Abstract

This research was motivated by problems found in the field that students had difficulty in writing explanatory texts, besides that the problems began due to students' lack of interest in writing and the use of inappropriate learning strategies. The study aims to (1) Describe the application of critical incident learning strategies to the ability to write explanatory texts in grade VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Cikampek, (2) Describe student learning outcomes in the application of critical incident learning strategies to the ability to write explanatory texts in grade VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Cikampek. The author uses a quantitative approach with quasi-experimental methods and nonequivalent control group design. The correlation between the research design and the objectives of this study is the use of two classes that will be compared before and after receiving treatment. Research processing using SPSS software version 26. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Cikampek by taking two classes as samples, namely classes 7G and 7J, each consisting of 40 students. The study sample was taken by purposive sampling. There are three stages in this study, namely pretest, treatment or treatment and posttest. Pretest is conducted to determine the initial ability of students in writing explanatory texts before getting treatment. After being given a pretest, researchers gave treatment using critical incident strategies for experimental classes, while control classes used conventional strategies. The next step is to give a posttest to students to see the influence of the strategy used. Based on the results of the study, it was stated that the average score of the experimental class pretest and posttest scores were 44.9 and 78.4 and it showed that the posttest and pretest scores had a difference of 33.5. While the average score of the control class pretest and posttest scores of 43.1 and 61.3 shows that the two scores have a difference in value of 18.3. This shows that the experimental class is higher than the control class. Furthermore, the results of the hypothesis test with a significant level of 0.000 < 0.05 which means Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted and the hypothesis test of N-gain value with a significant level of 0.000 < 0.05 which means Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Thus, the conclusion is that there is an influence of critical incident learning strategies in the ability to write explanatory texts in grade VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Cikampek.

Abstract

Language politeness is one part of the science of pragmatics based on the principles of politeness. Language politeness plays a role in maintaining and upholding one's self-image. This belief arises because most utterances have the potential of both the speaker and the speech partner, and language politeness aims to reduce threats to self-image through better communication. Therefore, politeness can be explained as an effort to avoid conflict between the speaker and the interlocutor in the communication process. The aim of this research is to describe the principles of language politeness used by Elpi Nazmuzzaman spokesperson in the Eril Search Process and make recommendations for the results of the analysis as teaching materials for Indonesian language learning in Class VIII Middle Schools. This research uses the polite principles of Lecch's theory by applying a qualitative descriptive approach. The results of the research from the 3 videos used, found that a total of 35 utterances were used in total and 29 utterances that complied with the maxims of politeness were more widely used, while 6 utterances violated the maxims of politeness. Based on the data, maxims of praise and maxims of agreement are the types of maxims that are often used by Elpi Nazmuzzaman in speeches. The results of the research carried out will be recommended as teaching material in the form of digital handouts on speech text material at junior high school level. Teaching materials will be adapted to Phase D class VIII with CP writing elements. This teaching material can be used by teachers during the learning process regarding speech texts and helps students understand the concept of speeches, the structure of speech texts, and students' ability to judge whether the sentences spoken by the speaker are polite or not.

Abstract

This research aims to describe, (1) the use of language styles in the weekly Jawa Pos short stories, and (2) the language styles that tend to or appear most frequently in the weekly Jawa Pos short stories. To achieve this goal, researchers used a qualitative descriptive research design. The subject of this research is short stories in the February 2023 edition of the weekly Jawa Pos newspaper. The object of the research is the use of language style in the short stories of the weekly Jawa Pos newspaper. The method used to collect data is the documentation method. The results of this research show that: (1) the language styles in the Jawa Pos weekly short stories are very diverse. There are 20 types of language styles, namely imagery, metaphor, personification, antithesis, pleonasm, anticipation, correction, hyperbole, climax, paradox, euphemism, antonomasia, metonomia, paralism, anaphora, mesodilopsis, epanalepsis, epizeuksis, assonnsi, and tautotes. (2) the language style that is dominant or often appears in the short stories of the Jawa Pos Online News Portal, namely, the hyperbole language style totaling 16 data.

Abstract

It is a descriptive qualitative study. The data found in this study is speech on the scale of language civility, on reels in the helobagas instagram account. The source of the data in this study is the video of reels on the instagram account of helobagas from March 2023 to June 2023. The date-collecting technique by actively reviewing capable libat (SLBC) by listening and then recording the comments found in reels' videos on the helobagas instagram account. Eight data found that match the civility scale according to leech. The fulfillment of the linguistic scale is dominated by a social distance scale, with six data, in which it appears that the mention of the first person's pronoun address (I) with the second person (You) seems to be relaxing because of having a social distance close to the other person. Meeting the scale of loss and gain as much as one data, that is, the scale of the benefits acquired by the person of speech, is the prayer uttered by speakers as' me 'and' me 'persons who are lost in grief because of not being able to forget the character' you. ' The scale of impermanence has been found as much as one data, where it has been found that speech that implies that no one wants a farewell from the other person, the 'you'. No fulfillment on the scale of choice and authoritativeness.
