Abstract

Arthrospira platensis culture requires macro and micronutrients. The nutrients needed by Arthrospira platensis according to Agustina and Herman (2021) are macronutrients consisting of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), sulfur (S), iron (Fe), magnesium (Mg), silicon (Si), and calcium (Ca). Micronutrients consist of zinc (Zn), cobalt (Co), molybdenum (Mo), boron (B), and copper (Cu). Rice-washing wastewater contains macro and micronutrients needed for the growth of Arthrospira platensis. Almost all of the nutrients needed by Arthrospira platensis are found in the wastewater, except for Co. Previous studies have shown that rice-washing wastewater can be used for Arthrospira platensis culture, but the growth rate is still higher than Walne fertilizer 0.5 ml/L. Zarrouk fertilizer as a standard growth medium for Arthrospira platensis shows that this fertilizer has better growth results than Urea and NPK fertilizers. This research was conducted to determine the effect of rice-washing wastewater as a nutrient source for culture media or a combination of Zarrouk fertilizer and rice-washing wastewater so that it can be used to increase the biomass and carotenoid pigments of Arthrospira platensis. This research used a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 12 treatments and 3 replications. Arthrospira platensis quality test was carried out by testing dry biomass and carotenoid content. The ANOVA test results showed that this study's treatment had a significant effect on the carotenoid content and biomass of Arthrospira platensis. The treatment with the highest effect of biomass and carotenoids was obtained in the treatment of 1.5 ml/L of rice-washing wastewater

Abstract

Indonesia is an archipelagic country with a water area of up to 5.9 million km2, where this water area is a habitat for marine diversity. One such diversity consists of macroalgae and microalgae. Diatoms are a group of microalgae with high diversity. Diatoms are one of a group of microscopic algae that can live in various habitats and are abundant in various ecosystems. Diatoms can be used as bioindicators of aquatic environmental quality. Navicula genus is an isolate that was successfully isolated from the waters of Pari Island, Kepulauan Seribu Regency. The total protein was analyzed by the Lowry-Follin method. The total fat content was determined by the soxhletation method. This genus Navicula contains a total protein content of 30,944 mg/L and a lipid content of 3.17%.

Abstract

Microalgae is a promising and innovative biological resource. Indonesia has the potential for the development of microalgae production. One of the microalgae that have high economic value is Arthrospira platensis. In the production of microalgae, the development of suitable media and environmental conditions need to be factors that must be considered. This study aimed to analyze the effect of different nitrogen sources and nitrogen doses and their interaction on the growth of microalgae Arthrospira platensis cultured in fresh water. In addition, analyzing the water quality of Arthrospira platensis culture media. This study used an experimental method of Completely Randomized Factorial Design) with two factors. The first factor is the nitrogen source (Sodium nitrate, Potassium nitrate, and Calcium nitrate). The second factor is the dose of nitrogen source (2 g/l.2.5 g/l.3 g/l). The main parameter observed was microalgae growth, while the supporting parameter was the water quality which affected the growth of Arthrospira platensis. The highest density results were found in the provision of a nitrogen source of Ca(NO3)2 3 g/l, which was 370,000 cells/ml. The results of the ANOVA test showed that the type of nitrogen source, the dose, and the interaction between the two affected the specific growth rate of Arthrospira platensis. The environmental conditions during culture ranged from 20.2°C-26.2°C, pH values 8.95 – 10.18, and dissolved oxygen 9.17 – 9.77 mg/L.

Abstract

Kappaphycus alvarezii seaweed is an important fishery commodity in Indonesia because it contains carrageenan, an important main ingredient in various industries. Research on the genetic characterization of seaweed in Indonesia is important as a source of information and genetic data needed to develop aquaculture practices such as breeding programs. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the nucleotide composition of the rbcL gene sequence in Kappaphycus alvarezii as part of a genetic characterization study of Kappaphycus alvarezii seaweed in East Java. This study used five samples taken in Banyuwangi, Situbondo and Sumenep and compared them with the Kappaphycus alvarezii seaweed database at GenBank. The method used was the PCR method, and the primer pairs used were F-577 5'-GTATATGAAGGTCTAAAAGGTGG-3' and R-753 5'-GCTCTTTCATACATATCTTCC-3'. Based on research, primers F-577 and R-753 succeeded in amplifying the rbcL gene in Kappaphycus alvarezii samples in a partial manner with a length of 295 – 299 bp. The DNA sequence results of the sample have a similarity of 100% to the database in GeneBank. Nucleotide composition analysis shows the existence of genetic variations in the DNA sequences studied.

Abstract

In Indonesia, Caulerpa sp. is often utilized as an edible food ingredient by eating it raw as a vegetable salad or as a vegetable. Different light intensities greatly affect the growth of sea grapes (Caulerpa lentillifera). However, this type of seaweed is still few who can cultivate it. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to analyze the growth performance of Caulerpa lentillifera seedlings at the cultivation stage in the laboratory with different light intensities. The research was conducted using the RAL method with 5 treatments and 4 replications. Light intensity (1,000, 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000 Lux) was applied during cultivation. The specific growth rate ranged from 0.0065%/day - 0.0061%/day. The number of ramuli of Caulerpa lentillifera ranged from 651 grains - 723 grains. The number of tallus Caulerpa lentillifera during 45 days of maintenance with various treatments ranged from 28 branches - 32 branches. The conclusion of this research is that light intensity significantly affects the growth of Caulerpa lentillifera.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of ozonation treatment on the immune activity of vannamei shrimp, compared to non-ozonization treatment. Parameters measured include Total Haemocyte Count (THC), Differential Haemocyte Count (DHC), and phagocytic activity. The results show that ozonation treatment produces higher THC values, namely an average of 75% more than non-ozonation. The DHC value in the ozonation treatment showed an increase in granular cells by 40% compared to the non- ozonation treatment. In contrast, hyaline cells decreased due to a more active immune response against pathogens. Phagocytic activity in the ozonation treatment reached 15%, higher than non-ozonization which only reached 10.33%. These data indicate that ozonation plays an important role in improving shrimp's immune response by reducing the water's pathogen content and minimizing stress. In conclusion, ozonation was proven effective in increasing the immunity of vannamei shrimp by supporting key immunological parameters.
