Abstract

The Introductory Mathematics Course is an initial course that students must master before they study advanced courses. However, many students still need higher grades in this course. This study aims to analyze the students' mathematical concepts understanding in Introductory Mathematics Course. This study is a descriptive qualitative study involving three mathematics education students at an Islamic University in Jambi. Each has high, medium, and low abilities based on the mathematical concept of understanding test results. The students were also interviewed to confirm their test answers. Data were analyzed descriptively using the method-triangulation. The results of this study indicate that, in general, the students' mathematical concepts understanding in Introductory Mathematics Course is in the medium category. A student with high ability can answer all the questions correctly, while ones with medium and low abilities still need to correct some things. The students with medium and low abilities must train more and get used to working on concept-understanding questions. Learning methods are also needed that further hone their ability to understand mathematical concepts.

Abstract

This cervice aims to determine the healthy lifestiles of Siulak Kecil Mudik Village community in order to prevent the Covid-19 Virus transmission. The method that used in this service was descriptive method. The target of this service are 10 village people that choosen with use purposive technique. According to the reflection of service programme result obtain the conclusion are: (1) Covid-19 pandemic cause the decrease of public health and income; (2) most of public in Siulak Kecil Mudik Village ignore the healthy lifestyles, and (3) the level of healthy lifestyles people is in low category. The steps which we done about the lowerness of the public healthy lifestyles are: (1) give the education abou the importance of the healty lifestyles; (2) collaborate with the village administrator about the implementation the healthy protocol;(3)inform the information about the importance of  vaccination and confirmation about hoax report about the vaccination tha spread through the public.

Abstract

Mathematical concepts are interrelated with each other so that they must be studied coherently and continuously. Therefore, the mathematical conceptual understanding ability is very important for students. The aim of this research is to analyze students’ mathematical conseptual understanding ability in  Two-Variable System of Linear Equations (SPLDV). This research methodology was qualitative with descriptive approach. The population of this research is all of VIII grade students in MTSN 1 Kerinci which VIII B group was choosen as the research sample with snowball samoling technique. The research instruments that used was mathematical conceptual understanding test and interview. According to the mathematical conceptual understanding ability tests results, most of students in VIII B grade MTsN 1 Kerinci have mathematical conceptual understanding ability in medium category. Three students with mathematical conceptual understanding ability in the high, medium and low categories were selected to be interviewed in order to identify the achievement indicators of the mathematical concepts understanding ability. The students with higher mathematical conceptual  understanding ability showed 5 indicators of mathematical conceptual  understanding ability. The students with medium mathematical conceptual  understanding ability showed 3 indicators of mathematical conceptual  understanding ability. The students with lower mathematical conceptual  understanding ability showed 2 indicators of mathematical conceptual  understanding ability.

Abstract

This study was a classroom action research that contain two cycles with pomoting the improvement of student’s mathematical communication ability. This study was applied in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 Mandailing Natal (Madina) Plus Keterampilan in the XI MIA grade year 2020/2021 during the covid-19 pandemic. The object of this study was 35 students of XI MIA 2 grade from 165 students of XI MIA grade as the research population. The subject of this study was student’s mathematical communication ability. This study used the student’s mathematical communication ability test and interview instruments that had been carried out the instruments feasibility test. Based on the analysis of the data, we found: (1) the average of student’s mathematical communication ability test increase from 77 at cycle I to 91 at cycle II; (2) the number of students who have mathematical communication ability increase from 16 (46%) students at cycle I to 27 (77%) students at cycle II. The conclusion of this study is covid-19 pandemic context can improve the student’s mathematical communication ability.

Abstract

The background in this research is the lowerness of students’ problem solving skill. This research aim to improve students' problem solving skill by using abductive-deductive strategies. This research used the quasi-experimental method with the Control Group Pretest-Posttest design. The research population was all of VIII grade students in SMPN 4 Kerinci. We use the survey technique to determine the research sampel. The sample of this research was students of VIII A grade as the control class and the students of VIII B grade as the experimental class. The research instruments used in this research is problem solving ability test. The pretest was given before the learning begun then the posttest was given after the learning process. The results of this research indicate that students in the experiment class have better problem solving skills than the control class. The conclusion of this research was the abductive-deductive strategies can improve the students’ problem solving ability.

Abstract

This study started from the lack of students’ mathematical creative thinking skills in SMPN 4 Kerinci. The Problem Centered Learning (PCL) Approach can improve the students’ creative thinking ability in theory. We interested to investigate the effect of the Problem Centered Learning (PCL) Approach in students’ creative thinking skills through this study. The purpose of this study was to determine the students’ mathematical creative thinking skills in solving triangles and quadrilaterals problems with using Problem Centered Learning (PCL) Approach. This study was quasi experiment research with Post-Test Only Control Group Design. The research sample consisted of the entire population from VII A and VII B grades at SMPN 4 Kerinci. Therefore we use the saturated sample technique where 20 students in VII A grade as experimental class then 20 students in VII B grade as control class. We use the creative thinking test, observation sheet and documentation technique to collect the data. The data were analyzed using the parametric t-test because the data distribution was normal and the sample was come from the homogeny population. The results of this study indicate that students in the experimental class have better creative thinking skills than the control class. The lack of students’ creative thinking ability in the control class was caused by most of students pay less attention to the learning process, did not master the triangle and quadrilateral material and lack ability in developing an idea in solving the given problem.

