Abstract

Industrial noise is generally one of the risk factors for occupational and environmental safety and health. Noise is a risk factor for decreased hearing threshold value in addition to other factors such as age, working period. This study used a cross-sectional design that aimed to identify the hearing threshold level (HTL) of rice mill workers exposed to hazardous noise in Karanganyar Regency, and investigate the relationship with other factors such as age, tenure. Audiometric data from 92 participants were collected through audiometric examination by qualified personnel using an audiometer in a quiet environment. The test was conducted after the participants had rested completely for >14 hours after their last exposure to workplace noise. The results showed that all participants had worked in a noise-hazard work zone for >1 year. The participants' ages ranged from 28 to 57 years. The average hearing threshold in the right ear was 36.71 dB and the average hearing threshold in the left ear was 39.55 dB. The hearing loss associated with work experience was greater than that caused by noise intensity age. Noise intensity, age and working experience were significant to the workers' ear hearing threshold values. Multivariate test results show that noise intensity is the most influential factor (>60%) on HTL. HTL among industrial workers should be assessed regularly. At the health policy level, these workers need to start being protected when they start working.

Abstract

Surakarta is facing serious problems related to waste management at the Putri Cempo landfill. PT. Solo Citra Metro Plasma Power with the Surakarta city government built a waste power plant installation with gasification technology. Tar waste is a gasification liquid product that is dangerous if not managed. This study aimed to determine the heavy metal content and toxicity level of gasified tar waste using the atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) and lethal dose-50 (LD50) acute toxicity test. The parameters of heavy metals tested are lead (Pb), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), and total chromium (Cr). In the LD50 test, the animals were divided into 5 groups, namely 1 control group and 4 groups with doses of 0.50 mL, 1 mL, 2 mL, and 4 mL. The results showed that the tar contained 17.4 mg/L of iron, 3.5 mg/L of zinc, and <0.01 mg/L of lead, copper, and chromium. Acute toxicity tests did not cause death in the animals but still showed toxic symptoms, so the LD50 value is declared pseudo. The content of some heavy metals in tar is within safe limits and the level of toxicity is relatively harmless.

Abstract

Around 20% of the total population in Indonesia are digital comic readers and this number continues to increase from year to year. This increase has been accompanied by a rise in the number of digital comics on various platforms such as Webtoon, Mangatoon, Bilibili Comics, Manta, Tapas, RE:ON comics, Komikindo v7 and many more. On the other hand, the complexity of the teaching materials being delivered made students less interested in reading textbooks, including physics. Therefore, students are more engaged when the content is presented in the form of illustrated comics, especially in visualizing abstract concepts. This study aims to produce digital physics comics about the greenhouse effect, which can enchance students' literacy and motivation. It’s well known that global warming is a global issue that demands a broader understanding and is important to be recognized by the public including students, where one of the causes is the greenhouse effect. This comic seeks to support physics learning media. This study uses Research and Development (R&D) approach with a 4D method. The development stages consist of defining, designing, developing and disseminating. This physics digital comic explains the process of the greenhouse effect. This research shows that digital comics that have been developed have successfully become physics learning media that can increase students' literacy and motivation to learn about global warming and climate change.

Abstract

Sustainable development on a regional scale can be accelerated if organic farming management methods are adopted in Indonesia. This research utilized the Sustainability Assessment of Food and Agriculture (SAFA) framework due to its comprehensive coverage of sustainability and accessibility for producers and decision-makers. This study compared the sustainability of certified and non-certified organic as well as non-organic farms in Sleman Regency across four dimensions: good governance, environmental integrity, economic resilience, and social welfare, focusing on how different farming practices impact sustainability indicators. A total of 9 farmer groups participated in this study, categorized based on their farming practices and certification. The results unveiled that certified organic rice farming achieved the highest sustainability score. Specifically, certified organic farmer groups excelled in the economic sub-themes of product quality and information (82%) and local economy (90%), as well as the social sub-themes of labor rights (86%) and equality (80%). Meanwhile, non-certified organic farming performed highly in the local economy sub-theme (82%). In contrast, non-organic farming scored the highest in the sub-themes of investment economy (80%) and fair-trade practices (81%) but demonstrated low scores in holistic management (40%) and impact on the atmosphere (36%). Hence, certified organic rice farming outperformed non-certified organic and non-organic practices regarding sustainability. Key factors affecting farm sustainability included organic fertilizers, sustainable water management, local economic improvement, equity, labor conditions, biodiversity preservation, and product quality and information. These findings highlight the significance of adopting certified organic farming to achieve higher sustainability in agriculture.

Abstract

The purpose of the implementation of PkM was to increase students’ motivation and awareness of the importance of English in real life, especially for vocational high school students who think English is just beneficial in school. To fix this problem, 35 students took part in an interactive motivational workshop. The lesson focused on how English is used in real life for things like digital communication, job interviews, and business documents. A question-and-answer session followed to encourage active participation. After the session, a 25-question survey was distributed to assess the students’ change in motivation and perception. The PkM was held at SMK An Nur Slawi, a vocational high school located in Tegal Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ understanding of the role of English in professional and daily life. Many of them said they were more interested in using English outside of class and felt more confident doing so. Documentation and participant feedback indicated a highly positive and engaged atmosphere during the session. The results imply that using emotionally engaging methods to link learning English to students’ future professional aspirations can boost their long-term motivation. Other vocational high schools can use this methodology of teaching English to help students learn the language in a way that is more useful and meaningful.
