Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease with increasing prevalence, with 1,316 cases recorded at the Cicalengka DTP Health Center out of 59,205 in Bandung Regency. Initial studies revealed patients’ limited understanding of the 3J diet (Quantity, Type, Schedule), indicating the need for engaging and culturally appropriate educational media, such as using the Sundanese language. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of Sundanese-language educational videos on the 3J diet. Method: This study applied the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) and was conducted at the Cicalengka DTP Health Center from March to June 2025. The population comprised 1,316 diabetes patients, with 42 selected through incidental sampling. Effectiveness was tested using a one-group pretest–posttest design without control. Instruments included interview guides and questionnaires with qualitative and quantitative approaches. Results: The analysis confirmed the need for Sundanese-language video education. The design phase produced materials and storyboards aligned with patient needs. Development yielded highly feasible media with validation scores of 98.8% (content), 80% (language), 100% (media), and 100% (small group). Implementation involved a pretest, media exposure, and posttest with 42 participants. Evaluation showed feedback was actionable. The Wilcoxon test revealed a significant improvement in knowledge of the 3J diet (p = 0.001 < 0.05). Conclusion: The Sundanese-language 3J diet educational video was feasible, culturally relevant, and effective in enhancing diabetes patients’ knowledge at the Cicalengka DTP Health Center.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is one of the diseases with a high prevalence in the community and has the potential to cause serious complications if not properly managed. In 2023, West Java recorded 645,390 cases, with Bandung Regency as the second-highest contributor (59,205 cases). In Margahayu Selatan Public Health Center’s area, there were 1,312 cases. A preliminary study showed most Prolanis participants had never received education on the 5 Pillars of Diabetes Mellitus. Therefore, appropriate educational media such as interactive posters are needed for health promotion. Objective: To develop interactive poster media on the 5 Pillars of Diabetes Mellitus for Prolanis participants as an educational tool for diabetes management. Methods: This study used the 4D development model (Define, Design, Development, Disseminate) and was conducted at Margahayu Selatan Public Health Center in April–May 2025. The population included all Prolanis participants, with a total sample of 53 people selected using total sampling. Media effectiveness was tested using a one-group pretest-posttest design without a control group. Results: The Define stage revealed the need for printed and interactive educational media. The Design stage produced an interactive poster containing 5 Pillars material. At the Development stage, the media was rated highly feasible: 92.5% by material experts, 100% by media experts, and 96.9% by participants. Knowledge scores increased from 77.42 to 96.96, with a p-value of 0.000 (Wilcoxon test). Conclusion: Interactive poster media is effective in increasing knowledge of Prolanis participants regarding diabetes management.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia ranked fifth globally with 19.5 million people living with diabetes in 2021. In Cimahi City, West Java, diabetes cases increased by 10,016 in 2023. A preliminary study in RW 12, Utama Subdistrict, South Cimahi, indicated low awareness among patients regarding the health risks associated with sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs). Objective: This study aimed to develop a calendar-based poster (posker) as an educational tool to raise awareness about the dangers of SSBs and support diabetes mellitus control. Methods: A research and development design using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) was employed during March to April 2025. The population included all diabetes patients in RW 12, with a total of 30 participants selected through total sampling. A one-group pretest-posttest design without a control group was used to assess media effectiveness. Result: The Define phase revealed the need for printed educational materials with calendar elements. A posker was developed and validated by experts: material (95%), media (100%), and target users (91%). Post-intervention knowledge scores significantly increased from 54.37 to 88.30 (p = 0.000, Wilcoxon test). In the Dissemination phase, the posker was shared via social media and received positive feedback. Conclusions: The posker is an effective medium for increasing knowledge about the health risks of SSBs and may serve as a practical educational intervention in diabetes management.
