Abstract

Social media has been widely used by many people nowadays. Chatting, playing games, calling friends and relatives, and even making an appointment for a date or reunion with some old friends can now easily be organized in social media. With those many uses, each social media platform has some community standards to regulate the interaction to avoid any violation or offence that may threaten the harmonious atmosphere in the interaction. Despite that, some harsh words, rude comments, and negative attitudes can still be easily found in social media interactions. This research investigates those rapport-threatening behaviors by analyzing how they are expressed and whether they are threatening the social media users’ rapport or not. The research finds that there are several rapport-threatening behaviors in the interactions on Instagram which are sarcasm, insult, criticism, profanity, challenge, and even emoji use.

Abstract

Abstract

Mastering grammatical structures remains challenging for English as a Foreign Language learners in contexts with limited authentic language exposure. This quasi-experimental study examined whether mobile application integration could enhance Simple Present Tense acquisition among 34 seventh-grade students at a public junior high school in Majene, Indonesia. Participants were assigned to either an experimental group (n=17) receiving instruction through the English Grammar: Learn and Test application or a control group (n=17) following conventional textbook-based methods. Pre-test and post-test assessments measured grammar mastery across parts of speech, inflection, and syntax dimensions. Results revealed substantial improvement in the experimental group, with mean scores increasing from 20.94 to 72.12 (p < .001, Cohen's d = 1.95), while the control group showed modest gains (29.18 to 50.94). Notably, 82.4% of experimental participants achieved mastery level compared to 11.8% in the control group. Student perceptions measured through a 15-item questionnaire indicated strong acceptance (M = 4.31), with particularly high ratings for perceived usefulness. Despite sample size limitations, findings suggest that strategically integrated mobile applications can significantly enhance grammar learning when traditional methods prove insufficient, offering practical solutions for resource-constrained educational settings.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and analyze the implementation of environmental education grounded in the concept of ecotauhid (Islamic ecotheology) among students at the Darul Hijrah Putera Martapura Islamic Boarding School. This research focuses on identifying how ecotahyd values are integrated into educational activities and how this approach contributes to shaping students' ecological awareness and character. The novelty of this research lies in its emphasis on ecota-tawheed as a holistic framework that unites beliefs, knowledge, and environmental responsibility within the pesantren context. This qualitative study uses observation, interviews, and documentation to examine forms of environmental education, which include: (1) Curricular, through Aqidah Akhlak, Fiqh, and Islamic Religious Education subjects that contain values based on ecotauhid; (2) Co-curricular, through enrichment activities such as fisheries, agriculture, and reforestation; and (3) Extracurricular, through the Adiwiyata program that promotes environmental protection and appreciation. The development of the Eco Pesantren and Agrosilvofishery programs shows the integration of religious practices with environmental sustainability. This study concludes that ecotauhid-based education increases students' ecological awareness while fostering a religious, independent, and competitive generation.

Abstract

This study investigates how the Initiation Response Feedback (IRF) pattern, integrated with an AI-based feedback tool, supports public speaking instruction in an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context. It examines (1) how IRF patterns emerge in classroom interaction, (2) how IRF contributes to feedback effectiveness and students’ public speaking performance, and (3) how an AI tool, AI Feedback Presentation, a Gradio application deployed on Hugging Face Spaces is positioned within the feedback ecosystem and students’ academic literacy. The research adopts a qualitative classroom discourse analysis design. Participants were 19 third semester students enrolled in a Public Speaking course in an English Literature program at a private university in Makassar, Indonesia. Data were collected through participant observation, audio video recordings, verbatim transcripts of four key meetings, and pilot logs from the AI Feedback Presentation application. The four meetings focused on polite (dis)agreement, formal presentation structure and peer feedback, discussions on empathy, plastic use, AI and academic honesty, and modeling of expert speeches. Data were analyzed by segmenting IRF sequences, coding feedback types, and developing themes related to public speaking skills and AI use. Findings show that IRF is consistently employed to scaffold students’ spoken production from short responses to structured, polite opinions and formal presentations. The combination of IRF with recasts, metalinguistic explanations, elaborative feedback, and affective support enhances students’ awareness of politeness, speech organization, and delivery (eye contact, intonation, body language). The AI Feedback Presentation tool provides automatic transcription and simple performance metrics, which function as triggers for reflection rather than grading mechanisms. Students perceive AI as a useful assistant for grammar and idea generation, while also recognizing risks to academic honesty. The study proposes an IRF AI framework in which human and AI feedback are complementary in public speaking instruction.

Abstract

This qualitative case study explored students' experiences and responses towards the implementation of e-learning in English literacy classes at Universitas Sulawesi Barat, Indonesia. The study employed a purposive sampling method, involving 145 students enrolled in reading and writing courses during the 2022/2023 academic year. Data were collected through reflection essays addressing 30 questions, validated by subject matter experts, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed several key themes, including challenges faced by students such as internet connectivity issues and initial difficulties navigating e-learning systems. While e-learning facilitated ubiquitous learning, concerns were raised regarding engagement levels, social connectedness, and comprehension compared to face-to-face interactions. Students valued the flexibility and accessibility of e-learning resources but emphasized the need for relevant, reliable, and interactive materials. The study underscored the valuable role of technology in enhancing e-learning quality through expansive content access, interactive features, and flexibility. However, digital literacy gaps and suitability concerns for certain skills were identified as limitations. Overall, a balanced blended learning approach integrating e-learning with traditional face-to-face elements was recommended to optimize learning outcomes in English literacy education. The findings inform pedagogical practices, institutional strategies, and future research on leveraging educational technology to enhance English literacy instruction effectively.
