Abstract

Gross motor skills are essential for supporting the physical development of primary school-aged children; however, the increasing use of digital devices reduces their engagement in traditional physical activities. The purpose of this study is to test the effectiveness of the traditional Tapa Gala game in improving the gross motor skills of fourth-grade students at SDN 2 Tawali Wera. This study uses a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pre-test and post-test design, involving 12 students aged 9–10 years. The Tapa Gala Gross Motor Test (TMK-TG) includes four subtests: Zig-Zag Running, Standing Long Jump, Chasing Running, and Imitating Movement. The data were analyzed using paired t-tests to determine significant differences between the pre-test and post-test scores. The results showed a significant improvement in gross motor skills following the intervention, with an average pre-test score of 40.25 and a post-test score of 50.42 (p = 0.000; p < 0.05). Based on the classification, 25% of students were in the “Very Good” category, 67% in the “Good” category, and 8% in the “Sufficient” category. These results indicate that the traditional Tapa Gala game can be effectively implemented as a contextualized, enjoyable, and culturally rich physical learning method to support children’s gross motor development. This study provides further evidence that games based on local wisdom can serve as an alternative learning strategy to support students’ physical competence while preserving traditional games within modern education. Abstract

Background. The low and inconsistent shooting accuracy of petanque athletes in Bima Regency indicates that the application of biomechanical principles in arm movement techniques has not been optimal. This condition underscores the importance of conducting research to identify biomechanical factors as a scientific basis for improving athlete performance. Objective. This study aims to analyze the biomechanical components of arm movements which include backswing angle, release angle, swing speed, release speed, and joint coordination (shoulders, elbows and wrists) on shooting accuracy in petanque games. Method. This research uses quantitative methodsnon-experimental. The research subjects were 10 active petanque athletes, each of whom performed10 shooting attemptsdistance 7 meters. The research instrument used video recordings combined with the Kinovea application version 0.8.15. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality tests, Pearson correlation tests, and simple linear regression using SPSS 26. Results. The results of the statistical analysis show that the most effective backswing angle is at 70-88, realization angle 102-110, swing speed 1.40-1.60 m/s and realize speed 7.29-9.30 m/s. The results of the normality test showed that the data were normally distributed with a Sig >0.05. The Pearson correlation test showed that all variables were related to shooting accuracy.with the highest correlation value in joint coordination (r = 0.828; p = 0.003). Simple linear regression analysis shows that all variables have an effect on shooting accuracy where joint coordination is the highest with a value (r² = 0.686). The novelty of the research results shows that joint coordination is the most influential factor compared to other variables, so that these findings can be the basis for developing a biomechanics-based shooting training model and more effective and precise motor control. Conclusion. The conclusion of this study shows that the biomechanical variables of arm movement have a positive and significant effect on petanque shooting accuracy, with joint coordination being the primary factor in improving shooting precision. The findings provide a scientific contribution by identifying dominant biomechanical factors, as well as a practical contribution as a basis for developing more effective and targeted biomechanics-based training programs.

Abstract

Strengthening soft skills is an essential objective of physical education in higher education, as prospective physical education teachers are required to demonstrate leadership, collaboration, and professional responsibility. The Sport Education Model (SEM) is a pedagogical approach that provides authentic learning experiences by engaging students as participants, coaches, referees, and team managers. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of SEM and its association with the development of soft skills among students in the Physical Education, Health, and Recreation (PJKR) program, given the limited studies examining SEM in Indonesian higher education. A qualitative descriptive method was employed with 60 students from STKIP Taman Siswa Bima as participants. Data were obtained through observations, interviews, and student reflection journals collected over one semester. The patterns of change in students' soft skills during the observation period were described by converting observation and reflection indicators into percentage distributions. The results showed that leadership (68%), teamwork (50%), communication (54%), responsibility (48%), and problem-solving (52%) each had a percentage pattern. These percentages represent the distribution of observed behaviors across the five soft-skill dimensions recorded during the learning period and indicate observable developments in leadership, teamwork, communication, responsibility, and problem-solving within the higher education context examined. The findings reveal patterns of collaborative interaction, role engagement, and interpersonal communication during the learning process, reflecting the presence of these five soft-skill dimensions. SEM is a contextually appropriate instructional approach for supporting these soft skills dimensions among physical education students in comparable higher education settings, based on the observed patterns.
