Abstract

One of the causes of stunting is due to inadequate nutrition during adolescence. One prevention that can be done is to approach the life cycle at the adolescent stage, especially adolescent girls as a preparation stage for prospective mothers from an early age. Young women must be prepared to enter the preconception period. These young women have a very big opportunity to break the chain of stunting. One intervention that can be carried out is providing education about balanced nutrition through the contents of my plate as early as possible to prevent stunting. The purpose of this community service is to increase knowledge about the contents of my plate. Carrying out service activities by providing education through giving ebooks about the contents of my plate to young women at SMPN 1 Ciamis. To measure the knowledge of young women with a pre-post test. The results of Community Service include an increase in young women's knowledge about the contents of my plate as a means of preventing stunting.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem caused by prolonged inadequate nutrient intake and recurrent infections, leading to impaired growth and development in children. Globally, stunting remains a major public health challenge, particularly in developing countries, including Indonesia. Stunting does not only affect physical growth but also impacts cognitive development, productivity, and future health risks. Adolescents, especially girls, are an important target group in stunting prevention because they are future mothers who will determine the nutritional status of the next generation. Adopting positive attitudes and behaviors regarding nutrition during adolescence is crucial to break the intergenerational cycle of stunting. The Indonesian Ministry of Health has introduced the My Plate guidelines as a practical approach to promote balanced nutrition, emphasizing the importance of appropriate food portions that consist of vegetables, fruits, protein, and carbohydrates. Objective: This study aimed to determine adolescent girls’ attitudes toward the My Plate program as one of the strategies to prevent stunting. Method: This descriptive study involved 214 adolescent girls at SMPN 1 Ciamis, selected using accidental sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire on attitudes toward My Plate. The data were analyzed using univariate methods to obtain frequency distributions. Results:  The findings showed that 112 respondents (52.3%) had negative attitudes, while 102 respondents (47.7%) demonstrated positive attitudes. Although the difference was slight, the results indicate that most adolescent girls still have a less supportive attitude toward the implementation of My Plate in daily life. Conclusion: Adolescent girls’ attitudes toward My Plate remain predominantly negative, highlighting the need for strengthened nutrition education. Schools and health services are encouraged to collaborate in conducting routine counseling on balanced nutrition and the importance of My Plate to foster more positive attitudes and support stunting prevention efforts.

Abstract

Introduction: Infancy is a golden period in a child's life, marked by rapid and significant physical growth and motor, cognitive, language, and social-emotional development. Infant development and growth are interrelated processes that greatly determine the quality of human resources in the future. Infancy, especially between 0 and 12 months, is called the golden period because brain development is rapid during this period. Babies need appropriate and continuous stimulation, a safe environment, and adequate nutrition. One important external factor that can affect the optimal growth and development of children is stimulation. Lack of stimulation in early life can cause delays in children's motor, language, cognitive, and social-emotional development. Objective: The purpose of this community service activity is to increase mothers' knowledge and understanding of the importance of stimulating the growth and development of babies aged 0-12 months. Method: The method used in this activity was counseling in the form of interactive lectures. Result: The results of Community Service show an increase in knowledge of 20 points compared to the pre-test average score, which is equivalent to an increase of 33.33% in counseling on child growth and development. This increase shows that counseling with interactive lectures is effective in increasing participants' knowledge. Conclusion: Community service activities in the form of counseling accompanied by interactive lectures have been proven to increase mothers' knowledge and understanding of the importance of stimulating the growth and development of babies aged 0-12 months.
