Lake Beratan more thoroughly. Contribution: The output from this study are expected to be one of the references in making policies based on the data presented to make the right policies, especially to increase the positive of Lake Beratan.
