Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of contextual grammar teaching using picture series on high school students' writing skills. While contextual grammar approaches and visual media have been widely discussed, limited studies integrate both to enhance writing skill. This study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental research design. The population consisted of 16 tenth-grade student at SMA NWDI Pringgabaya in the 2024/2025 academic year. Writing tests were for data collecting, consisting of a pre-test and a post-test. The data analysis showed that pre-test score was 55.38, while the post-test score was 66.88. A paired sample t-test analysis showed that a significance value of 0.000 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the students' pre-test and post-test results. Thus, it is can concluded contextual grammar learning using picture series has effective in improving high school students’ writing skills.

Abstract

PHBS merupakan singkatan dari Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat yaitu sekumpulan perilaku yang dipraktekkan atas dasar kesadaran sebagai upaya agar dirinya sehat dan aktif membantu kesehatan lingkungan di sekitarnya. PHBS pada usia dini sangat baik untuk mendidik dan menanamkan kesadaran akan pentingnya kebersihan sebagai upaya menjaga kesehatan diri dan lingkungan. Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pengetahuan dan pemahaman tentang PHBS kepada anak sekolah dalam hal ini siswa-siswi SDN 1 TOYA sehingga siswa-siswi SDN 1 TOYA dapat mempraktekkannya dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Metode pelaksanaan dilakukan dengan penyuluhan menggunakan    in-focus, note book dan beberapa alat peraga. Penyuluhan PHBS pada anak sekolah berjalan lancar, semua peserta baik Siswa SDN 1 TOYA antusias mengikuti kegiatan PKM ini.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan video bersubtitel bahasa Inggris dalam meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa dalam teks naratif. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain kuasi-eksperimental. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas sepuluh di MA NW Ijobalit, dengan total 36 siswa yang berpartisipasi. Dua kelas dipilih: kelas X-A (18 siswa) sebagai kelompok kontrol dan kelas X-B (18 siswa) sebagai kelompok eksperimen. Kelas eksperimen diajar dengan menggunakan video bersubtitel bahasa Inggris, sedangkan kelas kontrol diajar dengan menggunakan metode konvensional. Data dikumpulkan melalui pre-test dan post-test, yang masing-masing terdiri dari 20 pertanyaan pilihan ganda. Analisis data meliputi uji normalitas, uji homogenitas, dan Independent Samples t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan yang signifikan pada nilai pemahaman membaca kelas eksperimen dibandingkan dengan kelas kontrol. Nilai signifikansi (Sig. 2-tailed) dalam uji-t adalah 0,001, yang kurang dari 0,05, yang menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan secara statistik antara kedua kelompok. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan video bersubtitel bahasa Inggris efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa terhadap teks naratif. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa video semacam itu dapat menjadi media pembelajaran yang menarik dan efektif untuk mendukung perkembangan membaca siswa di sekolah menengah atas.

Abstract

This study aims at investigating the effectiveness of the Snake and Ladder game as a learning medium to improve English vocabulary mastery among seventh-grade students at SMPN 1 Sikur during the 2025/2026 academic year. A quantitative approach with experimental design was employed, involving an experimental group that used the Snake and Ladder game and a control group that received conventional instruction. The type of test that used in the study was multiple choice, consist of 20 items, was administered both before and after the treatment. The experimental group’s mean score improved from 63.97 to 83.79, while the control group’s mean score increased from 66.24 to 80.41. A t-test yielded a significance value of 0.01, indicating that the difference between groups was statistically significant. These results demonstrate that the Snake and Ladder game is effective in enhancing students’ vocabulary mastery. Furthermore, the study suggests that integrating educational games into language teaching can make learning more engaging, increase student motivation, and foster active participation.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of formative and summative assessments in enhancing the speaking skills of sixth-semester EFL students at Hamzanwadi University. Although numerous studies have explored assessment practices in language learning, limited attention has been given to how both formative and summative assessments specifically influence EFL learners’ speaking performance in the Indonesian higher education context. To address this gap, the study employed a qualitative descriptive design, collecting data through questionnaires and interviews to explore students’ perceptions, experiences, and reflections regarding both assessment types. Findings reveal that formative assessment has a greater positive impact on speaking performance, offering regular feedback, progressive practice, and improved confidence while reducing anxiety. Summative assessment, while motivating, often induces stress, limits feedback, and may not fully reflect students’ actual abilities. The study concludes that formative assessment is more effective in supporting speaking development and recommends a balanced approach that emphasizes formative processes while using summative evaluation as a complementary measure.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the correlation between the learning environment and motivation on students’ speaking skills at MA NWDI Gereneng. Speaking is one of the essential components in English language learning, requiring not only linguistic mastery but also psychological support and a motivating environment. This research applied a quantitative correlational method involving 20 eleventh-grade students. The instruments used were a learning environment questionnaire, a motivation questionnaire, and a speaking test assessed through four indicators: fluency, accuracy, interaction, and comprehensibility. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression. The results showed a very strong and significant correlation between the learning environment and speaking skills (r = 0.975, p 0.01), and between motivation and speaking skills (r = 0.950, p 0.01). Simultaneously, both variables significantly influenced students’ speaking performance, with a determination coefficient (R²) of 0.976. This means that 97.6% of the variation in students’ speaking skills can be explained by their learning environment and motivation. These findings emphasize the importance of a supportive, engaging classroom environment, along with the development of both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, in enhancing students’ speaking ability in English. Teachers and schools should focus on creating positive classroom conditions and encouraging student motivation to support the success of English language learning.