Abstract

This study aims to determine students' communication skills. The research method used is qualitative. Qualitative research method is a research that is used to examine natural objects where the researcher is the key instrument. Data was collected through observation and analysis of student answer sheets. The results of this study were that students' communication skills were still low on triangles and quadrilaterals. This can be seen in the results of student answer sheets, teachers need to improve student abilities again. Qualitative research method is a research that is used to examine natural objects where the researcher is the key instrument.

Abstract

Pemahaman konsep merupakan kemampuan penting dalam matematis, tetapi capaiannya belum maksimal. Penelitian deskriptif ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa kelas VIII MTs dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika pada bentuk aljabar. Pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik tes dan dokumentasi. Instrumen tes berupa 3 buah soal uraian kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis.  Data yang dikumpulkan dianalisis secara kualitatif dengan cara mereduksi, penyajian, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 8 orang siswa kelas VIII pada salah satu MTs di Tanah Kampung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kualifikasi kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis 25% siswa dikategorikan sangat baik dalam mengenal bentuk aljabar dan unsur-unsurnya, mengidentifikasi unsur-unsur bentuk aljabar dari operasi bentuk aljabar, dan menyelesaikan operasi bentuk aljabar pada masalah kontekstual. Selanjutnya, kategori baik dicapai oleh 37,5% siswa, kategori cukup dicapai oleh 25% siswa, dan kategori kurang dicapai oleh 12,5% siswa. Tidak ditemukan siswa dengan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis sangat kurang. Conceptual understanding is an important ability in mathematics, but the achievement is not optimal. This descriptive study aims to describe the ability to understand mathematical concepts of class VIII MTs students in solving mathematical problems in algebraic forms. Data collection using test and documentation techniques. The test instrument is in the form of 3 questions describing the ability to understand mathematical concepts. The collected data were analyzed qualitatively by reducing, presenting, and drawing conclusions. The subjects of this study were 8 class VIII students at one of the MTs in Tanah Kampung. The results showed that 25% of the student's qualifications for understanding mathematical concepts were categorized as very good at recognizing algebraic forms and their elements, identifying algebraic elements from algebraic operations, and solving algebraic operations on contextual problems. Furthermore, the good category was achieved by 37.5% of students, the moderate category was achieved by 25% of students, and the poor category was achieved by 12.5% of students. There were no students with a very poor understanding of mathematical concepts.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelaah kemampuan pemecahan matematis siswa salah satu Madrasah Aliyah Swasta di Kerinci dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika pada materi SPLTV. Jenis penelitian yang dilakukan adalah penelitian kualitiatif deskriptif Pengumpulan data kemampuan pemecahan masalah masalah matematis siswa menggunakan teknik tes dan dokumentasi. Instrumen utama peneltian ini yaitu peneliti itu sendiri, sedangkan instrument pendukung berupa tes yang digunakan yaitu soal uraian berjumlah 4 butir soal kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan wawancara. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Subjek dalam penelitain ini adalah sebanyak 19 orang siswa kelas X Madrasah Aliyah di kerinci. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kualifikasi kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis diperoleh nilai rata-rata sebesar 70,39% dengan kategori cukup. Adapun kualifikasi kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis yaitu 15,79% siswa kategori sangat baik, kemudian 21,05% kategori baik, selanjutnya 52,64%siswa mencapai kategori cukup, berikutnya 10,52% siswa kategor kurang dan tidak ada siswa yang berkategori kurang sekali. Berdasarkan indikator kemampuan pemecahan masalah diperoleh persentase sebanyak 84,21% siswa mampu memahami masalah, kemudian 78,94% siswa mampu menyusun rencana penyelesaian, selanjutnya 63,15% siswa mampu melaksanakan rencana penyelesaian, lalu 63,15% siswa mampu memeriksa kembali.

Abstract

Abstrak. Penelitian deskriptif ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa kelas VIII Madrasah Tsanawiyyah Negeri 1 Kota Sungai Penuh dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika pada materi Persamaan Linear. Pengumpulan data kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa menggunakan teknik tes dan dokumentasi. Instrumen tes yang digunakan adalah soal uraian (essay) yang berjumlah 5 butir soal kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis. Data yang dikumpulkan dianalisis secara kualitatif dengan cara mereduksi, penyajian, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 33 orang siswa kelas VIII B Madrasah Tsanawiyyah Negeri 1 Kota Sungai Penuh. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kualifikasi kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis 3,03% siswa dikategorikan sangat tinggi mampu merumuskan pokok-pokok permasalahan, mengungkap fakta yang dibutuhkan dalam menyelesaikan suatu masalah, mampu memilih argumen yang logis dan akurat, mampu mendeteksi persoalan pada sudut pandang yang berbeda, serta dapat menentukan akibat dari suatu pernyataan yang diambil sebagai keputusan. Kategori tinggi dicapai oleh 30% siswa, mampu memperkirakan jawaban dan proses solusi namun kurang lengkap, mampu mengungkap fakta dalam penyelesaian suatu masalah, dan merumuskan pokok-pokok permasalahan. Terdapat 60% siswa mencapai kategori sedang yang mampu memperkirakan jawaban dan proses solusi namun kurang benar dan kurang lengkap, tidak mampu merumuskan pokok-pokok permasalahan, dan tidak dapat mendeteksi persoalan pada sudut pandang yang berbeda. Selanjutnya siswa dengan kategori rendah dengan persentase 6,06% mampu merumuskan pokok-pokok permasalahan namun tidak dapat menjawab dan menganalisis jawaban yang diminta serta tidak dapat mendeteksi persoalan pada sudut pandang yang berbeda. Kemudian tidak ada siswa dengan kateogori kemampuan berpikir kritis sangat rendah.Kata Kunci: Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis, Masalah Matematika, Persamaan Linear.
