Abstract

Snakehead fish (Channa striata) is a type of freshwater fish that contains high levels of protein albumin. The research was conducted to determine the albumin content in snakehead fish after the cooking process, both steamed and wrapped. The research was conducted using a completely randomized design with a factorial pattern, the first factor was the cooking method (steamed and wrapped) and the second was cooking time (10, 15, 20, and 20 minutes). Determination of protein albumin levels in snakehead fish after processing using the Biuret method. The steaming process for 15 minutes resulted in protein content in the snakehead fish of 0.76%, while the protein albumin that was lost was 19.28%. The wrapped method for 20 minutes has a remaining protein content of 0.59%, while the missing protein is 38.78%. The method of processing snakehead fish by steaming is better than the wrapping process.

Abstract

A study has been conducted on materials containing polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) coated with poly eugenol. This research aims to explore the synthesis process and properties of PVA coated with poly eugenol. Characterization of PVA includes tensile strength measurement and surface observation using SEM. Additionally, the antioxidant activity of PVA was also tested using the DPPH method. In this study, PVA films were obtained by dissolving PVA in a water solvent. The characterization results indicate that the tensile strength ranges from 25.56 to 271.10 Mpa, elongation reaches 315.20 to 320%, and the young modulus ranges from 4.05 to 6.27 Mpa. Surface observation with SEM shows a smooth surface without pores. The antioxidant activity test shows IC50 values ranging from 84.11 to 175.37 ppm.

Abstract

Research has been conducted on the synthesis and characterization of Mn-N-TiO2/Bentonite composites for the degradation of organic pollutants. This study aims to synthesize the Mn-N-TiO2/Bentonite composite as a catalyst in degrading congo red in visible light and to determine the effect of irradiation time on the effectiveness of photodegradation of congo red catalyzed Mn-N-TiO2/Bentonite. The synthesis of the Mn-N-TiO2/Bentonite composite was carried out using the sol-gel method. Characterization was carried out with UV-Vis DRS, XRD, FTIR, and SEM-EDX. A photocatalytic activity test on Congo red degradation was carried out using ultraviolet and visible lamps. The results of the characterization of the Mn-N-TiO2/Bentonite configuration show that the band gap energy of Mn-N- TiO2/Bentonite with a variation of 5 g has a band gap energy of 2.14 eV with anatase crystal form. In the IR spectrum, there is a shift in wave number from 1634.49 to 1433.11cm-1, there is the vibration of the NO bond, absorption below 1000 cm-1 indicates the presence of Mn-O bonds, and absorption at wave number 1049.28 cm-1 indicates the presence of ions. manganese metal trapped in the TiO2 matrix. This spectrum indicated the presence of manganese and nitrogen. These results were confirmed by the EDX instrument, which showed the presence of 0.60% Mn and 0.04% N. SEM results show that particles that are still agglomerated and have a large size, which is influenced by water vapor in the TiO2 crystal structure. The results showed that the photodegradation activity increased significantly up to 40.9075% at 30 minutes of irradiation for the Mn-N- TiO2/Bentonite composite and 20.0225% under exposure to ultraviolet light.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang studi variasi suhu dan konsentrasi larutan asam sitrat terhadap karakteristik silika daun tebu menggunakan metode leaching dengan 3 variasi suhu 60ºC, 80ºC, 100ºC dan 3 variasi konsentrasi 8%, 10%, 12%. Metode yang dilakukan ialah preparasi daun tebu, sintesis silika daun tebu menggunakan metode leaching dengan asam sitrat, dan pembakaran daun tebu hasil leaching asam sitrat. Pengujian dilakukan untuk memperoleh silika murni. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui variasi suhu dan konsentrasi larutan asam sitrat terhadap karakteristik silika daun tebu yang diperoleh dengan metode leaching. Hasil penelitian diperoleh 3 analisis yaitu, untuk analisis XRD menunjukan didapatnya hasil struktur silika yang masih amorf. Analisis FTIR menunjukan gugus fungsi yang terbentuk yaitu -OH, Si-O-Si dan Si-O. Analisis SEM menunjukan bahwa semakin tinggi suhu leaching yang diberikan terhadap sampel maka ukuran butir semakin merata.

Abstract

flavonoidVernonia amygdalina Del) adalah salah satu tanaman obat yang berasal dari Afrika yang menyebar sampai ke Asia, termasuk Indonesia. Vernonia amygdalina Del  dikenal dengan nama lokal tanaman Afrika. Tanaman ini secara tradisional telah dimanfaatkan sebagai obat diabetes, demam, hipertensi dan asam urat.  Tujuan penelian ini adalah menentukan kadar flavonoid total ekstrak daun, kulit batang dan kayu batang tanaman Afrika. Masing-masing sampel (daun, kulit batang dan batang Afrika) diekstraksi kemudian ditentukan kandungan flavonoid totalnya. Berdasarkan hasil penentuan kadar flavonoid dari ekstrak daun, kulit batang dan batang Afrika diketahui bahwa ekstrak batang memiliki kadar flavonoid total yang paling banyak sebesar 418,15 mg QE/g ekstrak.

Abstract

Various bioactivities on natural compounds, the antioxidant potency can provide a broad spectrum in their utilization and development into medicinal raw material. One of the plants that have potency for antioxidant activity is the Kemerakan sapenit (Bauhinia latisilqua) plant. The study aimed to isolate, characterize, and determine the antioxidant activity of a compound isolated in the ethyl acetate extract of the stem bark of B. latisilqua. This research includes extraction, fractionation, purification, and elucidation of secondary metabolite structure as well as testing its antioxidant activity. Extraction was carried out by maceration technique, fractionation, and purification using liquid vacuum chromatography and gravitation column chromatography. The elucidation of the structural compound was determined by analysis of the UV, IR, and NMR spectra. The antioxidant test was performed using the DPPH method. Based on the analysis of the spectral data, the isolated compound was catechin, a derivative of flavan-3-ol. Antioxidant test on catechin compound showed a strong antioxidant with an IC50 value of 35.01 µg /mL (IC50 for positive control, ascorbic acid, of 42.94 µg /mL).
