Abstract

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever is a serious problem in Central Java with an Incidence Rate (IR) of 10.2/100,000 population in 2018. Efforts to reduce the number of dengue fever cannot be separated from efforts to control the Aedes aegypti vector. Alternative vector control that is safer and more environmentally friendly can be done by utilizing compounds derived from plants that have biologically active properties. The plant that has the potential to be developed as a natural insecticide is galangal (Alpinia galanga). The amis of this study was to determine the effectiveness of a water filter added with biolarvicides from galangal rhizome extract. The research method used was a quasi-experimental method with 4 different concentrations of galangal extract (0.1%; 0.2%; 0.3% and 0.4%) and used a negative control without the addition of galangal extract. The results showed that in water filter treatment with galangal rhizome extract, there was death in Ae. aegypti mosquito larvae, while in negative control there was no larval death. The results showed that mortality of Ae. aegypti mostly occurred at a concentration of 0.4% as many as 25 larvae. Water filter with galangal rhizome extract biolarvicide has the potential to kill Ae. aegypti larvae.

Abstract

One of the impacts following the inauguration of Indonesian Batik as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2009 was that many batik businesses emerged in various regions. This increase can increase the amount of production and at the same time have an impact on the environment. The presence of government regulations regarding the green industry for the batik industry has allegedly not been a concern for batik entrepreneurs, especially in Pekalongan City. Most of the batik industry still implements production processes without paying attention to SMK3 and environmental aspects, so the aim of this research is to measure the level of knowledge of the Pekalongan City batik industry regarding the existence of government regulations relating to green industry standards for the batik industry. The method used is a survey method using a quantitative approach. Furthermore, the impact of this research can be a reference for the government to provide stimulus and treatment for batik SMEs in increasing knowledge about Permenperin No. 10 of 2023 for the batik industry towards a more focused green industry through green industry certification for batik SMEs.

Abstract

Diarrhea cases in Indonesia were 270/1000 population or 7,265,013 cases occurred at all ages with a mortality rate (CFR) of 4.76% in 2018. Treatment of diarrhea can be done by giving antibiotics such as Cefotaxime, Ciprofloxacin, Gentamicin, Ampicillin, Metronidazole, Co-trioxide, Ceftriaxone, and Erythromycin. However, inappropriate use of antibiotics can lead to bacterial resistance. Turmeric is a medicinal plant that contains curcumin and essential oils that can inhibit the growth of bacteria. There are 24 essential oils in turmeric, which are dominated by turmerone (35.16%), ar-turmerone (25.20%), curlon (18.21%), and ar-curcumin (3.74%). Turmeric water obtained through juice has the potential as an antibacterial agent. This study is a pure experiment using a post-test-only control group design by examining the effect of turmeric juice (Curcuma domestica Val.) as an antibacterial of Escherichia coli bacteria. The results showed the ability of turmeric juice to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria. The concentration of turmeric juice was able to produce an inhibition zone at concentrations ranging from 40% at 14 mm and the highest concentration at 100% at 24 mm. The results of the One Way Anova test showed that the results were not significant because the p-value>0.05 (p-value=0.351). This means that the average diameter of the inhibition at the concentration of turmeric juice 40%, 55%, 70%, 85%, and 100% did not have a significant difference. Turmeric juice has effectiveness in inhibiting the growth of E.coli bacteria.

Abstract

Batik wastewater poses an environmental threat due to hazardous heavy metals like lead, cadmium, and chromium (Cr). This study investigated the effectiveness of SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast), a microbial consortium from kombucha production, in reducing Cr levels in batik wastewater. SCOBY is a promising biosorbent for heavy metals. The research aimed to assess SCOBY's ability to decrease Cr contamination in different types of batik wastewater (hand-drawn, stamped, and printed) over varying incubation times. Using a quasi-experimental approach, wastewater samples were collected from small and medium industries in Pekalongan City. Results showed that SCOBY effectively reduced Cr levels across all batik wastewater types and incubation periods. The most significant reduction occurred at 3 hours of incubation. Specifically, Cr levels decreased by 53% in hand-drawn batik wastewater, 44% in stamped batik wastewater, and an impressive 71% in printed batik wastewater. These findings suggest that SCOBY treatment is a viable and effective alternative for managing batik wastewater.
