Abstract

Numeracy literacy is one of the basic competencies that support students' success in academic and social life. This study aims to analyze the numeracy literacy skills of junior high school students in Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi Province, Indonesia, particularly in the domain of numbers, based on local wisdom such as the traditional Souraja buildings and agricultural practices of the residents of Sigi Regency. The sample comprised 120 eighth-grade students from six public junior high schools in Sigi Regency, representing diverse geographical characteristics (mountainous, rural, and urban) and varying educational performance levels. They were selected through purposive sampling and the mixed methods approach with an Explanatory Sequential Design as the research methodology. Data were collected using a numeracy literacy test developed using the AKM framework and numeracy competence indicators from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (2023).  The results showed that only 10% of pupils reached the "Proficient" level. Most of them (65%) are in the ‘Basic’ or ‘Requiring Special Intervention’ group.  This decline in results is due to traditional teaching methods that fail to connect the material to the students' local environment.  Teaching math has not fully utilized local knowledge, such as how to do business in traditional markets and how to farm. These results indicate the need to revise the approach to teaching mathematics in schools, with an emphasis on integrating local knowledge into learning, namely, developing teaching methods that link mathematical concepts to students' daily lives, so that they are more relevant and engaging for students. In addition, this locally-based approach is expected to improve students' numeracy understanding and skills, especially for those who are still at a basic level or need special intervention. The development of a more contextual curriculum based on students' real experiences can also enrich the learning process and encourage significant improvement in academic outcomes.    Keywords: numeracy literacy, number domain, local wisdom of sigi.

Abstract

To describe the profile of the learning independence of Mathematics Education students at Alkhairaat University Palu during the Covid-19 Pandemic is the purpose of this study. Descriptive research with a qualitative approach is the method used in the research. The learning independence scale is given to students of the Mathematics Education Study Program at Alkhairaat University Palu in the third semester of the 2020-2021 academic year as a research instrument. Furthermore, 3 students who have high, medium, and low abilities were selected as subjects in the study. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The stages of data analysis carried out refer to the Miles & Huberman model, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions and verification. The findings describe nine indicators of student learning independence at each level of academic ability (high, medium, and low). From these findings, it was found that 1) the learning independence of mathematics education students during the Covid-19 pandemic was different for each level of academic ability, 2) students with high academic abilities met all indicators of learning independence very well, (3) students with moderate academic ability meets most indicators of learning independence very well, and (4) students with low academic ability meet several indicators of learning independence very well.

Abstract

Donggala woven has various patterns that can be used in the mathematics learning process. Qualitative research using the ethnographic method explored ethnomathematics in Donggala weaving based on geometry and calculus concepts. The data collection techniques were literature review, observation, interviews, and documentation. Observations were made at the Job Training Institution (JTI) and shops selling Donggala fabrics, and interviews were conducted with the head of the Donggala Weaving Association in the city of Palu. Data were analyzed using the Miles & Huberman model and triangulated based on sources, methods, and time. The findings show that Donggala weavings can be explored in the mathematics learning process to find geometry concepts (lines and angles and two-dimensional shapes), geometry transformations, and function graphs in calculus. The use of Donggala woven fabric is also intended to make learning more meaningful because it can be a concrete example of the mathematical concept and, at the same time, introduce local wisdom through mathematics learning.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Student Worksheets (LKPD) based on local wisdom in improving students' numeracy literacy in the subject of Two-Variable Linear Equation Systems (SPLDV). This study uses an pre-experimental design with pre-tests and post-tests to measure students' numeracy literacy. A total of 90 students from 3 public junior high schools in Sigi Regency participated in this study, which were selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used to collect data were tests, questionnaires, and interviews, which were then analyzed using qualitative analysis for questionnaires and interviews and quantitative analysis for test instruments. The results showed a significant increase in post-test scores, with an average pre-test score of 42.86 and a post-test score of 84.17. Data analysis showed an effect size of 2.06, which is classified as very large, indicating a strong impact of the use of local wisdom-based LKPD in improving students' numeracy literacy. In addition, the results of the student response questionnaire showed that the majority of students (80%) felt that LKPD based on local wisdom helped them understand SPLDV material better and made learning more interesting and relevant to their lives. This study concludes that LKPD based on local wisdom is effective in improving students' numeracy literacy and can be an attractive and contextual learning alternative in areas with rich local cultures, with the hope that it can be used as a reference for teachers in designing more contextual mathematics learning tools.
