Abstract

Indonesia's textile industry has experienced significant growth, yet it faces environmental challenges from dye waste, such as Indigosol Blue, which is classified as hazardous and toxic, requiring special treatment. The use of activated carbon in the adsorption process has proven effective, and the Kepok banana (Musa paradisiaca x balbisiana) peel, with its high cellulose content, is a potential raw material for activated carbon. This research aims to produce adsorbents from Kepok banana peel, activated by HCl, to adsorb Indigosol Blue using an adsorption column. The production of activated carbon was conducted through carbonization and activation processes. HCl with a concentration of 37% was used as the activator, where the soaking process lasted for 24 hours, and the activation temperature was set at 90°C for 120 minutes. The activated carbon was characterized using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR).  Based on the results of SEM analysis that illustrates the differences in topography and morphology of kepok banana peel powder before and after activation using various concentrations of activating agents. The results of FTIR analysis, the presence of O-H and C-O bonds indicates that activated carbon derived from kepok banana peel has more polar characteristics. If the initial colorant is increased resulting in higher adsorption efficiency. The results of this study indicated that the optimal wavelength for the Indigosol Blue dye solution, was 624 nm. The best adsorption efficiency was 88.5%, and the maximum adsorption capacity of 0.24 mg/g was obtained with an adsorbent concentration of 30 ppm.

Abstract

Abstract

Setumpeng Reservoir in Gentungan Village, Mojogedang Subdistrict, Karanganyar Regency was a lively tourism spot. Unfortunately, Covid-19 pandemic made the tourism activity in this area to cease indefinitely. As the tourism activity ceased, the reservoir became neglected. In the near future, Gentungan Village plans to redevelop Setumpeng Reservoir as tourist spot once again. Nevertheless, the possibility of disaster in the area pushes the necessities of planning based on disaster mitigation and reduction. This study aims to create a hazard map to support the sustainable development of Setumpeng Reservoir tourism spot. The method used in this research are field survey to identify potential hazard in the area directly. Hazard that was found in Setumpeng Reservoir area reservoir failure and landslides. Area with high hazard zone is located in downstream of reservoir as this area would face the direct impact of reservoir failures. Area with medium hazard zone can be found in the south of the reservoir that only face small scale landslides. The last area of low hazard zone located in the north of the reservoir as it doesn’t face neither reservoir failure nor landslides. Yet even the area is relatively safe, further study is necessary as it’s a paddy field. A study regarding foundation and building stability is a must.

Abstract

Abstract This article contains a study on free fall motion. This study aims to calculate the free fall equations of motion using the Lagrangian and Newtonian equations and then compare them. The study was conducted through experimental activities in a virtual laboratory using a computer-assisted experimental tool called Algodoo with the simulation title "Free Fall". Experimental results on free fall motion show that calculations using the Lagrangian and Newtonian equations will yield the same results. The results of teaching materials can be used as an alternative to free fall equations of motion in high school physics.

Abstract

This training emphasizes the implementation of the Project Based Learning model and Wiggle Bot as learning tools to enhance teacher engagement as training participants with knowledge about the STEM approach in modern education. In this training session, the teachers worked in groups to design and create a Wiggle Bot, which will then be integrated into the curriculum. After successfully making the Wiggle Bot, the teachers identified the STEM components present in it. This aims to enable teachers to create various STEM projects that align with the learning and concepts of the material taught in class, thereby capturing the students' attention and indirectly engaging them actively in classroom learning. The active involvement of teachers as participants indicates positive feedback from this training. This training not only enhances teachers' skills but also deepens their understanding of STEM concepts and approaches.

Abstract

This training on developing STEM-based teaching modules aims to equip science teachers with the knowledge and tools needed to create teaching materials, such as modules, that will be used in classroom learning. The development of modules is not only relevant to the curriculum but also capable of integrating STEM concepts. This STEM-based teaching module can enhance critical thinking skills and foster students' creativity to face the challenges of the 21st century. The method in this training session began with the presentation of material on STEM education, guidelines for module development, explanations of examples and types of teaching modules, and provided teachers with the opportunity to collaborate or discuss with the facilitators. Because the module that has been developed is expected to integrate STEM concepts into learning materials both in the classroom and during independent study. Thus, in this training, it is hoped that it can have a positive impact on both teachers and students so that it can be implemented effectively in the classroom with a more interactive and innovative approach, thereby increasing students' interest in learning and enhancing their ability to solve complex problems.