Abstract

This study looks into how YouTube can help people become more fluent in English speakers. The goal of this study was to generate thorough findings that could be utilized as a teaching tool to help educators, instructors, and students get better at speaking English. A speaking test was used as the research instrument, and the sample for this study consisted of 28 students in class VII from SMPN 4 Pringgabaya. Students took a pre-test and a post-test to gauge their proficiency speaking English; the pre-test was administered before they utilized YouTube as a learning tool, and the post-test was administered following their use of YouTube. Microsoft Excel was used for the statistical analysis of the data. According to study results, the N-gain score is 0.51—that is categorized as having a minimal impact on students' ability to speak English while utilizing YouTube as a learning tool.

Abstract

Saat ini, permainan menjadi alat pengajaran paling populer untuk mempelajari kosakata bagi pelajar muda karena menyenangkan. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan permainan isyarat dalam meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata di kelas lima MI NWDI Serijata. Pre-test dan post-test satu kelompok digunakan dalam desain pra-eksperimental untuk penelitian ini. Partisipannya adalah 25 siswa kelas V MI NWDI Serijata sebagai sampel. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan pilihan ganda dan dianalisis menggunakan SPSS versi 22 for Windows. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata pre-test siswa adalah 40,64, sedangkan nilai rata-rata post-test siswa adalah 72,64. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata siswa meningkat sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan. Selanjutnya, Signifikansi Asimptotik (2-tailed) sebesar 0,00. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis diterima karena nilai Asymp—signifikansi (2-tailed) < 0,05. Hasilnya, penggunaan permainan isyarat untuk mengajarkan kosakata kepada siswa kelas lima di MI NWDI Serijata efektif dalam penguasaan kosakata siswa. Mempertimbangkan proses dan hasil penelitian ini, peneliti merekomendasikan agar guru bahasa Inggris menerapkan strategi ini saat mengajar kosakata.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menguji efektivitas atau dampak pembelajaran berbasis proyek sederhana dalam mengajar keterampilan berbicara, khususnya untuk unsur pemahaman berbicara. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian pra-eksperimental, dan untuk mengumpulkan data, peneliti menggunakan pre-test, perlakuan, dan post-test. Partisipan penelitian terdiri dari 20 siswa sebagai sampel di SMAN 1 Sembalun. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat kontribusi signifikan dari pembelajaran berbasis proyek sederhana dalam mengajar keterampilan berbicara, khususnya untuk unsur pemahaman berbicara. Data menunjukkan bahwa skor rata-rata pada pre-test adalah 43.00 dengan deviasi standar 11.286. Pada post-test, skor rata-rata meningkat menjadi 81.0500, dan deviasi standar menurun menjadi 10.26222. Berdasarkan hasil ini, nilai signifikansi adalah <0.05, yang menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis peneliti diterima, yang berarti pembelajaran berbasis proyek sederhana efektif untuk mengajar keterampilan berbicara, khususnya untuk unsur pemahaman berbicara.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji efek penggunaan podcast Spotify dalam meningkatkan keterampilan mendengarkan di kalangan pelajar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah desain pra-eksperimental, dan data dikumpulkan menggunakan tes pilihan ganda. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari 20 siswa kelas XI IPA di SMA Yadinu Masbagik. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan podcast Spotify secara signifikan meningkatkan keterampilan mendengarkan dan keterlibatan dibandingkan dengan metode pengajaran tradisional. Analisis data mengungkapkan bahwa skor rata-rata pada pre-test adalah 63,00 dengan deviasi standar 6,959. Setelah penerapan podcast Spotify, skor rata-rata pada post-test meningkat menjadi 84,75, sementara deviasi standar menurun menjadi 5,250. Nilai signifikansi hasil penelitian adalah <0,05, yang menunjukkan bahwa perbedaan yang diamati signifikan secara statistik. Dengan demikian, hipotesis penelitian diterima, yang berarti podcast Spotify terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan mendengarkan siswa.
